Yea this was always happening- question for everyone - if you’d seen his last years performances would you have paid 20m for him to try keep us in the prem - I’m still not convinced by him one little bit - having a half decent 20 mins against ten men shef wed ain’t gonna change that either - wish him the best but if it’s actually 30m that’s very decent money for him

For me it is more of a question of whether we will actually use the money properly, or even at all, if we do sell him

Keeping him (and Fatawu) gives us a decent shot at promotion

Selling one or both seriously screws us

The way the club is behaving I would rather just keep him - if he smashes it in the Championship we can still get a very good fee for him next summer

I share the concern absolutely- guess it fully depends just how much trouble we are in financially- no way it all gets used is there - no doubt we need a replacement- I think we are short in that position even with him so need 2 creative mids to come in - we can get 4 loans right ?

Can’t see them paying 30m

if I were them I’d be saying to rudders

’no one is paying his release c,ause - the kid wants to come here - if you don’t take our £22m now then you’ll end up selling him for perhaps less close to the end of the window - you’ll not keep an unhappy player and you need the dosh’.

Why’s everyone so flappy about this? He was always going to be sold. We expected this and Mads all along, but now apparently the world is ending?

Because we all know, that we won’t replace them, we won’t spend a decent dime. As per usual, we’ve sold players late, and have two and a bit weeks to get potentially complicated deals done. It’s not happening. We’ve pissed about again all summer and will end up making ourselves weaker, made some good money and will have nothing to show for it, other than Rudders and Top performing naked bum slaps in the showers thinking it’s a job well done.

Selling all these actually decent players to fund the wages of unsellable dead end footballers who Rudkin offered massive wages to is the real killer.

It’s nothing to do with funding anyone. If he has a release clause and it’s correctly activated by a buying club there’s absolutely nothing we can do! As I’ve said earlier, having a release clause has to be a factor in why ELK would’ve signed for us last season and why he agreed specifics in his contract. We know this as otherwise there wouldn’t have been a release clause - It wasn’t just put in for banter. This is exactly what happened to Kante and it was the only way we were getting him too when he signed for us.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I was wondering if there was a date when BEK’s release clause becomes invalid?

"Later this week" if Percy is to be believed

Unbelievable we've done a deal with a release clause inserted.

As Funkyrobot said above, if you are odds on for relegation, players like BEK will not sign without one, as they don't want to be held to a club going in the wrong direction.  So we choose whether we sign him with a clause or not at all.

It's likely it was the only way we could get him to agree to sign for us.

Last summer we'd already had to sell KDH due to PSR and everyone was expecting a points deduction.

Why would a promising international sign for us last summer without a release clause?

We are at a tipping point of selling too much of our ability to compete for promotion. Bilal would be a big loss.

I don't have faith that Top will give us the funds and/or we will be able to replace players like this with our scouting team.

Can't do much if his release clause is triggered, but this sale should mean we absolutely do not sell Fatuwa or Winks.

Think this was always happening. My only slight hope is we pick up a couple of decent loans from Europe like we did last time in the championship.

We weren’t even linked to fatawu until 23rd of August and didn’t sign akgun until 26th August.

The thing that bothers me is not if Bilal goes. If his clause is met and he wants to go, there is nothing we can do. It's more that we SHOULD already have a few options to replace him in mind. We should have put the feelers out to see what they would cost and what they would want just in case it happens but we all know, thats not gonna be the case.

Not defending the hierarchy by any means, but the same scouting time found El Khannouss.

Leeds will probably end up being his only option. Palace at a push if Eze goes.

I feel like Bournemouth will start panicking under a bit of fan pressure if the first few games don't go well. They've pretty much done their like for like replacements so the odd curveball might come up.

The story is that it was Leuven's DOF who recommended BEK.

The problem is the idiots in charge also bought the rough as well as the diamond.

If that's the case then I'll take it back 😅

Tbf your point is still valid - summer of 23/24 was decent enough. personally I think our scouting is so mixed up - manager input, scouting input, agent input - we've ended up with no clear transfer policy
