Wes Burns signs for Leicester until 2029 - Official

Yes 3 years is not ideal but this could be more about the position we're in rather than us not learning our lesson. 

 

If Burns was getting 1 or 2 year offers in the championship, then to come to L1 we're going to have offer 3 for him to consider it. 

 

If he has a blinder this season (which he should) we would be looking to extend anyway at a start of a Championship campaign...

 

If I'm being super optimistic, it's not out of the realms of possibility that the club has a 3 year plan to get back into the Premier League - promotion this season and then 2 years to throw the kitchen sink at the Championship where we'd then have an out of contract Burns , probably considering retirement having done his bit over the 3 years to get us back to the big time. 

 

It feels different to the BDCR, Ayew signings because it was pretty obvious we were going to get relegated so they should have been offered 1 yr contract to have the honour of playing in the Premier League and fighting for a new contract. 

 

This feels a lot different and could end up working...

The low price tag & him joining after having just renewed his contract makes sense now..

Let's hope they have finally got it right. 

The approach in the championship was fine, it was the approach after Enzo left that did them in. There was no continuity of what kind of worked that season.

As you say, I'm really hoping this is the start of it getting turned around fully.

Agreed and he also seems like a good character, along with Chaplin, and weve desperately lacked good characters around the place. Id imagine both of them would set the standard in training and the younger lads could learn alot from them. The main worry is his injury record but if they both stay fit, Burns and Chaplin will be 2 of the best players in the league.

One of the three seasons that did. One more decent sale within the three years would of given the money to cover that, which they didn't do. 

There was enough players that went for nothing in that time that could have covered it.

 

I was meaning more in the approach to signings and how they signed for positions needed, rather than just because its an available footballer than another club doesn't want.

I don't think anyone would, because those finances obviously mean we'd be spending more in the 2 year scenario.

 

Ultimately we should be signing players like Burns (players aged 30 or more) on this criteria.

 

1. Cheap transfer fee.

2. Cheap wages.

3. 2 years or less contract.

 

We're in the shit financially. I don't think people realise how bad things are (still, which is mad). We are gambling the clubs future on getting out of this league at the first attempt and we'll probably end up in hot water with the EFL again for doing it.

 

Yes Burns will be a good player at this level. Maybe not quite as great as some Ipswich fans might have you believe but still we should be getting 10-15 goal contributions from him. However, we're spending upwards of 3m on him and at the end of that he'll have no sell on fee and we already know his ceiling. Plus he's coming off the back of a really nasty injury and we have all seen with Fofana, Justin, Ricardo, Alves and Braybrooke how long it takes to get over these injuries and that you're never the same.

 

It's just a crazy, unnecessary risk when we already have the likes of Mavididi, Alves, Watson and BDCR who are all at a similar level.

I.e. if someone comes in and matches your wages with a longer contract you can go.

At the time I felt like Coady and Winks were really good statement signings. Both great for leadership of the group and just made the other players and fans feel like we were moving in the right direction again. 

 

But you look at what these kind of signings have cost us long term and how they panned out on the pitch and you think they'd learn a lesson by now. I'd liken the Burns signing more to Reid. 31, knows it's his last big deal before retirement and will almost certainly be of no use to us in his final year.

I thought the signings overall was a good mix, along with loans that fit what was needed for the season. 

 

This season looks to be similar, without the big price tag and far smaller wages. I understand by season three he might not be playing often, but would be a lot easier to move on that someone with 5 million book value and 50k a week.

I think thats probably it.

 

My theory was more "You've been a great servant, we'll renew your contract so your not without a club and can get some Premier League minutes,  but if someone else comes in your free to go"

 

I think him & Ipswich knew he would only get sympathy minutes in the Premier league this season. The contract renewal feels more of a loyalty thing than need.

Your right ,yet another short sighted deal ,but I'd  be surprised if Top, Rudkin,Kingpower etc  will still be here in 3 years ,it'll  be somebody else's problem.
