Not seen Vigil yet, was planning to binge on catch up. I’m guessing it isn’t quite Line of Duty then?

No. Absolutely not. Quite corny and predictable in many ways. Don't get me wrong it's watchable and the CGI and the submarine sets (I imagine those were filmed on a real submarine) are quite impressive for TV but the plotline is a bit... well you need to suspend disbelief quite a bit. Oh, and the flashbacks to the relationship between the 2 female cops is unnecessary imo. We got it after the first couple of scenes. Nothing to see here.

And no one says "Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey".

Motivated by mentions here, I watched Help last night. Jodie Comer is indeed very good, and the movie is well worth a watch.

For me, (and I emphasis 'for me') a couple of things would have made it work better;

- I found it a tad too sentimental. For me, comparative easy targets need to offer more than moral commentary. We all know the killing baby seals is horrid, say more than that.

- if it wasn't set in Liverpool. After all, it could have been anywhere. Again for me, the 'scouse trope' has become close to cliche. Perhaps it's due to too much Bleasdale/McGovern for me in the past, but I can find myself reacting to that. 'Help' would have had an equally powerful message set anywhere.

As I say, personal opinions that don't detract from it being overall a damned good, and moving, watch.

I do like Stephen Graham; there's something 'less is more' about his acting.

Halfway through Midnight Mass at the moment. Like it a lot more than Bly Manor at the moment, although Bly went hugely off the rails in the final third so I'm still waiting to see if this nose dives.

Enjoying it. You can really see Flanagan's Stephen King fandom in this and I think that's a good thing. It feels massively like a King novel in its aesthetic and atmosphere. One in particular.

Salem's Lot.

Started this last night and watched 3 episodes, very good and have to agree with the similarities to the novel you refer to …

Watched the first episode last night, enjoyed it and will carry on later I think.

Zach Gilford is always Matt Saracen to me though which makes it difficult.

Just finished Manhunt, brilliant series. Martin Clunes was fantastic.

Heard about this.

Not a fan of Clunes but might give it a go

Halfway through Squid Game and the intrigue just keeps building.

Finished it last night. Thought it was a fantastic series and definitely lived up to the hype.

Watched the first 2 episode of When The Dust Settles (on demand, channel 4) by Walter Presents

I'm tired of most Scandi Noir despite being a massive Scandiphile, so this Danish series is a breath of fresh air, and absolutely fecking brilliant (so far)

I love the film battle Royale and also enjoy the genre a lot in gaming and squid game should have been right up my street. I did enjoy it but think the praise it's getting is hugely overblown I'd give it maybe a 6.5/10 just never fully grabbed me but fair enough to the people who love it each to their own.

Currently about half way through season 8 of x files and it baffles me how it still seems so fresh and the quality is still so high after some 200 or so episodes. Don't know what I'm going to do when I finally make my way to the end.

I won't let my 12 or 15 year old watch it - it's hardly suitable for kids!

(but apparently it's all over Tick Tock so they've probably seen most of it anyway )

Because I trust her.

Like you say who k ows what our kids watch on the web, we cant be there 24/7 to review.

Its probably  the kids who are categorically  refrained from watching stuff who end up being deprived (probably!)

Ease up grandad, if they have a smart phone and internet access a bit of Netflix is the least of your worries

Honestly can't even get excited for it. With the complete lack of respect showed to the final seasons of GoT I can't see the spinoff somehow being different.

Same here. It just looks pretty average.

I'll still watch it though.
