but bringing people into play involves releasing the ball and not playing for the free kick every time, and that is something Ayew does far too often - dribble it a bit, look for contact and go down for the free kick. Meaning he really doesn't bring people into play as much as he should

That's fair. I just don't think he gets enough credit for the good parts of his game. His technical ability is brilliant, especially for this level. He's never going to be the answer to a goalscoring number 9 but it's unfair to pin that on him. He shouldn't be playing anything like the next 25 games as a 9 either and I hope we don't do that.

4 goals from 1.4 xG -  he's running very hot at the moment, good player but I think some need to temper their expectations a bit.

Guess the penalty now made it 4 from 2.4 xG.

6 goals in 844 minutes of football is a decent return, rough 1 in every 1.5 games.

James and Bobby are carrying us on the goal front.

This is the standard BdcR when you take out his  goals

98% passenger and the 2% involved he gets robbed in midfield.

Atrocious.

Poor today.

But without his goals where would we be.

Would rather a player who didn't score but is able to do their midfield duties, like passing and holding onto the ball which would enable our other players to play better.

This team needs consistent performances, not one off goals.

Bit harsh when he has 4 in 6 games before today.

Who scoring the goals other than him or James at the moment.

But his has been poor in this game.

No one's denying that he knows where the goal is but otherwise he is a passenger and is a burden on the rest of the team.

We need to replace him with a natural midfielder like Page or Braybrooke or even someone like Logan Briggs who can handle the ball better under pressure.

Yes you dont get as many goals but it would mean our defence is threatened by the opposition a lot less.

Should have been rotated for today's game. Page in or Ramsey had he not been injured.

Somehow it's even more satisfying when you think someone's a complete and utter pudding and they come good.

He's sprinkled in star dust in this league.

2.5 weeks is a long time in football

Scoring a few screamers was not representative of his game at all. Just a purple patch and that performance today was more like normal service - Page showed far more in his cameo.

One successful pass in the oppos half in 70 mins. Take a bow Bobby. Thats some career defining work this afternoon 💪. Absolute top draw shite!

Bobby had a poor game but Sheff Utd had 70% possession in the 1st half. Our biggest problem was Wilder, a guy we rejected, schooled Marti by putting out a more organised, fitter and motivated team than us. Every one of our players was 2nd best today.
