The "do they mean us?" thread

Does make me laugh how the media seem to think a club that dominated the championship last year are going to struggle, but a team that were pretty lucky to even scrape the play offs are nailed on to stay up, just because they have more players people have heard of.

Some of these ignorant opinions make me laugh.

But when/if we do well they'll soon start yawping on about how 'they were always going to do well' or 'you could see from last season that they were suited to the Premier League'.

I didn't take much notice to the media in the Championship but i'll try to totally ignore it in the Premier League. Full of money whoring ex-players who think they've got a divine right to splurge their thoughts. Annoys me that ex-pros are ignoring the development of the game and refusing to use their actual 'talent' to help that through coaching because Sky can offer them so much.

Why not, a lot of our fans think the same...

Personally don't care what the experts say about us. If they were that good they would all have top points in the dream teams and win the football pools every week. They can have there opinion but most know fvck all about us. They should all be man enough and admit that.

dont know if this has already been posted... Guardian reckon a 17th position finish. I'd take that!

They will still bring a certain swagger to proceedings, playing fast-paced, free-flowing, pass-heavy football. Plenty of the players have already said they feel confident and that will be boosted by the backing shown to Pearson. He and his assistant managers were handed new three-year deals in the summer.

But I thought we were set piece specialists solid at the back and play direct football?

Worryingly disparaging about Albrighton, Upson and Ulloa, but a fair write up.

I just really want the season to start now sick of all this speculation over how we will do, I just want to see how we get on...

That video was a bit weird. Why did they show some Ipswich players in the middle of it and I like Pearson as much as the next man but the way the journalist was talking about him was more than a little bit creepy.

Leonardo Ulloa (Leicester)

The task for a newly-promoted side is always to lure in the sort of quality that can consolidate their position in the league. Leicester's expensive splurge on Leonardo Ulloa can be seen as a real risk, with £7m in all likelihood taking a significant chunk out of their transfer budget. In his 18 months on the South Coast the burly front man certainly became a Brighton fan favourite but at 28, his lack of experience at the very top level is a concern.

He's a hard worker from the front, earning a strength of 'defensive contribution' from WhoScored.com courtesy of 0.9 tackles per game, but his strike rate is certainly not the best. A respectable tally of 14 last season came from 87 shots (16.1% conversion rate) and only two players missed more clear cut chances in the Championship last season (16). Leicester's desire to add to their strike force was understandable given top scorer David Nugent's record at top-flight level but their choice of reinforcement is questionable.

One of the comments from a Sheep fan nails it.

They might take a little while to find their feet, but I reckon they'll pull clear - maybe significantly so - by the end of the season. What impressed me the most about them last year was their ruthlessness and professionality. Even when they were comfortably clear of everyone else they kept winning games and didn't drop points against the weaker teams. I don't know if they'll upset too many of the big boys but in an even fight - which a lot of their games against teams from 10th or so down will be - I'd expect them to do well.

I love how they say they were "clear cut" chances, the stats don't really say that do they. The shots could have been from 30 bloody yards every time.

The shots on/off target stat. is completely misleading ad you suggest.

That's a fair write-up though not without its errors in my opinion. I think they're being harsh on Albrighton, and Ulloa DOES have top flight experience, just not in England.

Good article that. Reads well, though I'm sure some of the know-it-alls will find fault somewhere.

Do I think we can finish 17th? Again, I have no idea. However, with the lack of strength in depth, im starting to think we may struggle.

With the rumours of Esteban Cambassio I reckon Leicester have a likely chance of finishing higher than 17th.

According to the metro they may be offering him 5mil over a 2year contract.

Here is the more detailed article on the rumour, Tottenham and Westham have believe to be after him to?, sounds promising doesn't it.

Where's the updated part of this? It's citing the Mirror.

Sorry, not updated but more detailed on why Leicester have a more likely chance of signing him over WestHam and Tottenham. The mirror didn't say anything about Tottenham trying to sign him. But thank you my mistake.
