I maintain this is the worst premier league there’s ever been.

It’s just full of ordinary teams and uninspiring players. Liverpool are the only team with any outstanding quality, and they probably aren’t a patch on the Klopp team that won the league.

Technically, players are probably on the whole better, but the game as a whole is a shadow of the game we saw in the 90’s and 00’s… that was the golden generation of football for me, and it’s probably been declining since Spain and Barcelona ruled the roost……

it’s just an unimaginative, uninspiring crap. Ronaldo, Messi, KDB, Xabi, Iniesta et al, are the last of a golden generation for me. Perhaps the next one is round the corner, but at the moment footballs in its worst state it has been for a long time, certainly in my lifetime.

and yet we could easily see all three euro trophies won by PL teams or at least have PL clubs in all the finals

we are top of the co efficient league  giving five CL places

last season we missed out on that.

is the league terrible or are more of the non rich six actually competing with them ??

I think it just reflects the state of modern football. The EPL is the best of a bad bunch. There’s nothing I’ve seen both here or over seas that has made me feel like there’s any stand out quality in general. It’s a generation of ordinary players that have followed the last two representatives of a golden generation in Messi and Ronaldo…….. just feels like the game has stagnated and is waiting for a new generation of superstars to come forward, but will it? Considering every team seems to want to follow Peps vision.

The quality and standard of the entire league is undoubtedly at its highest.

Entertainment wise though it's dipped massively. The obsession with maintaining possession and prioritising not conceding over scoring, by most teams has led the football at the top becoming incredibly stale.

Playing out from the back has meant the fast paced football that the PL used to be known for has been much reduced too. It used to be back to front along the ground really quickly and now it's every team trying to play tika taka shite. I blame Pep.

I just watched the PL goal of the month competition on MotD. It's a disgrace... no Leicester goal included. Anti Leicester media bias?

Either im not seeing the right thread for it or people are just apathetic but the club World Cup is really annoying me.

I just don’t see how it’s fair to throw a $billion to a winner of a made up competition. It’s essentially a back hander to one of the entitied super league clubs and they know it. where on earth has that figure come from.

tell you what though, what happens to world football if Auckland city win 1 billion hahaha

The winner doesn’t get a billion, that’s the total prize money

3 up and 3 down each season can't be a good look for the premier league. But I doubt they care.

Good luck to Leeds, Sheffield utd and a-n other. Leeds have the best chance of breaking that norm, but I came see 2 or 3 teams being worse then Sheffield Utd, Burnley or whoever else come up.

Ah well. Goodbye premier league - it was fun while it lasted. See you in 4 years or more

Or are the rest of the leagues around Europe really poor?

There were a few German players who said exactly this. They had to play this style and lost own identity in the process. Germany won World Cup and Euros pre Peps arrival. Been there worst performances in recent years.
I blame the modern coaches now who have this philosophy and perception of what good football is.

passing a ball around the back is not exciting. How many moments per game do fans get off seats and really anticipate the next action. Now they go forward to go back as possession stat has become so important.

In terms of the leagues level is unmatched from before I don’t buy it personally. It’s largely to do with people like ruud people like Russell Martin leading promotion winning sides and thinking they play sideways football and stay in the league. The “philosophy” as well as recruitment is the issue. Wolves are there for the taking this season

None of the teams coming up would stand a chance. Realistically who is falling off the pace enough to be threatened with relegation? You’re genuinely looking at a Bournemouth or Forest qualifying for Europe and struggling with extra workload being the main risk.

I love everything about the Championship. Its a great league.

People moan about it but it does feel a bit more like real football and not a show or technical exercise.  Anyone can beat anyone else and i read somewhere that its in the top 5 best attended league in Europe. Im not disputing the talent gap with the prem but generally it has more entertaining games and real fans

I agree, but it absolutely wasn’t fun, unless you’re referring to most of the seasons pre the last relegation.

Ipswich have money, they’ve spent £150m of it. Squad building is difficult while trying to survive. Forest have spent £450m over three years to get to the position they have. Leeds could try that but it would be an unsustainable gamble.

It’s only entertaining because there’s no technology, and the standard is truly awful. The problems, when you’re shit, it’s a horrendous league….. we should know as we’ve spent long enough in it…  there’s nothing worse that watching dreadful football and not going anywhere as a club. It’s not going to be a pleasurable period for us going forward, we will struggle next season, imagine this season but worse?  Getting beaten comfortably by teams who aren’t even average…..

I hate it, horrible league, horrible football.
