His issue is lack of concentration

he allows players to run off him and he gets drawn into pressing in the wrong places and being played around

Both these traits are a disaster in the PL

is it possible for a player to change what seem to be such basic instincts ?

with the ball at his feet he is most likely one of our best midfielders driving forwards.

Apologise for what?  Even if he became the player we hoped he would (and I'm not holding my breath), if you had said that he was crap up until now, that would have been perfectly justified, because he has been.  If anything, he should be apologising for the previous four years.

I think I need a goal from him and a full Akinbiyi shirt-rip before I start to warm to him.

He's scored 1 goal in over 200 senior games.  If he does score for us it'll be more Incredible Hulk than Ade!

That might be an argument for playing him further forward, well away from more defensive areas?

I've really liked him the last 2 games and he deserves a lot of credit.

That said, he strikes me as a player that would earn themselves a start and immediately resort back to being lazy.

You don't play like he has the last two games out of fluke, there's clearly a good player in there...

Controversial but if he could perform like he has done these last 2 games,  I'd pick him over Ndidi.

Coops is proving to be the only coach/manager to get a tune out of him.

Occurred to me but with facundo and BEK we shouldn’t be short in that area.   We’ve played wilf further forwards and maybe some games Bouba can step into that role

If Soumare truly wanted to be here, he should've stayed here last season. Enzo played 2 CAMs and it would've been ideal for Soumare to try to cement himself in the team at a lower level. That would've benefited both him and us more then his loan.

The most infuriating type of player. He genuinely has the ability to be the best midfielder on the pitch but it always depends on if he fancies it or not. You don’t see players of his size with his fleet of foot often, he combines Ndidi physicality with excellent technique and weight of pass. Up to him whether he really pushes on and becomes something.

He looked good against a team that were down to 10 men and he didn't have to get back. So playing him further forward might help in that capacity.

In an old interview with Rodgers, he mentioned that Soumare started his career as a 10 at youth level.

For me, I don't think he will ever be the answer, though I will admit that he has had decent cameo performances in the last two games.

Everyone’s criticising his defensive play, did you see his involvement for the goal?  Raced back as last man and won the ball back, then sprinted forward with it, beat his man and knocked him flying, slid it inside to Ayew who scores after 1-2 with Vardy. That’s two games now where he’s looked good.

Will give credit where due. Brilliant bit of play for the goal and everything you want to see from him. My fear, however, is that this will play him back into favour and this has been very much the exception.

An excellent moment for the goal. A key contribution and showed signs that he can produce moments of real quality.

But, it's consistency that's key. If he can keep making real contributions when he gets the chance then he'll force his way in and then who knows?

But that's still a long way off. One swallow doesn't make a summer. That's where we're at with Soumare, I think.

But he should be absolutely buzzing with that moment. If he can use it as motivation to kick on then it would be one hell of a comeback.

We definitely have room for a player who can do what he did but on a regular basis.

This is spot on. Some of the ‘marking’ and ‘pressing’ from him when we got relegated were genuinely laughable

It's not even application or concentration, it's about his tactical awareness. People saying he had a good game on Weds but look at how open the midfield was. Skipp wasn't great but at least he tried to offer some discipline, Soumare was absolutely nowhere most of the time. He just doesn't know where he should be.

Then couple the above with not knowing what role he actually suits. We can sit here and reel off all the different roles in DM, CM and AM and he doesn't work well in any of them.

Great contribution today (though lucky for him Ayew's touch was brilliant because it wasn't a good pass but forgiven after that effort), but I just don't see how he ever unlocks it consistently.

I just pray he doesn't end up contracting the dreaded 'Demarai Gray Syndrome', in which he plays a blinder from the bench, gets a starting place and then has 9 stinkers which actively weaken the team before he's dropped again... until the next impressive cameo 4 months later.

Scientists remain baffled by this phenomenon and have sent teams as far afield as Saudi Arabia to try and get a definite answer as to why it happens.

Got all of the physical attributes to be a great player. But like you say he just switches off….

Gray isn't a bad comparison in that sense. That's exactly what I fear - he plays himself back into favour and then just serves up what he has done in 90% of games for us. He is infuriating because he does do the odd thing which he looks really good, but it's very infrequent. That was genuinely an excellent bit of play for our goal though.

He needs to be played in between the defensive and attacking midfielder. This is where he'd previously excelled in France but Rodgers knew better and played him anywhere but!

Beast mode Soumare is breath taking - unfortunately it doesn’t happen very often. If that was a sign of things to come you’d have to find a place for him as he has a unique running ability which effortlessly opens up space

Apparently he massively struggled with his confidence after his move to the UK and found it hard adapting to us as a country, plus being away from France and his close knit family. Not sure his English was evident as a language either which didn't help.

Took his time but he's appearing to have come out of his shell.

Few nights out with Vards and he's smashing players outta the ground now

Practically one of us now

Has he upped his game because he wants a move in January? Think Matt Piper mentioned this mid-week. Or is it Cooper? Doesn't look the most confident individual. Perhaps he's helping with that side of things. Might help if our fans showed a bit more respect.

Dare I say it I've always thought there was a player in there.

Even in the first game against Man City(community shield) you could see it.

Confidence is massive in any walk of life. I still think he could come good here and in the Prem

Respect is earned when they play for us yes I’ve thought a couple of years ago when he joined again seeing the obligatory YouTube video on he’s talents thinking he’ll be good for us, but yes his confidence is low don’t know why but he doesn’t help himself his displays when he comes on of late have been embarrassing he hardly moves he dives in at tackles giving the opposition at times some positions they could have scored from his game play has been awful.

But FairPlay to the lad and I will hold my hands up he came on yesterday and played better than I’ve seen him in a long time he made the equaliser for us and if he continues to do so we could have a decent player in him it could be like a new signing, and yes I do agree with his physicality he could do well in the EPL maybe this display has upped his confidence and we can see a totally different player in Bouba Soumare from now on ?

I thought about this yesterday. If memory serves right, at Lille he played alongside Andre who played as that holder/metronome type player and Soumare had the license to drive with the ball. Rodgers tried to change his game with us as soon as we signed him and had him as a holder, sitting in a 2. It didn’t suit his game at all

Perhaps Cooper has just reverted Soumare to the style of game he used to play at Lille?

I'm probably clutching, and I don’t trust Soumare starting games. He just doesn’t have the concentration, but chasing a game, running from deep and getting us up the pitch. Let’s be fair, he’s a better option than Hamza

He’s worth a punt…. That ability to carry the ball through the lines and lay it off is such a huge weapon if we can get that out of him…
