?

The sport needs saving because a great player wants to join the Champions?

Newcastle have won one trophy in about 70 years. Why would Isak not want to go to a team that have won everything in the last decade?

Players have always wanted to join successful football clubs.

It's different when Newcastle are paying £60m for him from Sociedad.

My point is that even a team like Newcastle can't hold on a "star" player despite winning a trophy. I've said the same thing when the Newcastle takeover took place. They won't be able to attract or maintain quality/world class players unless they relocate the American way. It will happen eventually, this is the plan.

Oh I see what you're saying and yes I agree. People especially think CL football means top players will stay but it doesn't, just look at Spurs. The biggest most consistent clubs, in terms of winning trophies, will usually always get the player they want.

The sport is now regulated by mafia. They're all in it: Owners, agents, associations, players, governments, betting companies. It needs a massive boycott from the pure base of fans.

Some might say I'm being overly dramatic but this is how I feel about football right now.

I already felt this way, but the money being thrown around at players in the Prem makes me sick to my stomach.

Looking likely that even if they knock the price down, Isak is a £100 million + player. Living in this city and knowing how much squalor there is in Anfield and Everton, imagine if the football club spent even a fraction of that improving people's lives by improving housing, buying out slum landlords or providing education and charitable services for the community.

Not that clubs don't do that, but when I think of Vichai finding £2 million down the back of the sofa to help LRI fund new facilities, it puts into perspective just how much potential good for the city is squandered for the sake of a few twats kicking a pigskin around.

Hopefully Liverpool fans will now see that, to most other fans, it is just another club throwing ridiculous money around. They are very well run but other very well run clubs cannot get anywhere near this level of expenditure.

Basically making up for not spending last season but there will be an expectation to do better in Europe now.

Are they at risk from FFP in any way ?

They keep saying this is the year Man City will get their due punishment, but it never happens, does it. In the meantime the authorities can take another pop at little old Leicester and hope this time their legal stuff is in order.

I've said this for a while that a full scale boycott is needed but it won't happen and even if your 'average fan' like us was to boycott, there are millions of people round the world that will still pay ridiculous amounts for match tickets, tv subscription etc. The mafia you speak of don't give 2 fcks about the average fan as we are replaceable with people that are willing to spend more money than we are.

Must be a larger release clause

you'd expect spurs to have something to say about that !

presumably the player gets more dosh so no reason for him not to sign it.  Win - win for him!

The agent is the real winner here.

MGW is stuck somewhere he doesn't want to be for another year, Forest have no doubt given him eye-watering wages to stay, Spurs don't get the player they want and it all means that Forest will be forced to sell him next season for a much larger fee. The agent profits from all of this.

Two clubs have won the last 8 titles. Even with Arsenal spending big and Chelsea improving, I cannot see another winner in the near future.

Looks like Leeds is about to close with Igor Paixão. Difference-making talent there. Their window is starting to look pretty good, and Sunderland has been surprisingly aggressive as well. This may be the year when the trampoline streak is broken for at least one of the three promoted clubs. Leeds look like the best bet to survive but Sunderland may have leapfrogged Burnley at this point.
