I think I’m going to get on the beers until 1am now, then rewatch the game at 1 so I can relive it from the England fans experience over there, then go into work tomorrow still pissed and try and get through the day In solidarity with everyone back home.

Don't forget the hour delay...

Glad I stayed up - this is why I find the calls about kick-offs times at a World Cup slightly off. That was an experience with 70 yr old Dad that I won't be repeat but remember for the rest of my life. Just like those Japan/Korea morning kick-offs. Azteca looked incredible at night too. The atmospheres involving the central/South American teams at night look excellent. Such a shame that we probably won't see the Azteca host another World Cup game in our lifetime or generation anyway.

Fantastic game, and the best all-round performance I’ve ever seen from an England side - not a weak link anywhere, including the manager.

The game had everything: two penalties, a sending off, five goals, great saves from the keeper, and epic performances from the subs. Even the comedy turn from Henderson is one for the ages.

I’m really glad I stayed up - even if I am knackered now.

34% possession. Against Norway.

Bizarre to see this kind of argument on a Leicester forum. Norway obviously have the best team they've ever had with arguably the best striker in the world, so it's a bit demeaning for no reason. In the first half, Brazil's plan obviously worked. Besides the disallowed goal and the long ball (ironically) giving Ødegaard a clear shot, Norway had nothing. Brazil meanwhile spurned multiple gilt-edged opportunities. Basically how Real Madrid/Ancelotti would play against another top team.

I understand why Tuchel is complaining, their free kick for the first goal is never a free kick, looked like a dive. Their pen is neither a pen nor a clear and obvious error, and the red card is near identical to the Balogun one, so see no reason why FIFA shouldn’t suspend it on appeal. It’s going to be very hard for them to justify not suspending it.

Yep, and they still created and wasted enough chances to win the game. They had 5 big chances and should have scored 3 or more really. Should have been a few goals ahead when Haaland scored the first

Only last week you and others were slagging them all off and saying how rubbish we are.

Personal opinions aside, it can’t be denied how good the performance, tactics and result were last night. I mean, the performances haven’t been great in my opinion, up until last night, when it’s probably the best I’ve seen England play in my opinion. Not so much the quality of the opposition (Mexico are a good team), but a lot was made of the atmosphere and with good reason, it’s not an easy place to go and play and win like England did. No matter what your stance is on the national side, that can’t be denied.

i think its the same for all teams though, if we dont play well we are sh!te, if we play well we are the best in the world!  Thats just football fans for you!

I am guilty of that...

England have been excellent in 3 out of 5 games in my opinion and good to average in the other 2 (Ghana and Panama). The reaction to the DR Congo game was a bit ridiculous, from pundits as well as fans, we were dominant aside from the opening 15mins or so. I was genuinely never worried we wouldnt win it in normal time, we created a huge number of big chances against a team who barely concede any, could have had 5 on  another day.

It’s a possibility we might. Mexico could co host with multiple nations outside of the USA itself. So, we might get the opportunity to experience it again.

The Mexico penalty was the one decision I think that was decidedly uncertain.

It’s very similar to the one we were given in the Euro semi’s against Netherlands.

Think the ref was trying too hard to be in control. The foul from Saka which lead to their first goal wasn’t a foul for me.

Also why is everyone banging on anout Maradona at the Azteca ? whats that got to do with it ?

Also the bloke CHEATED to win, so hes a cheating get and I hate the way everyone condone's it as "brilliance".  He was a bloated cheat simple as that....

What a night.

Every so often you get invested in a game of that magnitude and it hits home just what this sport means!

Shearer saying it wasn't a pen from Kane's foul did make me smile, must have been the occasion getting the better of him. The tension through the TV was something else, so God knows what it was like in the stadium.

Tuchel played a blinder.

Bellingham is a hero! I love how much it means to him and how he's such a leader at such a young age.

Critics and other countries will probably say Mexico aren't a strong team and we will need to be better to beat the best, and they are probably right but that win was about character, fight and pride for the shirt.

Mexico were average and had very little variety to their play.

Yet a lot of people before the game had already written us off, saying the altitude and atmosphere will get to us and we won’t be able to live with them the first 20 minutes. But I certainly agree that looking at the Mexico side, you can’t argue it’s nothing more than average.

The game plan was executed to perfection and the defending after their penalty was class. A performance to be really proud of. Grit, determination, heart and fight. That game was about as tough as it could’ve been, with all things considered.

Think I’ve mentioned this in other posts but it’s just a shame it had to be so dramatic and close.

It wasn’t a foul for their first and it wasn’t a pen for their second.

England were comfortable in the game and fully deserved their goals, Mexico didn’t.

His second goal however was probably the best solo goal in World Cup history…..

I just see the USA literally having every North American hosted World Cup from here on in.

Although the feeling from some of the journos close to the FIFA hierarchy is that Infantino will face a challenge now given his antics yesterday and that might see a change in tact

I agree it was a great goal, but he still cheated and got away with it

It will be a valuable experience though. They’re not going to get a more intense 90 minutes again I don’t think, so to come through that will do the group a lot of good.

We see for ourselves and are used to other countries players raising their games in big international tournaments. That's an element most often missing from England teams. They haven't got the heart or pride in our country, only interested in their clubs and contracts, we are told. Well this squad has which made it all the more epic.

For England and St George :englandsmile4wf:

You can't kick through a players foot to win the ball though.

Wouldn't have stood with VAR. Foul on Hoddle.

He isnt wrong. I went and checked. All 3 VAR were South American

I saw that prior to ko. I wasn't the only person in my local to question it. Although, l don't think they made any absolute howlers & seemed to be fairly consistent.
