Was he actually good for Palace or was he just one of those really shit players that fans warm to for some reason

I don’t even believe he was a cult hero.  I only ever saw it from board members on here saying he was.  It was always a cope.

34 year old forward with only 70 career goals?! Is that right??

Alright, 81.

50 in English Football (2015 onwards).

Poor, poor player.

Every Palace fan I know loves him.

Where does he rank with the likes of Akinbiyi, Hammond and co.?

Baring in mind he cost a similar amount to Akinbiyi over 20 years later no where near.

Plus he wasn’t actually signed to play as a striker here, if we had a more competent striker he probably wouldn’t have been getting a sniff in that position this season.

Not to mention he has played more games over his career in winger and midfield positions than he has as striker

Same. It really does baffle me. I just dont get it.

22 goals for them in 7 years.

They must be thick as shit or extremely easily pleased.

TBF we love Okazaki. 14 goals in 4 years (playing with better teammates too).

He's an appalling winger as well. Doesn't track back or get forward well, because he can't or won't run.

Yes—Jordan Ayew could still play in the Premier League, but the role he’d have is the key question.

He’s not really suited anymore to being a starting No. 9 for a team that needs goals every week. His scoring output has never been high, and at this stage of his career that’s unlikely to change. So if a club expected him to lead the line and carry attacking output, that would probably fall short.

Where he does still fit is as a squad player in the right system:

  • Mid-to-lower table teams that value defensive structure and work rate
  • Managers who want pressing and discipline from forwards
  • Bench or rotation role, covering multiple positions across the front line

He still offers:

  • Tactical intelligence
  • Ball retention and fouls won
  • Defensive contribution from the front
  • Experience in the league

But the trade-off is limited creativity and inconsistent finishing.

So realistically, he’s at the stage where he’s a useful Premier League squad option, not a focal point. If a team signs him expecting reliability and effort, he can still do a job. If they expect goals and flair, they’ll be disappointed

Drugs are bad kids.

Think.he won player of the year.We can all agree he was poor at Leicester but you don't play over 300 PL games without being a decent player.

Fulham fans think highly of Reid too for some reason.

It’s almost like our playing environment might be part of the problem

Probably because he was good for them.

Funny thing is when he first came he was a bit of a cult hero here. Ipswich and Saints away he was serenaded. Was genuinely decent for about 3 months and then turned into an old man.

Singing his name was always tongue in cheek surely? Definitely was on my part anyway.

If you don't laugh you'll cry type humour.
