The exact same rumours were said last summer that Martin was offered it before RvN was sacked and he questioned why hadn't we sacked him yet and wasn't willing to wait. My gut feeling is we haven't spoken to him this time around, not properly anyway.

Our recent appointments have been dreadful apart from Enzo.
Even under Enzo it was a bore fest to watch.
It will be more down to luck than good judgement who we end up with next imo.

Enzo would also have been found out the next season.  We only just scraped being Champions, and if the season were 5 matches longer, we would not have been imo.

For some reason I'm dreading this appointment far more than the others before, even if they turned out to be bad, too...  *ARGH*

At this rate, I'd trust my Mum to do a better job - (she'd have them fit, for one thing! (I'm pretty sure she's had enough of hearing me complain about the team's lack of fitness this year, everytime I talk to her))  - not that they could afford her, but still... :P  (Seriously - I had to ask: just for being a fitness/physical co-ordination etc. coach, she'd be charging £1 Mil a week :O  I guess she can stay retired... :D)

Good news, Karl Robinson just became available. He’s finished fourth and eight in League Two at Salford so he’s potentially an upgrade on our last few duds.

While I'd prefer pretty much anyone to Russell Martin, this would feel almost as bleak.

Interesting, I hear Martin had additional talks over the weekend and is looking more and more likely to be the manager

Someone very very reliable told me there's nothing in Martin.

Missed this. Have Salford sacked another manager? Go through them don’t they 😂

But it wasn't 5 matches longer and we did go up as Champions

I dno, he's come from a group that absolutely adore the way Martin wants to play. I'd suspect he would be on board with Martin.

I imagine they both gave esch other  a 2 hour presentation. Had a huel and high performance podcast break in between, then finished off with a game of Padel.

Memes aside, you'd perhaps hope that the fact he does have that background means he views Martin as the joke he is.

I kinda agree with Ric, it wouldn't surprise me if we haven't even really approached him.

I'd trust Karl Pilkington for the job tbh

10 years ago Karl Robinson was very up and coming in lower league and I remember him being talked about on potentially going on to bigger things.Never Happened for him. Been treated slightly harsh Salford though, one result aay from Automatic promotions. they were poor in the the play off final though.

Don't want him here mind you.

Cheers Buzz killington! :D

On McCarron, I'm not falling into the trap of assuming he's elite because he's worked for an elite company. The man looks like he loves a slide deck though!

I think we'll have a good idea of his ability after 18-24 months. If he does have any significant influence, it's gonna take a year minimum before we start seeing any evidence of the results of it. It should become quite apparent if he's allowed to stamp his own authority though as we're pretty easy to read as a club.

For what it's worth I'm in the same boat on your 2nd line , I find it hard to believe we have any real interest. I expect it's either:

1. journalist(s) making an educated guess and if it comes off they look like they have the inside scoop. or

2. I really don't want to credit the club too much, but perhaps there is something to the idea that they chuck some rancid names out to people in the media, in order to soften the blow when the actual appointment happens.

All I know is, if it was to happen then 23 league one teams will get a temporary fan while he is here.

We'd won 3 in a row at the end of the season scoring 10 and conceding 1, before we lost to Blackburn on the final day when we clearly weren't arsed about winning. I think we'd of been fine.

Oh god I absolutely don't think he's going to be amazing and solve all our problems. I wouldn't even describe myself as cautiously optimistic anymore.

I just think even a club with as poor footballing intelligence as us must surely now realise Martin is shit.

They absolutely should have but I doubt the club has given the manager appointment too much focus as yet. Karel Geraerts still available, can't remember who mentioned him before?

Now the 5000/1 game is finally out of the way they're busy trying to clear the decks and balance the books for L1. Getting perceived fair value for Monga seems to be about the extent of any activity.
