I'm a little disappointed by that weapon that the android uses to subdue the alien.

This predates Ripley and a means of stunning the beast makes no sense.

It is very good watching, that aside.

To be fair, it was an expedition to collect  alien life forms, they were bound to have weapons of various types on board the ship.

They missed a great show really in following the expedition to collect the life forms, then follow it up with this.

Yeah but the core principle of the Alien is that it cannot be subdued. The only option is to kill it.

In the original movie a storyboard was cut for time and money where the Alien was caught in the airlock by Parker, it lost its hand and ran, the hand growing back later. You can find deleted scenes online from this though I think it was left in the original novel which I used to have.

In Aliens the Queen tells her guard to back away when Ripley aims her flame thrower at her eggs.

There is nothing to say in any of the movies the alien can not be subdued or controlled, if you can kill a creature you can also subdue a creature, you just have to know how and in this story the cyborg knows how.

the new series of Dexter is superb. I had my reservations about it especially how the last series ended but this one is back to its best.

It really has excelled itself, writing and cast have been superb ,unfortunately i feel its not going to end well for one of the old cast...

Landman is very good.

Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Lioness, Tusla King, Sicario (film I know).

Taylor Sheridan knows what he’s doing.

I would certainly add Major of Kingstown (starring Hawkeye) to that Sheridan list its supurb.

As an aside S2 of Tulsa King was to cheesy with virtually every scene having to end with some false laughter, he'll need to pull it out the bag to drag me back for a S3.

Alien Earth, just some thoughts.

Was watching the first episode again after watching ep.3.

This has huge Bladerunner vibes, me thinks its true whats said, its a shared universe.

Morrow the android said he thought the 65 year mission was  sabotaged.

How would the crew on the Maginot know about Prodigy and Boy Cavalier with being on a 65 year mission so  far from Earth with the guy being about the same age as the hybrids and whats with the constant burn area in the base on the island needing constant spraying?

Boy Cavalier is Peter Pan, he never grows up?

I've a feeling the old guy who watches over the facility and Boy Cavalier is not all he seems.

The fifth Alien species, have we seen  it yet?

Wendy can hear the Xeno's  and what with the eggs being grouped where they were and the skin on the ground, perhaps there was  more than one?

Destination X is a bit stupid isn't it. Thought it'd be about guessing locations in Europe but it's just a bunch of unpleasant, quite dim people doing 'challenges' that increasingly have nothing to do with geography. Most of the clues are either really easy or seemingly wrong, like the one about Dalmatia last night.

Certainly hasn’t lived up to the promise. The Venice episode was completely tepid TV, the travel is interesting dynamic and not remembering what colour somebody’s shoes were.

The Brummie girl is a shit-stirring twat

Yeah she's awful. These people seem to forget they are on TV, splashed all over social media, and their behaviour is now forever preserved on the screen.

Quite liked the first one, but I wonder if the producers decided it was too difficult because since then it's basically deteriorated into 'win a stupid game and we'll show you a really obvious clue for where it is'.

They’ve really underexplored the edge case places, like you’ve said they did Alsace but not Südtirol and Romansh speaking parts of Switzerland etc.

I suppose if you pick contestants that are too clued up it makes for bad TV

Never realised until today that the old guy in Alien Earth is Ade Edmondson, ep.4 should be interesting to see where this is actually going.

I spotted him straight away!

I'm not a massive horror fan but Alien Earth has been really good. Sets a nice creepy atmosphere at all times.

I think for a lot of people horror is about gore and violence, but for me it's about tension and threat. The assailant you can't see coming is far scarier than the one that splatters blood everywhere.

Absolutely. And jump scares are the worst and laziest scare tactic of all time.

Wayland-Yutani and Tyrell Corp are amalgamous.

Watched the first two episodes, here's a few thoughts...

Hyper intelligent people in sci-fi will only ever be as intelligent as the writer, fact. It's a very tricky path to trade.

Not only, but also ... I does fall into the old horror trope of supposedly intelligent people doing really stupid things in order to create tension.

I think the acting is good though and the story is intriguing, if sometimes a little obvious.

Two things I did like. First (and this follows from some of the other Alien films) if you're paying attention, you can spot the alien, it doesn't just appear out of nowhere (as many monster movies/shows do).

Second, the Maginot. I'm pretty sure this is deliberate in its irony. The Maginot Line was considered the ultimate defence of it's time, a peak of invention and ingenuity, and yet it was completely disaster. Genius, if deliberate.

Last thing and I don't know how to hide spoilers so look away unless you've seen episode 1, though you'll probably have seen this in the trailers though....

The Maginot's crash, which apparently took them all by surprise. Even with today's technology we'd know exactly where it was going to hit, probably days in advance. I've no idea why they did it as they did.

when the ship collided with the space station/ship it would have thrown it off course and with no one alive on the bridge, it could not be corrected. So near to landing too, predicting exactly where it crashed would be a bit difficult.  Seems the spoiler tags went a bit haywire XD
