whilst not at the same level as Man City (approx 50m), should their title win 14/15 be expunged?

This is a key point.  Carragher now weighing in saying that he would feel sorry for the players if the titles were taken away! Why? 

 

As an armchair fan, I remember rumours circulating about massive shirt sponsorship deals which were basically funded by the owners.  And didn't one of the pre-Pep managers (might have even been Pep) say they got two pay packets.  One from the club and another, worth hundreds of thousands per month, from some company where he had to basically attend an online meeting 4 times a year?

 

If I was hearing that with nothing more than a passing interest, I just don't believe people who were there and amongst it had no idea.

 

I have no sympathy for them.  They signed contracts that landed them with generational wealth and were happy to take the money.  Taking their precious titles away?  Cry me a river!

As though Man City's players have got to forget everything they've done in their careers because some dodgy blokes owned the club.

 

I agree if it wasn't for setting a precedent i'd love to see the meltdown of the established elite if the only thing to come out of this was a big old fine and an meaningless points deduction.

I think Chelsea have got off lightly, notwithstanding the admission. You commit murder, but then pop in to your local police station and admit it. Ye, new owners, but Chelsea's an entity.

I also wonder how many other clubs are thinking that goodness we weren't hacked, and there but for the grace of God.

They were miles off the pace in all but one season. A season that they themselves threw away with Gerrard's slip and their implosion at Crystal Palace.

100k a week for a 17 year old in the mid - 2000's?  Multiples above his worth. Whenever i went for a job anywhere i would always asked how the team i was joining was funded. 

 

The players are the biggest cost drain in all of this, and its their cost that teams have either cheated to fund, or have failed ffp for.

 

I don't expect Richards to have much intelligence in the matter, and of course its miles beyond his fault, but a bit of self reflective 'yeah, thinking about it, how did Man City afford to pay over the odds for absolutely everyone, including paying (or offering in his case) teenagers more than anyone else could' would add a lot to his credibility in the matter.  Instead we get a lot of self pity 'I would have died for that club' and 'i had no idea' etc. Surely, anyone there at the time, had to wonder 'how is this all being paid for'?

 only cause he's ex United but still funny none the less.

 

Regarding the players medals I don't think there titles should be took away tbh they was only getting paid to do a job the club should be relegated however to the lowest division possible and be sold off.

I asked Google to produce a similar breakdown of total sponsorship amount by years for Man Utd for the same time period. The amounts it came out with were very close to the Man City amounts. That's the scale of spend that other clubs have to compete against, the vast quantities pumped into glory hunter teams by companies like Adidas, Chevrolet, TeamViewer etc. 

 

The only real financial fair play will be equal salary and transfer spending caps, to let teams compete equally, otherwise finances will dominate everything.

One of Wayne Rooney´s suggestions is a 20-point deduction for EACH of the next 3 seasons.

Their cheating has been proven (subject to appeal!) to have taken place over 9 seasons, so a 20-point deduction for the same number of seasons would be appropriate

35 of the charges were for non compliance between 2018-2023. 
 

So it’s more like 14 seasons. 17 if you include the 3 years it’s taken to get to this point. 
 

20 pts a season would be far too easy for them to overcome.

Going back to 2008/09... everyone got swept away with Man City overspending and they were given the same treatment from the media that Abramovic got at Chelsea.

 

Man City could afford all of that because they had ****ing wealthy owners. There weren't such heavy restrictions on spending back then.
