shen Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 We're not going to sign Elmander! Come on people. Of course not, he's too good. But MPH seems to think he's not good enough!
Finnegan Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Obviously I'm biased but as long as we're not paying three, four, five million for him then I generally think it's a pretty good signing. We don't have a forward line, at all, we're obviously going to need to sign more than one and I don't think that bringing in Evans discounts us from re-signing Yakubu, Kamara or a player of similar quality. I don't think you can hold a player unaccountable for a relegation but I also think (and Matty Fryatt is great proof of this) that a goalscoring striker (which Ched Evans is) needs to be playing in a reasonable side if he's going to perform. Sheff United have been utterly horrible over the last year and, as pointed out earlier in the thread, most of us would have bitten their hands off if we were offered Evans for twice the price being quoted here if we were asked a year or so ago. He's no less a player now. If we've even a third of the money we're supposed to have then I think this is a bargain, honestly, given the current value of tidy young players. Anyone underwhelmed needs to regain a little bit of perspective, we clearly aren't going to be signing a team full of Premiership talent that just needs to reinvigorate themselves a la Yak. Evans is better than any striker, Fryatt aside, we've actually owned at the club - long term - in a very long time. Oh and pardon the quality.
The Doctor Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 SPECIFICALLY FOR MPH Id just like to share some of the opinions of the Sheffield United fans on Ched Evans if youd care to listen: 'I'd take ten bob for him, he's been totally crap' (tro11) 'Il introduce myself with this. I will drive ched evens there if it means he doesnt have to put on a blades shirt ever again. What a waste of time money and effort he was. Jamie ward was a better player for me' (S2blade) 'I would snatch their hand off. Ched has shown signs of improvement recently but a million quid would be far more than I would expect us to get for him.' 'He has been utter rubbish for us, so on yer bike feller. No balls No brain useless lump of turd' (Kenilworth) 'He wouldn't be suited to League 1' (TopBoy) 'Evans looked out of his depth in the Championship. He's paid far too much money for what he could possibly offer, let alone what he actually will or has so far.' (alcoblade) 'if he goes on a free it will still be very good business.' (alcoblade) 'Sell Sell Sell!' (TheOne). 'Good riddance to overpaid rubbish' (CresswellBlade) Taken from s24su forum. Clearly a player adored by the blades fans who are gutted to be seeing him leave. 1) - If s24su is anything like here there are a fair few 'tards littering the forum with bullshit (witness the ricardo - flapping bollocks of a couple of months back) 2) - Akinbiyi & Campbell were both absolutely gash here and yet have done well at other clubs, why couldn't evans do a similar thing? What's a WUM? Wind Up Merchant.
Babylon Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Gotta love Donut. Hindsight is a wonderful thing you know, unfortunately managers don't have use of it when signing players like you do. You mention bargains to be had and of course there are, but for every rough diamond that turns out to be a gem, there is a Kermorgant, Junior Lewis etc. For every expensive flop like Trevor Benjamin and DJ Campbell (for lcfc). There is a DJ Campbell (Blackpool), or Steve Claridge. For every aging premier league player like the ones your mention, somtimes there is a Paul Merson (Portsmouth), Sometimes a Martin Keown. How about we a) wait for him to sign b) see who else signs so we can judge his squad position c) wait and see how he actually plays.

Trust Babylon to come out with 'all the sense' I preferred the unmeasured posting of speculative handbag duckers.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 8 pages of bitching and it turns out we have not even made a bid yet... Patience in the Transfer Market
Itsthejoeker Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 8 pages of bitching and it turns out we have not even made a bid yet... Patience in the Transfer Market I'm confused now, I thought he said he's going to get all his business done early?
Ric Flair Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 I'm confused now, I thought he said he's going to get all his business done early? I think this article is a non-story. He says he wants to get his signings in sooner, rather than later but isn't going to rush in to signing players willy nilly. So, basically if the right players are available early on he'll dip and if they aren't then he'll wait and probably panic buy later. Saddle up.
millzi Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Why on Earth is Johan Elmander even being mentioned in this!? He's agreed a contract with Galatasaray (which looking at it, I don't think I've ever seen a word with so many A's in it)..
norfolkfox222 Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Dont shoot me dont cos i have no sauce etc blah blah, however I know a blades fan whos suggested that Tom Kennedy and DNG are going in the other direction as part of the deal??? He also says we are welcome to Shed Evans .....

Dan Posted 27 May 2011 Posted 27 May 2011 'kinell... Show me where a) Ricardo Fuller has indicated that he wants to come to City and b) when Stoke are gonna let him come here. Let's face it, we can only sign players who are out of contract and/or who want to come to us. Unfortunately, that means that 90% of players are unavailable to us. For what its worth, Ched Evans is only 22, has scored goals and will likely to be hungry to prove himself after being in a relegation squad last year. All those saying "why can't we get Kris Commons for 300k, Sven is a nobber". Are you being serious? I think Celtic might just, just JUST have a tiny bit more pulling power than us. I didn't even say Fuller was coming here. He's not getting in Stoke's side, he's out of contract, so would they let him? Of course.
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3631213/Blades-to-get-rid-of-treasure-Ched.html Would be disaterous if this happened imagine instead of Yak and Maynard we get Nugent and Evans! It is the Sun so its not a reliable source but not good to be linked with someone like this!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Sheffield United’s Ched Evans is said to be speaking to the Blues and Leicester City regarding a £1.2 million switch with the Blades having been relegated to League One. http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=18567

As he would be another 3rd rate option, we could not hope to get promotion with kind of player.
dannythefox Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 We do not want Ched Evans, we already have a player that struggles to get 15mins a game thats better than him called Waghorn!!!
Clazie Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 We do not want Ched Evans, we already have a player that struggles to get 15mins a game thats better than him called Waghorn!!! I don't get the obsession with Waghorn. Very average.
Jimmy Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Ched Evans as a replacement for Steve Howard wouldn't be a bad signing
MGLCFC Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Again it is a player Erisson has worked closely with at Man. City and if we do buy him, I suppose Sven knows what he is getting. Whilst this doesn't fill me with enthusiasm, I trust the manager's judgement. Eriksson ooops
Kitchandro Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 I don't get the obsession with Waghorn. Very average. Then how bad does that make Evans??? Waghorn is better from any way of looking at it.
Haydos Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Then how bad does that make Evans??? Waghorn is better from any way of looking at it.
Hack Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Again it is a player Erisson has worked closely with at Man. City and if we do buy him, I suppose Sven knows what he is getting. Whilst this doesn't fill me with enthusiasm, I trust the manager's judgement. Eriksson ooops I would of thought that it may be a choice of Evans or Nugent, with a Yak/Heskey/Kamara as the main target man. I don't believe that Evan and Nugent is the likely stike pairing.
Finnegan Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 Then how bad does that make Evans??? Waghorn is better from any way of looking at it. Uhm, how many times have you seen Ched Evans play? And Ched Evans is not a replacement for Steve Howard, he's not really some big unit. He's not the fastest and not the strongest. Think Matty Fryatt with a bit more flair.
Father Ted Posted 11 June 2011 Posted 11 June 2011 £20k a week for someone to partner Crncic in the reserves? No thanks. Uhm, how many times have you seen Ched Evans play? And Ched Evans is not a replacement for Steve Howard, he's not really some big unit. He's not the fastest and not the strongest. Think Matty Fryatt with a bit more flair. So you're saying Ched Evans is better than Fryatt? You're an idiot.
