They're hardly pissing it to be fair. Been a struggle for them in most games and arguably shouldn't be here given what happened against Senegal.

They've improved since dropping De Bruyne though is my point.

We deserved to be mocked for that performance. We were a total embarrassment.

Ultimately USA surpassed the neutral's expectations and I don't think anyone will blame Americans for getting a bit giddy in thinking they'd get past a strong team.

They topped a group with teams of similar quality to them but were always going to lose to a stronger team. Vibes will only ever get you so far.

Yeah this. Get pumped up as the hosts and getting ambitious isn't a crime. USA were always eventually going to get dumped when they first came up against a decent side. Don't think the mocking is for going out or even getting hammered, Belgium are capable of doing that to most teams in the world on their own day.

The wall to wall mocking is just because of the very obvious corruption and the fact that Trump/Infantino combined have made USA the pantomime villain of the moment.

Fair, and I would accept a loss to Belgium in many circumstances (and good job by them blowing us away without even having to get beyond walking speed). But as a team and as individuals that was an abject performance.

Tim Ream got put in a body bag by Charles de Ketelaere. Matt Freese is now a meme in human form. Christian Pulisic, get ready to learn MLS, buddy. Youri Tielemans looked like Makelele against what should have been one of the better midfields we’ve had.

I couldn’t even spell “Youri” correctly in my original post, that’s how far gone my head is today

But this is the point.

CdK is playing at the top end in a top 5 league whilst Tim Ream is plodding about in the MLS at the ripe age of 62. Youri Tielemans is arguably one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Matt Freese has only ever played in America Pulisic might be the only decent American player but he's no leader and has too much thrown on him. His goal against Senegal was his first for his country since 2024.

USA had a team willing to try it's hardest and a country cheering them on but ultimately you put a team with the likes of Trossard, Tielemans, Doku, Courtois, de Ketelaere etc in front of them and they were always going to struggle.

It's telling that Paraguay got hammered by the USA in the group but still made it as far as the Americans, knocking out Germany and pushing the best team in the tournament all the way while the Americans limply go out to a Belgian side on the wane.

I know it's easy to say now, but I did find it strange how many people were tipping Belgium to lose in the build up.

I'd guess that had a lot more to do with a very underwhelming showing by them vs Iran and Egypt and then barely squeaking past Senegal than it had to do with the US being good.

I’d been disappointed by Belgium so far and had the game as a 50/50 because of that and the states being at home.
on the day, Belgium raised their game and USA had an off day

Lmao this is hilarious. Please win 1 meaningful game and then pop off.

Wasn't trying to diminish the England win. Hell I was watching and cheering and then sweating all through the longest 11 minutes ever.

Growing up here in Canada(with an English father) the only team I ever knew and supported was the England national team.

It's Mexico I was taking aim at. They are a hard team to play against and the win at the Azteca will long be remembered.

I hope that win is what this team needed and there's 3 more wins to follow.

I respectfully disagree. Canada have some good individuals in Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David, but as a collective Mexico are a notably better side, and with Mora their future looks pretty bright.

There isn’t much in it these days though, Canada have come on significantly in recent years. That said, there is still a big gap between Canada and Mexico in the FIFA and ELO (which is imo superior) world rankings.

Jiminez is getting on a bit, but is a significantly better player than Larin, I would probably start David over him, but Jiminez has had more of an impact on this tournament than David.

I probably just get tired of being seen as way lesser than our 2 big NA compatriots.

I don't feel like we are massive underdogs when we play the US or Mexico.

I really wanted to face the US in this WC, but that just didn’t work out. Maybe some revenge for hockey in the Olympics ;)

Maybe one day we will have our moment at the Azteca.

Until then....

T’is unfortunate to be without A.Davies for pretty much the entire competition, such a key player. He is, imo, the best individual player of all three of the host nations. No shame in going out to an excellent Morocco side.

So many here don't really know the game and really only get interested when it's the World Cup and more so with us as hosts(if you can even call us that). Which is totally fine and it's great having people show more interest. Hopefully from that some more will follow it beyond the WC and support a local team. We have some here now!

I had to explain to someone that Morocco knocking out Netherlands wasn’t actually an upset.

Argentina struggling again - I reckon we go all the way to the final if we get past Norway, we're better than everyone else in this side of the draw.
