Staying fit is key.

A no nonsense defender with the actual leadership qualities we need.

Yes we need a striker but he is everything we are devoid of. Please stay fit 🙏

I imagine we've signed him more for the latter than his on pitch presence

Well happy with this one.

We haven't kept a clean sheet in over 4 months. Whether left back and striker were of greater importance in this window is debatable, as that's a ****ing disgusting stat at this level for any team, never mind one which has fallen from the height we have. Desperately needed some organisation at the back & hopefully the next manager knows how to set us up properly too.

I know he did his cruciate in 2024 but how often has he actually been injured? He's not good enough to get into Newcastle's side ahead of Schar, Burn, Thiaw or Botman. Him not playing doesn't necessarily mean he was injured... or is that clutching at straws?

Genuinely not that bad. Most of his injuries pre ACL were knocks, twists, strains, the usual defender stuff!

Transfermrkt have him down with 3 separate 'muscle issues' this season which have equated to him missing all but 5 squads. Each injury has been sustained off pitch too.

A few Newcastle fans have said if he suddenly starts for us on Saturday they'd question whether the latest 'injury's' even existed.

Look I know we're notoriously thick, but there's no way we've given someone a 6 month contract if they can't play within the next few weeks.

*Howe is quoted pre christmas saying "He doesn't feel great in his body but does not have a specific injury". Could just be a need to get match fit and him knowing the Premier League and Champions League isn't the best place to do that!

I think there's a very good chance that could be the case. Did we not basically do this with Ramsey?

I think it incredible hard to believe that someone with 19 mins football since April 2024 is going to come in and not be on the treatment table within a couple of weeks. I don't mind the gamble, but I'd say there's about a 15-20% chance he plays any meaningful part till the end of the season.

Hate to burst the optimism bubble, but his recent injury record is atrocious and has barely played in the last 3 years. Will be lucky to stay fit.

We have seen these types of signings before, and they usually involve a game or two and then the rest of the season on the treatment table e.g Ryan Bertrand or our current Aaron Ramsey.

Only positive, we haven't offered him a 3 year contract... (yet)

We can live in hope , when we signed Huth he had been out with injuries .

Not sure I would agree with you assessment.

The likelihood is that Newcastle have paid his contract up effectively he is never going to return to Newcastle.

As for not given someone a 6th month contract if he can’t play in the next few weeks , without knowing the details of that contract you really can’t make an informed decision on that .irrespective it’s not actually 6 months it’s almost certainly going to be around 13 weeks. So more like 3 months.

If he signs a deal, at little to no cost with the opportunity to prove his fitness then what’s the risk financially to LC ?

He isn't  a 25 year year old who has just suffered an ACL it appears that this 32 year old  who sadly hasn’t been able to recover from an ACL . There are 16 games left in the regular league season he isn’t going to be close to match fitness even in the less demanding Championship.

A fully fit and match sharp Lascelles will be obscene at this level..

Which he's not.

It's like saying Ayew or Reid would have been quality at this level 5 years ago. Or Antonio when we were linked with him.

I don't know where all these Lascelles fans are coming from. Newcastle fans like him now after he just happened to be there whilst being a fringe player during their new found success or having his hand held by a better player next to him. For years they ridiculed him, Darlow and Dummett for not being good enough. It might seem harsh but there is so much revisionism and blind optimism going on it's mental.

Hopefully he can tell Ricardo and Thomas to stop standing still and passing backwards but move and get forwards.

Nelson will benefit from someone telling him to actually defend and not worry about making so many runs and leaving the back exposed, especially if he is coming back from an injury/fitness.  He won’t want to be letting us get countered every time Ayew falls over.

Am I wrong in thinking this is the guy that pulled a hamstring every time he faced vardy?

Another deadline day deal, why do we always leave it so late?
Another 30s ex EPL player as well.

I didnt see that coming of course.

--edit--

At least its only 6 months deal so thats more sensible than usual.

you can’t reverse aging. But you can get fit and sharp after a lengthy lay off.
