It does feel like Fifa arent bothered about a uefa breakway infact they seem to expect it. For them even though if uefa nations walk away losing of course 100 and 100s millions they are set to earn more with this new scheme. So fifa dont lose out.

FIFA don't lose out, until the breakaway competition becomes more popular. 
 

For instance if the South American, African and Asian teams join together to co-ordinate a competition every two years, FifA effectively ceases to exist.

 

Those individual confederations just need to co-exist….

Infantino's little interview is f*cking diabolical. 

Says the fans are the cornerstone then goes on to say more commercialisation is the natural evolution. What fan wants to spend MORE on tickets? To see MORE ads, to have MORE corrupt rule bending. 

None.

It's like anything that America gets it's talons into - it becomes a cash grab.

The issue with American involvement is their hyper-capitalist social structure. They see something popular and consider it in financial, and not cultural, terms. Oh, look, soccer is saleable. How can we maximise advertisement revenue? How can we extract some money from this.

 

It is the issue with their involvement in anything global. Apply it to war, to music, to politics. The bottom line is money with the Americans.

 

THIS ISN'T TO SAY AMERICANS ARE BAD PEOPLE BUT AN OBSERVATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE AMERICAN RULING CLASSES ON THINGS.

 

For someone like Infantino, a more greedy and corrupt version of Blatter, who doesn't seem to have the ethos of sporting competition and football at heart, American and Saudi involvement is the holy grail. A load of cash washing into the sport in exchange for control over the soul of football.

 

It's why I've always been so vocally critical of any advancement towards Americanisation - it only ends one way. Don't think that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhany are ACTUALLY in it for the love of Wrexham. They're just acting. It's all a show. Don't think that the 14+ American owners of Premier League clubs are interested in the heritage and history of English football. They aren't. It's all a show. Don't think that America wanted to hold the World Cup for cultural or sporting reasons. It didn't. 

 

All of it is for money.

 

And before anyone's tempted to point out the obvious - yes I know money is important and plenty of other nations are obsessed. But in America money is THE most important thing. We can still just about hold on to some type of moral compass when it comes to sport across the majority of the rest of the world.

 

Get 'em the **** out of organised sporting events and let them compete in their own closed-shop World Series of sports nobody else plays.

UEFA's statement was bold but any long standing football fan will be cynical and expect a response along the lines of "We reluctantly accept..." .

Surely a boycott would have to include refraining from hosting it, as well as just not participating.

 

That could get particularly messy.

 

 

I'll predict that FIFA will relent on this pretty quickly, everyone will say "but the damage is already done" but then within 6-12 months it'll be straight back to the status quo anyway (whilst they undoubtedly find other ways to get the same outcome). Exactly the same as what happened with the European super league farce.

64 team world cup with no Europe will be interesting. By current world rankings it would mean countries like New Caledonia may get a world cup run.

Take out all UEFA countries and expand the format to 64 teams, you are looking at teams currently in the 150s ranking wise. 

 

New zealand were the lowest this tournament at 83. 

 

Palestine are 95th and could have squeaked it if UEFA wasnt involved this time round. 

 

Tahiti v Suriname in the group stages guys. Im buzzing. 100% heard of Suriname before I started having a browse at this....honest...

Even without UEFA, Infantino has enough votes to be re elected president, so it is a good move to do this, but there's a chance it backfires and the show goes on without UEFA
