Ian Nacho Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 So with amortization we'd essentially be paying £6m for a 34 year old right?

Coady is on £100k a week and can't play in a back four. If this is a 18 month deal then we could be better off. That's my take, he could cost us less. We could also get a small fee as you could argue Coady is younger so worth more.

I've got every faith that we still manage to come out of this worse off. Whilst wasting the day doing a bit of business which will be completely inconsequential. 2

dylanlegend Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 Dawson is actually decent and it gets Coady off the books. Who is everyone expecting we sign? Maldini? 2

urban fox Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 Just remember when we signed a certain CB in January who couldn't even get into stokes side. Not saying he is in the same class as Huth, but he is not bad.
RowlattsFox Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 Do we owe Wolves some money and this is a way of not paying that? Actually think we are no worse off if this happens but is that what its come too

He isn't decent though is he. All the wolves fans say the same. His legs have gone. He will be no better than the two idiots who are playing for us now. 1
Mickyblueeyes Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 I've missed having a proper defender at the back. We probably havent had one since Fofana left. Evans was injured and Soyuncu an outcast. We've seen in recent times, Amartey, Vestegaard, Faes, Coady and Okoli. Each one has pissed me off multiple times. They have no standards. Dawson has two things against him - he isnt assured on the ball and his age. But he is a proper defender. Our standards in that area have dropped significantly. If he has got 6 months left in him, honestly and if we do use him properly, he could be a a very shrewd and lucky signing.
It'sblueupnorth Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 People going on about getting coadys wages off the books like the circus running the club won’t give Dawson an equally lucrative deal

If he is on that kind of money, it’s not really of any benefit to move. 18 months 100k at our spa facilities and he gets to leave as a free and maybe get a juicy contract in America or Saudi at 34. Can’t see wolves paying more than 50k a week for someone that’s played 1400 mins in 2 seasons with one of those seasons in the tier below.

To me this seems like we are simply trying to dump Coady's contract on Wolves, and taking Dawson is the price we have to pay to do so.
volpeazzurro Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 Both Coady and Dawson now are way below the standard we need! We arguably need rid of Coady and Faes. Keep Okoli and Vestergaard plus one new signing with Nelson coming back from injury next season. Nelson couldn't have done worse than the current clowns.

He's no Van Dijk but he's a very solid sweeper defender and reader of the game. Trust me, every Wolves fan will be delighted to see him back. He would never have left in the first place but for that ***** Lage getting rid of him because he was too outspoken in the dressing room. He'll fit what we're trying to do with a back three more than Dawson does now. Dawson will probably fit what you're trying to do defensively too so it makes sense from a footballing perspective. Dawson's age is an issue but it could easily work out. He was probably our best defender last season. He’s rubbish, the end. He’s had his good days and now he’s utter pants. See Everton too

What use is a "proper defender" who will be 35 by the end of the season and can't string a pass together and these standards you're talking about, Wolves have conceded 52 goals this season, only one less than us. It's another Ayew, almost every fan can see that it's a pointless signing who won't improve the squad but the club go through with it anyway.

AyewJoking Posted 3 February 2025 Posted 3 February 2025 Rather we just went ahead and signed no one. Seems a move based on PSR more than strengthening the team.
