Burnham's Devolution in practice

LGR hadn't just been rushed in in the last week. It's been a large part of Labour policy right from their manifesto for the last election.

To be honest, both parties have attempted to modernise and re-organise local government areas for decades. It might get politicised in the modern era when people are apparently incapable of working across the aisle and being bipartisan but generally anyone with a brain will agree England needs quite a bit of reorganisation. We have way too much geographical and administrative entities that are shaped by ancient feudal border gore.

Why on Earth do the million or so people that live inside the borders of geographical Leicestershire need a city council, a county council and about a billion different parish, borough and district councils? Why do tax payers need to pay for each of these entities to all have well paid executive officers and overlapping staff when they can be rationalise and managed far more efficiently?

I know people are generally quite change phobic but LGR is pretty sensible at its core.

doubt he'll be Mayor for long after the expansion.

It's already been stated his position will no longer exist after LGR. He knows this.

This government doesn't really want elected mayors, it wants local councils to elect their own leaders to work alongside the apolitical chief execs which is the standard traditional structure. That'll be the case for all councils who don't currently have a mayor and any new councils, which we'll count as being in a way because we'll be inheriting a new area which would make Soulsby's post redundant.

He's obviously free to stand as a councillor in his own right and if the elected councillors want to nominate him he can still be the council leader.

It does baffle me why Top considers selling whilst we’re at our lowest financial worth in a long time. We have a serious chance of promotion this season back to the championship, the toxic players are all leaving, the overly inflated wages are dwindling… Surely wait a season when the club will hopefully be more valuable?

Because Top, by all accounts, only got to where he is because of his dad. He’s empty between his ears, he’s daft and zero business acumen. It’s bad that he lack foresight, understanding of business, it’s worse when he has zero advisors around him that can guide him well. His dad’s passing came too sudden for anyone to have prepared him.

Imagine he got all that he can ever wanted in the world, and he’s barely graduated from a paid-to-certified Bachelor programme, most elites in his ranks would never take a sniff on.

I am actually horrified and devastated that he’s brought Leicester to the low it is today, if I were his dad right now, I would be crying in my grave.

So why did he sign for Villawhen on a free?

Perhaps he didn't want to sign for any of the clubs that tried to sign him in 2022.

He signed for villa because they were the biggest club that wanted him at the time. He turned a move to arsenal down while under contract. So he wanted RM Man U or Barca. But they all knew what an ass he was.

There’s always going to be specific cases. What is undeniable is the sheer volume of players, and therefore the overall amount we purchased them for that walked for free, that we have seen at this club in the past 5 years.

I don’t buy for a second that players like Tielemans, Soyuncu and even Perez for example, wanted to sit around and run their contracts down. Given the volume of them, whilst we cannot know what goes on in each individual players head, it would be an extremely educational assumption to say that the clubs ability to know when to sell, and creating saleable conditions was the problem. By saleable conditions, I mean wages too high, excessive amortisation to clear based on stupid transfer fees we shelled out and even just too high a demands for players in some cases, like Iverson where we basically last £4 million we were offered and let him walk for free the next summer after not even playing for us.

We are led to believe by many defenders of the club, who try to gaslight others into believing there was no interest in these players. Let me ask, how have Aston Villa managed to sell Youri Tielemans for £35 million to Man Utd this summer, when he had one year left on his contract there? And you’d expect me to believe that in 2022, when he had a year left with us, at 4 years younger and heading into his prime, that there was nobody who’d have been interested and given us an amount that would have covered the last year of what we owed on him plus a tidy profit?

Tielemens wanted to screw Rudkin and Top by ensuring the club got no fee. He as either other family minded players were pissed off at Bodgers and Rudkin giving a pass to Maddison, Choudray et over the Covid party. It escalated when Bodgers kept playing him when exhausted even in non entity Carabao Cup games. The camp was fractured so players did not play ball in allowing the club to profit off them. All down to the leadership or lack of it. bodgers and the DOF through the owner messed it all up.

Or maybe we didn’t accept offers in 2022 and when he became available, Arsenal who were interested had other targets? We don’t know do we.

But that does not change the fact is it not normal for so many players to walk on a free. You think they all just loved being at a declining Leicester so much they didn’t want to go and play for CL sides like Arsenal? Come on!

The fact we lost so many on frees still ultimately comes down to an inability to move players on at the right time, whatever the reason might be. Sometimes wages, or the outstanding amount on their fees (both of those because of bad dealings in the first place) or holding out for too much. There might be the odd example where a club did offer a reasonable amount, agreed wages on a par and we accepted. If there is a case, and I highly doubt all of these were the case with Tielemans, there is obviously another reason and maybe that is where your TAA example becomes valid. But it still begs the question why. Why would that player not agree to move if the club had accepted an offer and said ‘look, we need the money’. If an agreed deal goes that far, I’d bet 99.9% of players would leave. So it certainly doesn’t account for all ours, and if there was such an example, there was obviously a reason they were holding on to our detriment as it sure won’t have been love for the club or to do with the direction or ambition of the club!

Well no, if they buy now they don't have a potential league 2 club due to a 12 point points deduction and any other good assets (young players) just sold off.

Depend how much KP wants, They might just want out so not ploughing more money into the club.

No idea how you would know this but interesting insight. Let’s say that is the case, referring to my above reply to Hackney fox about there must be another reason, if this is it, then it is a failing of the club which circles back to my original point.

Whether we offered too high wages, paid a stupid fee for them that other clubs won’t cover, reject reasonable bids out of delusion or had a player wanting to screw the owner and DoF, all of that is a failing of the club to function properly and therefore effectively get players out the door for fees, rather than losing for free and being able to refresh the squad.

Nothing to do with the healthy loyalty bonus or salaries they were on here, plus the signing on fee and wage packet from another club they would receive at a new club by running down their contract?

Administration would probably put us in L2 hardly the best place to buy.

Also, why would we end up in administration? We have owners that continue to write off club losses. We're in no danger as a going concern, even if losses continue.

Because the club can't be competitive unless it finds a way of doing so within PSR, at the moment we're a million miles away from that. The owner can right off as many debts as he likes, but it won't make us competitive. Converting equity won't stop the slide and further points deductions.

Re the Devolution it was meant tongue in cheek as i've heard that so much this week.

I remember when the City and County Councils were merged into one entity from the 1970's to the 1990's and then split again, presumably it didn't work.

PSR has gone now hasn't it? It's all squad cost ratio. Less chance of a points deduction and easier for owner to invest (if he wants to).

Arsenal signed Trossard in the January, who was also going out of contact that summer. That was after we rejected an offer of a similar amount in either the summer or Jan (I forgot which it was)

Did the club announce they had turned down a bid from Arsenal?

We have no idea what happened.

I'm not sure clubs really go about announcing if they have or not till the deal is completed do they?

There was enough paper/agent talk regarding the interest over the summer and January, that you also cannot say they never made an offer.

That's irrelevant to adminstration.

Administration is about our business finances, not our football finances.

Darren trots out every line the media have fed us. Alex Crook has been extremely critical, yet reins it in just so that he can agree with him.

Crap from Talksport.
