Gallagher off to Ipswich?

Recommended Posts

...and goals, to be honest I wouldn't let him take corners, and only the odd freekick, I think if he stopped fvcking up set-pieces people might remember his other contributions to the game more and not get so pissed off with him.

Goals which could be replaced. The thing is though, I rarley see him contribute. The amount of times I see him back out of tackles, or not beat players, or come inside, or not win a header etc

We could find a player for that amount who would fit the formation NP sets out i.e a winger, tbh it would be no loss at all imo, unless we change our formation to accommodate Gallagher cannot see that happening as NP is a 4-4-2 man.

The question is does he want to go. And I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

As has been said we got him for £1m and he's contributed well in hiis time here, more so in his first 2 seasons when he was a key player. £750K would be a crap price considering, but if he wants to go we might not be in a position to negotiate too much. Pearson won't want anyone who doesn't want to be here.

This season he's not been good enough overall and I'd like to think we can do better in the first 11. However if it was up to me I'd keep him as he is good enough for our squad.

I'll drive him there myself! Wont go up for headers pussies out of 50/50s and an absolute pansey! Ok he might be able to score the odd free kick once in a blue moon and score a long ranger from time to time but you need more than that from a player!. Hope and pray this is true!

Beckford (if he stays) - he took them at Leeds

Konchesky

Marshall

Unlike American Football where you can bring on a specialised field kicker, unfortunately Gallagher has little else to offer than he is a reliable penalty taker. However, you can't pick a player on the off chance we might get a penalty.

So who in the current squad would you want to take our penalties ??

So you are suggesting we shouldn't sell him, or not play him, because he is a decent penalty taker? Gallagher offers very little apart from the reliable penalty taker in the team, even though we don't get that many anyway!

And I believe Konchesky, St Ledger, Vassell, Beckford, Danns and Kennedy all scored penalties at their previous club(s), whilst Waghorn and Wellens have scored penalties for Leicester before.

Wouldn't be too fussed if he stayed or if he went. He's served us well with good goals and assists returns but equally has his poor games. I am not joking but I actually would just play him at home and when we're away leave him at home. He seems almost a completely different player when we're away.

I'd sell for that amount.

Gallagher is technically very gifted but he's a bit of an awkward one in that he's one of those players who still doesn't really have a true position. He doesn't score enough or work hard enough to be an out-and-out striker, yet defensively he's too weak on the wing.

The upshot is that he's very much a luxury. If you're at home against weaker opposition he'll win you the game single-handedly sometimes, if you're playing away then you have to carry him. If there's one lesson Pearson should have learned this year it's not to start Gallagher away from home, him starting away at Millwall was destined to be disastrous and so it proved.

So, for me, he's therefore expendible. Particularly when we've shown too much defensive frailty all-round this season.

Maybe The People might not be the most reliable of sources, and maybe he won't be going to Ipswich, but this is the time of year that agents earn their money and if Gallagher wants to leave (which I suspect he might) then his agent will be wanting to get his name out there. The link with Ipswich is plausible and it puts Gallagher in the thoughts of other clubs that might want to acquire his services.

I'm sure that was said when he first arrived. I always wondered whether he would be best suited in a Teddy Sheringham role, but (a) would that fit any system NFP wanted to play (b) he lacks heading ability. Maybe, at the end of the day, he is lacking in too many areas of matchplay in spite of his great technical ability. One conundrum is why such a good dead ball kicker, so good with free kicks, is so awful at taking corners. Anyway, back to the subject. I agree with those who think he is just about worth keeping as a squad player, but if he wants to go, for whatever reason, then he should be allowed to go. I would hope to get more that 750K.

Definitely think he's worth the full million still, if not a little more. Although he chips in with enough goals and top-quality moments and that, I nearly explode with anger whenever I watch him play because of the lack of effort in tackles and tracking back. His corners are also sub-par.

That said, if we do sell him we really ought to put an agreement in the contract that he can't play against us because he will inevitably score against us every time and will definitely rub it in majorly. As Toffee said earlier though, can't see him uprooting his family considering the circumstances so Ipswich probably out of the equation.

Why would any club pay nearly a million pounds for a player and accept a clause like that?

I remember when he scored a hat-trick against Scunthorpe in a 5-1 win at home, he played amazingly and scored a wonderful backwards header.

Yeah, it was the only header he won all season too. ;)

Seriously speaking, it'll be a shame if he does go. He's been hit and miss this year and yet still picked up double figures for goals and scored what the fans on here seem to agree was the real goal of the season? His corners need a lot of work to be honest, but I can't fault the rest of his set plays. From what i pick up, he's a popular team mate too, though that's purely assumption-based.
