This is nonsense. Rodgers had a great record behind him so you could see why he would be given time. Martin does not.

So did Ranieri, who was (rightly) booted less than a year after the unthinkable. Rodgers' downturn lasted much longer until he (belatedly) was sacked, with disastrous concequences.

I'm flattered lol

In all seriousness, I'd ****ing love to have a proper chat with Martin.

I'd actually be fascinated to talk to quite a few of our former coaches but I wouldn't want to actually interview them.

I'd want it off the record, when their guard was down like Martin's was here. I want to hear them justify some of the shit they've done earnestly without cameras rolling when they can give some degree of honesty.

Imagine being able talk to Cooper or Ruud or Marti about our plummeting sprinting, work rate and pressing stats, for example, and trying to hear them justify being worst in the league.

As fans, and I include the FT etc, do we do enough to demand the answers to our collapse?

I know it’s largely an unpopular missive, but I think aside a possessive, he was pretty much spot on. Enzo was inspired (arguments around that squad etc and it being a cheat-code are possibly valid etc) and got us out of the trouble briefly. Oh god, we know it all. I wonder if as a fanbase we’re far too complicit.

The déjà vu is genuinely remarkable.

Every single beat, playing out exactly the same way as it has at his other clubs.

The tactics, the turns of phrase, the excuses, the approach to fans and media, the performances, the stats, the results.

If you buy a Ford Fiesta you can’t then be surprised when your experience of owning one replicates everything you’ve read a million times in reviews of the Ford Fiesta.

Your board hired Russell Martin. They’re getting Russell Martin.

It’s on them.

It absolutely is - and it's staggering the way they can keep digging a deeper hole for themselves. The stark contrast from 2016 to now makes it even more unbelievable.

Like Rodgers, Martin is the chosen one. He’ll be here until he begging to be sacked.

You still get people on socials saying things like "Do you genuinely believe he's trying to get sacked?!" and make it sound like we're from another planet for suggesting that.

The clue is...we won't be the last club that appoints Martin so while it continues to work and he gets a payout persisting to play a style he knows full well won't be successful..then of course I believe that's a tactic. It'll come out at some point, that managers in general think like that and why wouldnt they....it works.

Those that deny it, live in fairyland where no one could possibly act in self-interest and are all upstanding citizens with perfect moral compasses.

There was a point on Tuesday where I turned the stream on with the volume down to see us get the ball and look like we had them stretched,  then suddenly we stopped and played it back, like the ref had called the game back.

Was thinking "oh must have been a free kick..."

No the player literally got frightened that we might have got into a position where Stevenage had over stretched and it's like we mustn't start anything until everything is reset. We then inevitablly lost the ball and they just hit us on the counter in seconds.

Absolutely horrific football and how Martin cannot see it's not working is criminal!

The number of people defending him on twitter currently has actually shocked me I genuinely don't understand why anyone thinks he is even a half decent manager

More can be done, certainly, but would it have an effect? The board/owners have not listened to fans for many years, if ever. Why should they start to now when the criticism is at it's highest? The club are doing what they can to cut off fans and leave them disillusioned.
Top is living in a bubble and is completely inept and/or misguided as to what the causes of the club's decline are and he's wholly unequipped to deal with getting it back on track.

Haven't watched it because it sounds cringey, but if he said to me "you've been shit since you got promoted with Maresca" then surely the logical counter point is to point to his record since that season too? Expert in failure.

That would have required a competent fan on the other end. This bloke waited for Russell to ambush him but seemed to not have any structure with the points he was trying to convey, bizarre!

These are the sorts of comments and opinions that are valued. It’s great seeing your POV and well articulated. Was better than your “get to f**k” comment 🤣

Maybe you’re right, but he was clearly employed to play this brand of football. By all means we can vent anger at the upper management but due to them forcing that style. It’s not really his fault.

But even if he wasn't this is the style he would play proven by every other job he has ever been in. He refuses to change it even when it clearly isn't working. He had no plan B and his plan A is awful yet he refuses to acknowledge its failings.

He is a bad manager and the style of play is his fault

X amount of shots over the last 5 games when in those 5 games we have lost to Stevenage in the ****ing Sandwich cup, bottled a lead against 10 man Barnsley, beat a team of literal children, almost blown a 4-1 lead against Stockport, and been tonked by Oxford

He asks what we want as if it is asking too much to not be struggling in the bottom half of League 1 with a negative goal difference and barely more than a goal a game

This is what the fan should have been prepared to counter with.

If he wants to play undercover journalist and wait for an hour after the game, ask better questions than “I’m from Exeter, why are you a twat?”

