Ricky P? :dunno:

He's capable of putting a good bit of whip and curl on his crosses, if he fizzed the shot in low there could at least be some chance of rebounds off the keeper to follow up, particularly with spin on the ball. Although it's probably the type of spin that results in the ball being put over the bar from 3 yards out too!

It's important to have good delivery generally... but I think direct free kick goals are over valued.

If someone score 4 in a season that would be very good. How many would actually be consequential?

General delivery is much more important.

For the rest of the season we should just let Jannik try some thunder bastards. One may go in and failing that it could be as comical as it was watching Huth take them.

It makes me laugh when you consider all of the marginal gains bollocks and small detail sweating that goes on in sport and yet you would never believe that we even practice set pieces

Set piece are by and large high risk low reward for most of the time.

Yes, it's beautiful when a free kick or we score from a corner but it's often in the low percentile that it happens.

I believe Mou commented this by comparing the fact that in the European leagues nobody in the crowd cheers for a corner or screams when we get a throw in but in England we do.

I'd aim to smash it at the player lying down's face. The wall jumps and smash, right in the face.

Imagine if it was Richarlison.

Seriously though. if you were to hit it at the wall about a foot high imagine all those deflections off the top of the player lying down or the feet of the jumping wall.

I'm sure it would be better than curling one over the bar.

I'm sure Vesty stepped up Huth-style a couple of times earlier in the season. Seem to recall us being 3 or 4-0 up and Big Jan stepped up to attempt a thunderbstard.

If you don't have a specialist, having someone who can fizz one through the wall would be the next best idea.

Most corners come to nothing tbf, I’d rather try something different than blindly put the ball in all the time

One thing that baffles me in football is how more teams & clubs don't just blatantly copy each other.

Like Brentford have been innovating from set pieces, particularly corners, for a few years now and have been excellent at them.

They've been doing it for so long you don't even need to steal their set piece coach, you can just watch hours of their footage.

Yet every club is still just punting a crap floated or whipped delivery randomly somewhere near the six yard box and hoping someone gets near it.

We must have been one of the worst sides in the country at set pieces for half a decade or more now and I can't get my head around the idea that you just don't do anything to address that.

Even this year I think I can think of just one decent corner and it was JJ at the near post?

We've scored 8 set pieces according to Whoscored - I can barely remember them. One at Blackburn away?

Blackburn away, Swansea away, Sunderland at home, Cardiff at home are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

I really wouldn't fancy being in that wall if Vesty steps up to take one.

our best taker is verstergarde, but i think kdh and stephy always demand them. I get the feeling that like our pens, we don’t have a designated person.

if they had 10 each I’m certain vesty would score the most.

All i know, is that I never want to see JJ near one again.

I'm glad someone has brought this up. No more do I get excited when we win a free kick just outside the box 😢 I feel like this is the first time in years we've been without a free kick specialist but I'm now struggling to remember who took them before maddison 🤷‍♀️ my memory is shocking

Ghezzal was on them for pre-season one year lol

Really noticeable today that we present hardly any threat from those just outside the box free kicks.

I'm not going to criticise KDH (see the KDH thread :P) as he's on the park mostly for other stuff, but we maybe need to let someone else have a go.

Let Vestergaard have a go, he can't do any worse.

We need someone who can deliver consistently from corner and freekicks.

I think they are far more important then someone who can score from freekicks.
