I think he’ll score goals and contribute well. He’s a good pro who does exactly as directed and that 12m fee is fair.

I don’t think he fits long term into what we ‘think’ we want to do. He’s not a winger like Mavididi or Fatawu who will commit and take people on so looks less eye catching but I think his off the ball running and timing of runs has always been excellent.

We used to buy low and sell high.

We used to develop our youngsters and sell them at their highest.

Now we are lucky to recover fees paid and transaction costs.

As for youngsters, we are so desperate we don’t even let them blossom a bit and get some of the fruits first before selling them on the cheap.

With McAteer, he is probably fair value but still has some upward potential at such a young age.

With Bilal, 32m is such a low fee for such a young talented player. He could well be worth 50-60 for his next move.

On the other hand we keep some overpriced players for far too long.

Fans overprice their players and undervalue other players, it’s natural.

People were spitting feathers about Mads, and although it’s a super small sample size, fans of the Irons are already calling for Areola to return.

Bilal has done nothing, so saying 32m is too low feels suspect.

McAteer, agree, good price.

Torn on Hamza, as he does what nobody else seems too, namely show lots of effort!

I hope he does well. Shame there wasn’t a future here. I actually think he will do quite well when he is not in an almost impossible environment like ours. 12 million is a good deal on the face of it, however I think although it seems well overpriced atm it will be a shrewd signing for them.

Good deal for us with it being pure profit aswell but let’s not paint it over, kasey McAteers is not part of our problem. If we have 11 players with his mindset, work ethic and attitude we would not be in this mess.

Hadn't thought of this until now but Ipswich have got quite a few Ireland internationals in their squad so maybe that played a part if he gets on well with them

O'Shea, Szmodics, Ogbene, Taylor and noe McAteer. I hope they all come back ok.

Ipswich fans keep going on about how their manager looks for "attributes" in players, I can't for the life of me think which ones Kasey has that stood out to them. Other than his 6 foot 4 inch height obviously.

I dont know what KMcK saw in him either. But time will tell. With Burns still recovering from his ACL did he just want somebody as back up ?

Hot take - we are sorely missing Kasey's workrate. Average player but at least he put a shift in.

I’d agree with that. I think we expected more from stephy than we’ve had, but it’s hard to argue that he wouldn’t have delivered more output for us than we’ve had.

The squad is goal shy and Kacey was always good for popping up with goals

Did he have much of a work rate?

Seemed to have a phobia of attacking.

Couldn't take on players, had no skill for a winger, couldn't shoot, had no pace.

He was only 'good' because he was an academy product.

1 good game in about 10. Average otherwise.

As bad as we are, I've never at any point this season thought "You know what would improve this team? Kasey McAteer".

Exactly

I prefer Monga and Fatawu on the wings

Mavididi is a better back up option than McAteer - although his recent form is worrying

And we still have a youngster called Evans

£11 Mil was a stupid price for Ipswich to pay - I bet we would have accepted less,

Now I wonder if they would like Skipp for half price - let's call it £10 mil

The team is almost entirely devoid of creativity as it is and I'm not sure throwing into the mix an ostensibly attacking player who can't take on defenders or pass the ball would be all that helpful.

At best we have missed someone to rotate with Fatawu. And he would've been better to bring on then Reid, and might have helped us protect the lead. Would he have got turned so easily like Mavididi last night for example?

Still, couldn't turn that money down.

I think we'd have more luck trying to off load Skipp to Ipswich's neighbours, Norwich. Skipp had a good season there, and memories of that might mean we can pick up 5-10M for him.:brendan:
