Vestergaard is a poor decision and he will be taken apart most weeks.

32 in August too. We've probably gave him a 3 year deal.

I'd be happy to keep vestergaard but only if we have 2 new CB's next to him who are strong, quick and intelligent.

If Faes is also in the backline then we are in for an even more uphill battle

We should sell  Faes and Justin to help fund the CB areas.

Ideally a 1 year deal, but he won’t take that so I’d have thought it’ll be 2.

If we weren’t so restricted financially I’d have happily thanked him and parted ways. But as it is, keeping him makes sense.

We've realistically got to be prudent and, behind the scenes, have one eye on another Championship season in 2025/26 (as much as people won't want to hear that). We know Vestergaard is more than good enough in that respect.

We're not going to ask Vesty to play in a high back line. His passing range is a massive attacking asset.

Didn't stop him doing it vs Premier League in the cup games this season. He will deploy it and we will require something safe and comforting to hold on to.

Need pace adding ASAP to that back line.

Perfectly fine with Vesty and Vards getting offered new contracts. It will be interesting to see where this leaves Coady as he will still have around £5m left on his fee from a FFP perspective and can’t see any clubs offering that amount for him.

What worries me the most is Rudkin being left to negotiate these contracts, agents will know he can be drained for £££ and if Enzo has specifically requested for these players I won’t be surprised to see Rudkin offer good money to keep Enzo sweet.

I wouldn't offer Vestergaard a new contract but I can see why Enzo has.

I was hoping Enzo would be ruthless this Summer, but not many Managers are and I can see Enzo's own logic in renewing his contract.

Just hope that he will be our 4th choice and back-up, with x2 starting CBs coming in.

Ok with Vestergaard staying. Hopefully a one year deal and we are really lacking at CB.

one year deal.....about a 10% chance of that happening and that's being kind

I'm hesitant to judge anyone based on what they did under Rodgers. I'd rather judge them based on what they have done under our current manager, and Vesty has done OK.

We need more CBs and Vesty resigns for free and will not play every game he'll, hopefully be used where it's appropriate.

I really don’t see the issue with resigning Vesty, he was integral to how we play and has just come off the back of a cracking season. Hopefully it will be 2 years on reduced terms but heavily incentivised. Yes there will be times when he will struggle as I have no doubt most of our current bunch will do next season, however I am also not going to declare he will be a complete and utter disaster either.

I have no doubt we will add more pace in our backline to compliment him, as Maresca has already said that is what we need.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we sold Coady, Kristiansen and  Souttar and replaced with 2/3 much quicker defenders that suit our system and style

But he’s played in the prem before and was awful? You can’t just suddenly get given pace to deal with the faster attackers and wingers in the prem.

its like we are signing a suicide note.

Can see us going 3 at the back with Jannik in the middle

Rodgers never made it work with Jannik, nor tried in earnest.  So :fc:

If we give Vestergaard a new contract we clearly have not learnt anything.

No you are right we should just let him go and then spread our already likely limited budget even further on getting another replacement.

He deserves it after last season under a manager who has tactics suitable for his style and sloth.

Ugh…this style with Vesty at CB will have dire results in the PL.

I only agree with this if he’s in CB4 wages.

Did it this season, with this manager?

Rodgers scars are deep.

If it's a 3yr deal, it shows we haven't learnt from past mistakes....again!!!

1 year would be acceptable

If true, I would image that Vesty and Vardy will be on reduced wages from they were last in the PL. We shouldn’t pay more then £55k pw🫤

I will do it for £54k pw

Maybe let him go and start playing Nelson

A no brainer giving him a new contract when you have limited funds available. With some pace around him, he certainly can do a job in Enzo’s system in the Premier League.
We aren’t going to find a better free transfer than him that can walk straight into our style of play.
