Absolutely disgusting, each should look at themselves in the mirror and say I’m I decent

Pat Murphy on 5Live at HT said our defence was awful, was being pulled around and vulnerable, and likely to collapse like a pack of cards.

In all seriousness though I said this a few weeks ago in a match thread and was met with a barrage of abuse. I go into every game knowing we're conceding at least 2 goals so if that isn't the worst I must've have mentally blocked things out due to trauma

Fulham's second goal was as atrocious a goal I've ever seen us concede.

For a split second we actually look like we're in a pretty decent shape with the back four but some extremely simple passing and they're all doing their own thing, they're not alive to anything and the backline is being pulled around by actually nothing particularly special. And then Traore is free at the back post. Woeful.

There's absolutely no doubt that these make up the worst defence I've ever seen from us in the Premier League.

Is it worth changing shape to 3 CBs or would that just be one more mutton head around to c**k up the offside line, play poor back passes, collide with team mates, drift out of position and leave runners in space? Would the extra body add a little bit more solidity (I use that word very loosely).

Rather than it being one of our 4 established CBs could it be Justin with the new Right Back outside him, leaving JJ to come up with whole new ways to skew passes and leave his man in acres of space? :dunno:

I would do this, but even more “out there” place our speediest defender faes as a sweeper to mop up any breaks that occur over the back line.

We don’t have any leaders on the pitch.

In our title winning season and the good times under Brendan we had that.

Now there is nothing.

Leaders? We don't have any good players!

Let's not let our midfield off the hook either. They offer no shielding of the defense and neither them or the wingers track any runners.

I feel like any time we go forward we're attacking a unit - midfield and defense together - whereas any time a team comes forward against us immediately they're in front of our defense and I don't even remember them getting through our midfield, like it's nonexistent.

Not excusing the defense but I can imagine it's incredibly disheartening to look in front of you and know that you're not getting any protection so the attacks are just one after the other with no breaks.

Maybe Cooper was a bit more

Maybe Cooper realised this hense his Skipp Winks Ndidi selections.

Did he manage to deliver the report without mentioning Clough, Ron Saunders or Cyrille Regis?

Cannot stand the man..

This has Frank McLintock vibes (veterans of a certain age will shudder at the thought). Certainly the worst Premier League season the club has ever had. At this point it seems the club have appointed a manager from the Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Neville stable. So many mistakes and it's almost too late to turn it around. Grim.

I've always been surprised that we never do the warm up drills at the start of the 2nd half.

They just walked out onto the pitch, and maybe this is one of the reasons we get caught out so early in the half and give ourselves a more difficult task.

It also can prevent injuries

This is so evident in both goals. Ruud has asked the full backs to tuck in and the wingers to help out on the outer channel. For both goals yesterday, when VK went tight to his man in the box, Fulham just put a diagonal cross into the space where Mavs should've been helping out. The defense gets the  blame, but Mavs is as culpable. For both goals he's just wandering around in midfield doing nothing.

I don't think is just the case with the defence, I'd argue it's one of the worst teams we've ever had in general. Yes we had bad times between O'Neil and Pearson and had some dreadful players during that time but we kind of accepted it as it was because we had no money and we just weren't great at that time. But there is no excuses for this absolute dog muck of a squad we've got now. If you've spend no money for years like we did post Peter Taylor, you accept the squad will be crap but this squad we have now has cost a fortune and is on massive wages.

Vestergaard would make our worse defence.

He has nothing. Over 6 foot yet never wins a header (unless it's free), not strong enough and gets knocked off the ball easily, has no pace and can't run, gets turned easily.

All for £15m plus whatever stupid wage he is on.

Worse defender I've seen here given the money the club has spent on him.
