Indeed, re "our way" last season you mention (presumably the fans hounding out Cifuentes in January?). I wonder if we'd have stayed up (obv. still with the points deduction), had he stayed on until the end of the season? He was dogshit but we might have just squeaked it and Rowett was unable to turn it around of course. I really don't have a clue how this season will end, whether or not Martin will still be here at Christmas - but hopefully not like last season's end! - while we probably need to get promoted at the first attempt to avoid administration.

no, I don’t think we’d have stayed up last season if Cifuentes had stayed, Rowett reverted to a similair style of football very quickly.

as for Administration, I’d like to think promotion would’ve saved us but the talk from club about some of this seasons signings, “experience and should be playing at a higher level”, makes me think that they could be wages that are unsustainable even in the championship.

Yes,  especially with the length of some of those contracts handed out lately, like four years for Riis, even though that was probably the only way we were going to get him from Bristol! Similar for Cullen and Burns too I think!

It’s definitely a gamble and with Martin I don’t personally think it’s going to pay off, we need a street wise manager at this level to get us promoted, Martin is all show without substance.

Why it points to  a bigger problem. I think it doesnt matter a jot who the manager, someone else is pulling the strings (Jon Rudkin)

Top and Rudkin have the same arrogance levels as Martin.
They’d never entertain going for an experienced lower league manager like Challinor.
Rather try and fail with Mr Ego all while trying to be mini Man City in league 1.
Completely clueless.

Rudkin

Rudkin should have been sacked for our 1st relegation alongside Brendan Rodgers.

If Rudkin wasnt sacked in 22/23, dont expect him to be sacked now lol

The ONLY way that parasite Rudkin gets sacked is when we're bought by a new owner.

How can it be that giving the new manager a budget to bring in his own players can be a negative?  Players that have played at higher levels than this.   He also has a generation of academy graduates that would walk into any other team in this division.

Most managers would love to have this problem.

Lol. Where did I say recruitment was a negative? It just usually takes time for things to gel.

Exactly, this is why its pointless looking for a new manager, they are out of ideas. The only real hope is that maybe Top finally realises Rudkin is shit after he got his man and we were still rubbish.

Tbf I think most decent managers would not want to work under these clowns, I think we just need to see the Martin thing out. Sacking him now will unlikely have any positive impact.

Keeping him in post is unlikely to have any positive impact as well. So imo it’s better to part ways and get someone competent that can get us promoted because the outlook is bleak if we don’t get promoted.

We aren't going to get anyone competent with these clowns making the decisions, it will likely be someone even less competent as per the last 5 managers.

I thought he was having a season out of the game for personal reasons (a break from the game) anyway....

So I had the (mis)pleasure of talking to Martin after the Northampton cup game. I asked him why we don't leave players on the half way line when we defend set pieces (something in the modern game that irks me, no counter!). He told me he'd like to but they have to keep things tight at the back. He then praised Northampton for keeping two up when defending corners.

Well I have two issues with this...

1) He's the manager. If he wants us to set up with a man on the half way line for a quick counter, do it!

2) We aren't exactly safe as houses at the back are we?! (admittedly I can't recall a goal against coming from a set piece as of late)

I just think he's a walking contradiction.

Not much 'show' either

He averages a 38% win ratio across five clubs, bumped up by his promotion season (which included two 5-0 defeats, a four match losing run and seven defeats in the last 16 regular season matches). He is a general mid table manager.

I keep hearing how his style takes time to adapt but his most successful period as a manager and the reason why he got the Rangers and Leicester job, was in the first 6 months at Southampton, they only got worse after that...

I think the truth is, there's no gold at the end of the rainbow in his tactics, he's just not a good manager.

Jake Humphrey is a big admirer which says it all.

I'd like to be kind and say Humphrey is biased because Martin played for Norwich but I think it's more likely that they're both massive twats

Listening to when you're smiling, they were saying in his defence the goal was from his football style which we scored on Saturday, seemingly ignoring the fact that the goal we conceded was due to his football style.

What is happening isn't all on him, of course its not, Also I know we might have taken a few weeks to get going style wise, But get some results 1st to give you some credit in the bank.

I wanted to give him a chance, but its not working out. He'll have to have a run in the like he did in the Championship with Southampton to stand a chance.

Facts are facts, Under Him we have been the lowest weekly positions in the clubs footballing history. Its not good enough, in fact its embarrassing. Should've never been here.

Without checking I'm sure these patterns would reoccur throughout Martin's spells at other clubs

1st for errors leading to shots

22nd for xG per shot

13th for shots against

15th for xG against

18th for shots conceded in the box

Can't speak to all the detail of the broader passing stats, but re the nuts and bolts of goals scored and conceded (e.g. defensive errors/ shots conceded / goals conceded / chances created / goals scored / xG / GD):

From the BBC report after his sacking at Southampton:

'Southampton had the most errors leading to goals (10) and the most mistakes leading to shots (26). Martin's side also faced a league high of 108 shots on target. Their tally of 11 goals was a league low.'

From the BBC report after his sacking at Rangers:

'Even in victory there were serious red flags. Martin's side faced an eye-watering 73 shots across four matches while progressing past Pananthinaikos and Viktoria Plzen. The underlying numbers were not sustainable. In the Premiership, no team has had fewer clean sheets. They are on a negative goal difference. Their expected goals (xG) rating out of nine, ranks them eighth.'

'Even with that evidence, Martin often said his team's deficiencies were down to mentality issues, and not tactics.'
