Does anyone think if say Belgium had a player sent off in the last match Fifa would have been receptive to an appeal by the Belgium government? Back in 1990 when Gazza got a soft yellow card it would never have crossed anyone's mind to appeal should England  got to the final. Some people are so morally corrupt they are happy to accept this nonsense

Money. The root of all evil.

Probably the only thing I've seen from the Bible that makes sense.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “So I saw the play, and I’m a person that loves sports and was a good athlete. I understand sports really well. Really well.

Trump added: “We’re going to have a full team, and Belgium is going to have a full team, and you know what? If they beat us, then they can be really proud. The other way, if they beat us ... I say it was rigged, just like the election was rigged in 2020.”

lol ****ing unreal!

After looking at Balogun's tackle in-question a few times, football has really gone now that his supposed-to-be immediate ban for it hasn't remained..

It's as dangerous as a tackle can get in the game.

Today, football won over corruption. Feel for the US players/fans caught up in this circus.

College football starts next week, so the majority will probably forget “the soccer world championships” was even on.

Well Balogan had a chance to be immortalised as the man who did the right thing by removing himself from the squad. He would have been talked about for generations to school kids as both a paragon of sportsmanship and also a man who called out a despot.

But no. Bye bye Folarin, no one will remember you next week.

And a misquote.

The love of money is the root of all evil.

Fifa has hit back at Uefa in the war of words over the lifting of the USA striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension by accusing it of hypocrisy in its condemnation of the decision.

In a statement attributed to the chair of Fifa’s disciplinary committee, Mohammad Al Kamali, published before the USA’s last-16 defeat by Belgium, Fifa insisted that “the overturning of red cards is a common disciplinary measure” in Uefa-affiliated leagues, “yet this has never raised concerns about crossing any ‘red line’”.

Fifa’s statement defended the controversial decision to lift Balogun’s ban, describing it as “a balanced measure” and “nothing new in the modern game”.

What an unbelievably thick response from FIFA!

Provided that Argentina win tonight, at least 5 of the quarter finalists in this World Cup will be from the top 8 in the world and all of them will be from the top 12 (as per ELO rankings). The two teams in the top 8 already out were put out by one of the other top 8 teams.

Shows that overall class is telling as the business end of the tournament approaches.

Infantino is a disgrace and has brought FIFA and football into disrepute. He is no better than Blatter.

Time for a change.

I don't think FIFA had any good reputation worth any consideration in the first place. FIFA should cease to exist really. They are the highest profile international sporting organization together with the IOC, but really this kind of corrupt stuff happens all over the spectrum.

The next guy will be just as tainted and poor as Infantino, Blatter, Havelange etc.
Also, given the longevity of the latter two, I wouldn't be surprised if Infantino stayed in place for a couple more decades.

I know what the actual quote is. I was paraphrasing

Infantino is perfect for FIFA.  A cross between a Swiss banker and an Italian mobster.

It's one country, one vote, and he's already secured re-election with the unanimous voting intentions of the African (50-some votes) and other confederations.

He's managed to extract almost ten billion $$ out of this extravaganza by preying on the egos and naivete of American officials, who (with the notable exception of the mayor of Chicago :appl: ) have agreed to fund nearly all of the billions in staging and security costs from the public purse, while foregoing damn near all the revenue -- going so far as to cover up stadium branding.

A lot of that will be distributed to the national football bodies of the third world, and if you don't believe much of that is going straight into the pockets (and Swiss bank accounts) of the connected few , I have a bridge to sell you.  Sure, some pitches will be built and some boots purchased.  But it's about enriching a few insiders, and it has been for a long, long time.  No ****, it is 100% about money and 0% about integrity.  What makes you think that will ever change?

UEFA is the only countervailing power, and I think we all know useful "Europe" is at coordinating action and projecting power.

This Mbappe racism scandal is incredible.

The Paraguayan senator is continuing to double down and is now threatening to sue Mbappe for "political and gender violence".

Like one of the previous posters has said: Infantino is going nowhere because Africa, Middle East, Caribbean and now likely North America will all carry on voting for him.

How on earth have we got to a point where the U.K has hosted a single WC while Mexico has 3!?

Not to mention England being behind France, Italy, Brazil, Germany and the US, too.

Oh and Spain now from 2030.

Also rigged to make sure we are back in the US in 12 years.

2 cycle ban from hosting after you have hosted

2030 is in South America, Africa and Europe. This was also done so 2034 could be in....

2034 Saudi Arabia. Asian confederation and middle east money flows back.

2038 all confederations are unable tk host due to the 2 year ban apart from CONCACAF. USA being one of the best countries to host a whole tournament.

Trump will be long dead by then, but the corruption will still run deep
