'White and/or male privilege'

People are ****ing idiots and this phrase is using bounced around by middle/upper class tossers who think they all white males should recognise their privilege despite the not recognising their is a difference between growing up as a wealthy white male with family connections and white males growing up in poverty.

Once had the laziest, most useless, self entitled girl I've ever worked with - someone who consistently rebuffed my attempts to help her improve as a team member when we were on the same level - accuse me of getting a promotion before her because of male privilege. If anything the fact that she got the same pay bump later despite showing no change in attitude or ability speaks to the opposite.

Kwik fit. Developed a bubble in one of my tyres so I didn't want to risk driving it too far and unfortunately they're the closest tyre specialists to me. Knowing them to be rip off merchants I rang yesterday and got a quote for a budget tyre at £48, barely a few quid more than my usual place so I book in. Roll up today and the tyre I was quoted has "been sold today".  They're very sorry but the only other tyres they have are £98. Got him down to 70 after kicking up a fuss, confirmation if ever it were needed to avoid these crooks and go local whenever possible.

'Coingate' - What an ****ing unnecessary overreaction by the FA.

Nigel Owens (rugby ref) has it spot on, albeit the title of the article is a bit click baity:

I don't think it's meant how you interpret it.

I grew up in relative poverty but I was never refused a job or promotion due to my gender or the colour of my skin.

Nor was the useless twunt in question. I think it's too often an easy cop out to say "he only got that because male privilege" instead of looking at the reality of job worthiness and the percentage of males vs females applying.

I didn't mean in your specific case, mate, but - historically, at least - the 'glass ceiling' for women was very real. Many would argue it still is.

The Iceland Xmas advert being banned.

Yeah, let's turn a blind eye to what humans often do to their environment. (Unless someone is playing a blinder by using the Streisand Effect here.)

Not really Christmas related though is it? Seems like good PR to me. No doubt the publicity their getting on this will help them sell a few more frozen sausage rolls.

It's ridiculous, really. Sure, it's a rule that should be followed and he made a mistake, but to be charged with 'not acting in the best interests of the game' makes no sense whatsoever, let alone the severity of the punishment.

If anything, pausing the match (which I think was televised) whilst he went back in to get the coin would have been far worse for the 'interests of the game' than his quick-thinking solution which kept everything moving as expected. Both of the captains involved seemed happy with the solution, so why does it need to be taken any further than that?

The FA seemingly don't care how rules are (in)consistently upheld by referees in matches, which often decides results one way or another, yet the rules for referees seemingly have no leeway whatsoever.

(This may have been covered in the second article you linked, but I can't get on the site at work...)

Well yeah, tbh I floated the idea that this was a sneakier way of getting publicity through the Streisand Effect in the OP. Smart.

lol how long would it seriously have taken for someone to go and get the coin from his dressing room? They've got mics on he could have asked the assistant on that touchline to ask someone to run down the tunnel and get it. Probably would have taken less than a minute. It's not as if he'd have had to call off the match.

Or just borrow one from someone in the crowd.

anyone would of probably had a spare coin on them to use, it would have been a lot funnier if instead of doing rock, paper scissors he did rock, paper, scissors, lizard, spock.

I’d understand the upset if that ref had suggested cock, paper, scissors

If the referee was Nigel Owens I think we would all know his choice as well.
