Ultimately, the news being leaked that the club is up for sale is most likely a ploy to increase interest. Should a club be doing that, it probably tells you about the current interest after initial talks.

Citigroup would not leak this information the negative impact on their reputation would be too big a risk. The data has either come from the club - possible, one of the interested parties - risky since they will be under NDA and have exposure or one of Tops circle - most likely. Citigroup group will have quietly marketed then opened a data room to look in detail at the deal finances. This stage is likely to be 2-6 groups at most and under significant NDA and only if Citigroup are confident of financial competency. Pricing will then be discussed on an offer basis after due diligence is completed. Any group will also be testing to ensure there are no likely licensing issues with the new football regulator. If an offer opens it’s at least six months to close possibly longer since the new regulator may not be up to speed. Lawyers will also be assessing the alleged Leeds lawsuit and offers might be conditional on any financial penalty from that remaining with Top. I do not expect anything concrete for sometime.

It’s more likely that some journalists has overheard something in a sauna, I imagine even Dave Fishwick would have known if Leicester City was up for sale before it was leaked to a paper and he’s not even a billionaire.

Two thoughts among many.

 

If we've been up for sale for 2/3 years as has been suggested by some this leak might indicate that we've got someone interested and they want to test the waters of how it might go down.

 

This is all a contingency in case we're heading for Administration either now or fearful that it might happen this season and a sale could prevent us falling into L1 via Administration

I think the fear is, that the players we are selling are balancing the books, rather than making us comply to the rules. 
 

None of us know really what is going on. 
 

We are all just guessing in reality.

 

However King Power are more secretive than MI6, so who knows!

Selling a football club isn’t like flogging a car or a house where you might have someone snap your hand off on day one of you advertising it. If someone is interested in us then we’re unlikely to hear very much about it for some time, and any buyers due diligence is going to take what feels like (to us fans anyway) an eternity. 
 

We will all speculate on here every day for a fair few months and then one day it’ll just be happening. There’s often not a bidding war for a football club unless they’re gone busy and are available for pennies. 
 

I don’t remember there being loads of speculation about King Power buying us back in the day. It just kind of happened (I am old and it was a while ago though so I’m fine to be corrected on that!)

Don't think we still are though when you dig deeper into that data. We missed the boat in terms of absolutely nailing that. However, given the achievements in the modern era, there's definitely no club outside the top 2 tiers (West Ham aside), and the majority of the PL, with that kind of potential.

It seems to be showcasing all our academy players seeing as the 4 biggest clubs in England keep trying to poach them.

We also look to be starting the new campaign with 7 or 8 of them in line to be starting.

5yrs ago most of them would have been 12 so something must happen there.

Seagrave isn’t the issue, it’s the way the club is being ran. Put Brighton at Seagrave and you’d see the benefit.

You could split hairs over it I guess but, that is where we are ranked and like you said at the end, the potential is what is so unique 

 

a Club of our stature in league one is any footballing invested billionaires wet dream as they’d get us on a right deal.