The 'you've been shit since then' line is so telling.

He' already lining up excuses and is the line he'll use at his next job interview for why he didn't fail here.

We're a free hit for this twonk.

The irrelevant stat (i.e. we create shots = my tactic is sound and the players are shit), the defensiveness and taking the abuse personally, that line you mention, "the live by the sword"-line, listing previous failed managers (i.e. suggesting they're at least as much to blame or that there are other, still-persisting reasons reasons they failed) all expresses that he's not taking accountability and won't listen or change. And he did that all in less than a minute.

Bluntly, no. I obviously can't absolve myself of that, before someone answers with the obvious "well why don't you do something?"

But we're a pretty pathetically compliant fanbase on the whole. We don't really do protest.

I think it's a problem in broader British fandom in general to be honest. Ticket prices go up in Germany, rival ultra groups from fierce local derbies are matching arm in arm together uniting to put it right.

Form dips in Marseille, Lisbon, Seville, fans are at the training ground making themselves heard.

You don't get a lot of that in this country. The Scousers have a bit of a chip on their shoulder, Everton's fans group in particular make themselves very heard when something is happening. If they'd tried to hire Russell Martin, I reckon their equivalent to our Trust would have been organising active protest that might have genuinely made the owners reconsider.

We don't have that. Even with our "new" Trust leadership I think we've had one statement of dissatisfaction posted recently and that's about it?

Trending in the right direction maybe I'll give them that but not exactly anything the club need to worry about.

The modern trick is to appear to do the ‘right things’, portray that it would all be great if you were backed, pray to get sacked (the money is great) but do just enough to be seen as relevant for your next job. Do enough of these to earn millions and you are set for life, and you can keep yourself busy turning up on sky sports now and again.

It's straight out of the Trump school of thought. Believe your own hype, lie and bully everyone into complying and make big bucks in the time it takes your opposition/employer to find out the truth and get you out.

You are spot on

He'll use any lousy stat and throw any ****er under the bus to prove it's not him

All very revealingly and a real insight into how and what this twonk really thinks.

There’s STILL people saying we need to give him more time or if he just changes his approach slightly.

AFTER telling that fan he’ll fall on his sword playing his way as he’s not changing it.

We have the worst fans in the country, honestly, I don’t know how some of you get dressed in the morning.

He’s only got one plan, Plan A possession based which is useless if we can’t finish the possession off by losing the ball in the last quarter, he has no other plans no B C Or even up to Z the man has shown he hasn’t got the Acumen how many more clubs is he going to put into jeopardy by his useless Plan A?

I’m really hopeful that this rumour of an American consortium coming in for us is true and that can be sorted sooner rather than later especially when he comes out and say we’ve been schitt since Maresca left to a fan is that the way to describe the club you’re working for and being a schitt manager of that guy was right he’ll be sacked like the others did ?

Having been tangentially involved with the Trust myself, I can absolutely guarantee they work very hard in very difficult circumstances. Their legitimacy comes from faithfully representing the fanbase and if the fanbase doesn't sign up in impressive numbers, doesn't take part in surveys and/or shows no appetite for protest, then its pronouncements can be easily dismissed as the views of a noisy minority. I was handing out leaflets about the annual fan survey before the Hull game and I couldn't believe how many fans were determined to walk past and not get involved. On the protests, there were  people complaining that it was blocking their route to the stadium.

He would be the captain on the titanic, saying keep playing the music the boat too big to sink.

Imagine a Pearson type being happy with losing and saying we have had loads of shot we will be fine.

The bloke is a delusional helmet, and there is a reason he has been sacked from his last 2 jobs and finds himself managing a team that spent the most money has the highest wage bill and best facilities including young players but still finds himself languishing below mid table in the 3rd division

The difference is probably Jamie Vardy.

This

The difference between him and Maresca is "Jamie Vardy"? The Jamie Vardy that scored 6 goals and assisted once in the first 29 games (in which he only played more than 45 minutes in half of them and was out for 11 games)? A run during which we scored 50+ goals and W22 D3 L4 in a league above?

How Vardy-tinted are your specs??

Edit: If you're insinuating that we are not finishing our chances, then have a look at the stats already posted. It is a myth (and very oversimplified) to say it's because we don't have a clinical striker. Riis is actually overperforming his xG. We're not creating good chances and the ones we do create mostly fall to other players in the squad.

I think his point was actually more shots = exciting football, hence the 'dont know what you people want'. Thing is, i dont want to see a hit and hope shot after 45 sideways passes were the opposition have been given all the time in the world to get in the perfect defensive formation.
