cc_star Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 In different circumstances he'd be awesome in a 4411 playing behind front man, dinking balls through to him, he'd also be central and at a reasonable distance from goal for his long range bullets. His goals per shot is the best at the club & being more central will mean he gets more shots. Defensively that position only requires you to press & pressure opposing CBs from bringing the ball out which he can do... Unlike the wideman in a 442 you don't need to be running up & down the wing chasing fullbacks & that is a position which requires tackling. NP obviously likes a 442 though & when he needs to change it we go to 451 or 433 depending if we're winning or losing.

I think we might have seen this if only we'd had a shortage of strikers and not wingers. If Beckford or Nugent had been unavailable when Waghorn and Vassell were both out, and Dyer, Gallagher and Marshall had all been fit, then I think we might have seen 4-4-1-1.
Captain... Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 I can see him go back to Blackburn now they have gone down. Would be best for him too after what has happened recently. Close to home and loves the club and I am sure they will lose a few players in the summer who will need to be replaced. Swap him for Yakubu!!! Interesting point about Dyer too, I think the difference is that you always see Dyer playing a role, he hugs the touch line, runs at people and gets back. He is a one dimensional player, but one that everyone understands. Gallagher isn't, he isn't a wide player, nor a striker, nor a central midifelder, so when he is not banging in screamers, people don't know what he is doing. Even if Dyer is having a poor game you see him doing his job, out wide getting up and down.
RowlattsFox Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 I agree. I think we might have seen this if only we'd had a shortage of strikers and not wingers. If Beckford or Nugent had been unavailable when Waghorn and Vassell were both out, and Dyer, Gallagher and Marshall had all been fit, then I think we might have seen 4-4-1-1. If that was the case then I'd imagine it would have been Marshall playing in the hole, and not Gallagher. I would say we played this formation anyway, but calling 4-3-3 instead, not much difference in my opinion. In the modern game it appears you need to be either strong or quick to really be successful, if your strong you can get away with a lack of pace and if your quick you can get away with being weak. Unfortunately for Gallagher he lacks in both departments. This is a reason why Dyer escapes criticism, his pace can make him look like he's having an impact. I think he's alright though and I wouldn't be bothered if he's in the squad, I do think his technical ability is over-rated a touch, he is good when he's got time on the ball or time to control it.
dannythefox Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 If we could get anything near 750k for him I'd take that he's not a starting eleven player any more and we need to move on from Pearson's old favourites!
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Jesus.. We would never get a winger who was great every single game, players like that play in the premiership and not for little old leicester. premier league* Not seen Ben Marshall really have a bad game yet Gallagher isn't really a winger IMO.
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Hopefully not true. Hopefully completely true.
Danno Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Not seen Ben Marshall really have a bad game yet Gallagher isn't really a winger IMO. Really? Was woeful against Cov and distinctly average against Derby and others.
Adster Posted 9 May 2012 Posted 9 May 2012 Not seen Ben Marshall really have a bad game yet Gallagher isn't really a winger IMO. Don't you go most away games as well as all the home games? If you'd of been paying attention properly you'd of seen minimal 3 games where Marshall has been woeful, examples being said above.

I go mostly all away games, I like Marshall, he's good and has potential. Gallagher needs to go, he has done alright for us but it is time to move on and get a more stronger midfield
Danno Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Would still keep him if we got offered any less than 800K
Fox 4 Life Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Would still keep him if we got offered any less than 800K Because that extra 50k will make so much difference!
bradley_19 Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 worth a million surely, he scored 10 goals this season but im i think time to get rid as we do need an all out winger with pace!!
ealingfox Posted 10 May 2012 Posted 10 May 2012 Because that extra 50k will make so much difference! Although you're right, really shows how crazy the modern game has become when one can laugh about the significance of that much money. FIFTY GRAND!
Happy Fox Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 http://www.greenun24.co.uk:80/ipswich-town/transfer_latest_ipswich_town_have_enquired_about_leicester_city_winger_paul_gallagher_1_1381307? IPSWICH Town have made an enquiry about Leicester City wideman Paul Gallagher. On the face of it a deal looks unlikely. The 27-year-old still has three years left on his contract at the King Power Stadium and has been a regular since manager Nigel Pearson – the man who brought him to the Foxes from Blackburn – returned to the club. The EADT understands that Blues boss Paul Jewell sees the versatile Scotsman – capable of playing on the left, right and up front – as the perfect player to provide an extra creative spark next season. However, a source close to the player has told the EADT that “he would consider a new challenge”, while it’s understood that a bid around the £750,000 mark could tempt his employers to sell. The Glasgow-born player suffered tragedy recently when his wife Hayley gave birth to twins more than a month prematurely. Son Luca James died, while his daughter Ava Amelie is improving following a worrying spell in intensive care. He is currently back at his family home in Blackburn – the town he grew up in – with Ipswich having gone no further than an enquiry at this sensitive time.

Really hope this (or something similar) happens ! I know this (Ipswich) story appeared a few weeks ago - but then it all went very quiet. I hope they're still interested. Didn't someone on here speculate that Palace were also looking at him ? Only trouble is, he lives near Blackburn - and both those clubs are in the south - I guess he'd prefer a North West move, if there is one (especially with the family stuff). Still, beggars can't be choosers - and even he might realise that Championship football can't be guaranteed for someone with his limitations - he might have to take what's on offer ! If Pearson DOES sell, my estimate of HIS worth goes up - I thought he and Gallagher had a bit of a 'love tryst' going (there could be no other reason for picking him again and again !).
ithuriel Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 Supposed to be a good character to have in the dressing room and can be a very good player on his day. I'd prefer to have hin in the squad even if he is only going to make the bench as a sub or to cover for injuries but if Nigel decides he needs to move on then fair enough.
Lambert09 Posted 18 May 2012 Posted 18 May 2012 The problem with Gally is nobody knows where he plays, not even him. He isnt quick enough for a winger. He cant defend well enough for RM and he isnt a striker due to lack of pace, strength and holding play. Technically he can be fantastic...but where can you play him. For me the answer has always been simple....just behind the strikers in a free role (similar to Van de vart) However, playing him in midfield every game due to his faults gives us the inconsistency that frustrates the fans so much. Which is the same as my affection for him, I go from love to loathe on a game to game basis.... I hope he leaves and finds his feet at a smaller club who will be happy for the occasional glimpse of class, because as a club we are better than that now.
Guest Col city fan Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 Gally can be immense..... He can also be utterly shite...... God knows we need consistently good players.... 750k? I'd snap their arms off....
Bettsj2 Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 No thanks. He's not first team material but I doubt you'll find someone of equal quality that would come and sit on the bench and even if you could, what would be the point in getting rid and introducing a new face? He's well liked in the squad so keep him.
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 Gally can be immense..... He can also be utterly shite...... God knows we need consistently good players.... 750k? I'd snap their arms off.... Totally agree.
MGLCFC Posted 19 May 2012 Posted 19 May 2012 1 in 5 good games isn't good enough. The problem for me is that Gally is decent against teams that want to play open football. Unfortunately in this league there are a fair few teams that want to play it ugly and will fight tooth and nail for every ball and when we come up against these teams unfortunately Gally is often found wanting. Pearson quite rightly pointed out at the end of last season that we needed to be tougher next season - to me that signalled the end for Gally. So for £750000 I'd say take the money.
