Very aware that there are armed police at airports, but not sure why it would take five of them to escort him off a plane.

It does seem excessive, maybe it's just their protocol they have to follow at airports

Do you think anyone with half a brain would read that and go ''Right, must take that approach to dealing with trans women because some guy on the internet said so'' I'm not sure his influence is that far reaching is it? I think there is plenty said on the internet, or generally like knife crime, rape, murder etc that warrants armed officers arresting you at an airport.

Farage shared posts claiming the Southport killer was a newly arrived Muslim asylum seeker and lo and behold people were attacking mosques, Muslims, asylum hotels and stopping non-white drivers from driving down certain roads.

Lucy Connelly tweeted "Set fire to all the ****ing hotels full of the bastards for all I care. While you’re at it, take the treacherous government and politicians with them" and lo and behold, people were trying to burn down hotels.

Incitement is incitement. An act doesn't have to have been carried out nor does there have to be a provable causal link to a crime for it to be incitement. Just the words are enough, if they are considered capable of encouraging a crime. That's not designed to prohibit free speech, it's designed to prevent reckless behaviour from agitators contributing in any way to a crime committed against a protected minority community.

Linehan's unhinged, sadly, and not the only person to become radicalised on a particular issue via the cesspit that is Twitter.

Losing his wife and kids wasn't enough. Losing most of his friends, career and reputation wasn't enough. Has completely and utterly ruined his own life over his stance on this.

If he wants prison, give him prison. Maybe he'll get the help he needs. .

I grew up with Father Ted. I still quote it daily. Literally, daily. Similarly, I loved the IT Crowd and still accidentally say something in Moss's voice.

As a Screenwriter especially, I looked up to his work and achievements and the effect it had had on popular culture and still find a lot of his work and advice invaluable to improving my own writing and command of the craft.

His descent into madness has been horrifying to watch in real time. He blew up his entire life, family, career and reputation just to spout virulent hatred against, by definition, one of the most vulnerable communities in our society. He might have started with the principle of "protecting are women" but he's gone so far past the line now that he's actively inciting violence against people who just need to have a piss or shit.

What the **** happened to him?

Digital information proliferation in all its dark glory, I'm afraid.

I rather hope that this is ironic, otherwise advocating violence towards a marginalised demographic being a "sensible view that is held by the majority of people" would be a rather depressing indictment on UK society.

Tbf I hadn't seen his latest comments, so I hold my hands up. I agree with most of what he has said but would absolutely not advocate violence, unless in a situation where a woman was being harassed.

Armed police arrest is definitely way OTT though.

Can’t think why.

The very obvious clue is in what came after the examples Urban has given of incitement, and what came after the Ricky Jones incident, no?

Because he’s already been tried by a jury of his peers and found not guilty.

And also because the Nazi fascists he was talking about are not a protected group like trans people, religious minorities or people of colour.

No, it’s about picking examples to fit an agenda, but that’s just my opinion. Not too fussed either way, I think most agree  saying stuff online to encourage any kind of violence is daft - not sure anyone is disputing that.

Only dispute there's a difference between gesturing to slit throats, burning people alive or, in this case, the heinous crime of punching a hypothetical bloke in the balls.

"I hear you are brave enough to voice entirely sensible views that are held by the majority of people, father".

Oh yeah, I get that.

It got me thinking though, who would be a social media devil's advocate? Asking questions or voicing opinions you don't necessarily agree with, but feel should be put out there in the interest of balance.

Wouldn't want that job. Putting aside "correct or incorrect", going against the general consensus is online suicide.

Cos metaphors are real! Right?

In other news I've been quite entertained by the (I'm sure extremely wishful) social media speculation over the last few days that Trump has died

It's a classic example of someone not backing away from an argument, having forgotten that arguments are pretty much never won, especially on the internet.

I followed him on Twitter because I'm interested in TV comedy and how it's made - to be honest I wasn't that big a fan. I wasn't banking on seeing all that jazz unfold, that's for sure.

I never got involved in that debate and I avoid it like the plague to this day. Just surreally horrible, and no real winners at the end - a few folk got themselves cancelled but any victory was pretty hollow when it turned out the prize was being put centre stage in a massive culture war

We live in interesting times.
