Filbert_Ross Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Confirmed as the new man Southampton FC â€@officialsaints Southampton Football Club has appointed Mauricio Pochettino as First Team Manager having relieved Nigel Adkins of his duties. #saintsfc swift, they didnt mess about did they.
linemakers Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Didn't think he was doing to badly 5 from bottom after shaky start
davieG Posted 18 January 2013 Author Posted 18 January 2013 Makes me sick teams doing that to a manager who did so much for them. I wanted them to stay up, now I hope they get relegated and piss off back to league one. Problem is I can see our bloody owners doing exactly the same if we ever got there Times like this I really despise football.
Guesty Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Ridiculous! 2 consecutive promotions, 15th in the league and just had a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. I hope this decision completley backfires, ruins team morale and they go down. It's not even like the fans were calling for his head - they realised what a good job he'd done.
MC Prussian Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 rumours that Adkins been sacked, would be very harsh if true i think. Just as the Southampton train was about to gain momentum. Great timing to sack a manager who brought the club back to the Premier League all the way up from League One. Fickle football, eh?
breadandcheese Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Times like this I really despise football. Agree completely, but turn my hate to the owners of football clubs.
ScouseFox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 I could maybe understand if he'd got them up 2 divisions but they were rock bottom without a good result in ages and clearly the Premier League was a step too far for the manager. They've just drawn 2-2 after being 2 down at the European Champions, as well as being in pretty good form of late, just 2 defeats in 10 and clear of the relegation zone. Madness.
Fox in the North Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Gutted for Adkins, deserved better than that after what he did!
Swarles Barkley Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Ridiculous decision but shouldnt really say much as that could easily be us Next year
goose2010 Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 doing a good job at saints really, they were unlucky with their fixtures at the start of the season and nearly pulled off a few cracking results, crazy times in football management. Cant see him being out of work long.
chrishlcfc Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Awful decision another manager who has done a superb job, maybe too well getting 2 promotions in 2 years. Then they have made a decent start in the prem and he gets sacked. football is mad sometimes.
Grey Fox Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 When will owners ever learn that it's stability that brings success in football! I thought they might just about stay up had they kept him. Now I think they are almost certain to go down. I hope they do as well now.
AdamN Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Southampton fans not happy http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?42459-Adkins-SACKED-OFFICAL!!!!! And rightly so. It really is beyond me how stupid some owners can be. I can only hope that we've got a couple of good eggs running the show...
Corky Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Bizarre, given his previous seasons and that they are relatively comfortable in the table, whilst in decent form for that position. Think this could backfire, but Adkins will be in demand given his record as a manager.
Captain... Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Shocking decision, hope it bites them in the ass in the same way QPR went backwards after sacking Warnock, and going further back Derby sacking Billy Davies. Just clueless really they are doing better than many expected, surely the remit for this season was survival, so far they are surviving, in no other job would you get sacked when on course to hit your targets. Football in this country really is becoming a joke, and they have replaced him with who exactly? A man with no first hand experience of this country or the league, he will need time to adjust and the players to adjust to him, and he has no time to assess his squad and improve it. Utterly shocking decision.
hebangsthedrums Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Disgrace. Earned the right to a full season in Prem, looked like they might crack on now anyway. Now I hope the players revolt & they get relegated.
KFS Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 One of my really good mates is a Saints fan, says he's almost cried today! They reckon they're going down now. What an awful decision!
MC Prussian Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Wonder if Le Tissier's prediction will come true at one point. Clearly he doesn't like Southampton's Italian chairman, Nicola Cortese: http://www.goal.com/...ice-human-being There's also another, quite interesting article, that sheds more light on Southampton's current management regime under Cortese: http://www.dailymail...-iron-fist.html (Also note the comments at the bottom of the page for additional information)
Captain... Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Hope the saints fans really turn on the owner and the board and give them hell for this, and I hope our owners see it, and next season when we are in a similar position and the opportunity to talk to some well thought of out of work managers comes up, they say no and back our Nigel.
VinceNoir Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Madness. They're not doing badly considering the fixtures they had at the start of the season. How can you sack someone after a vital 1-0 win at Villa and a great 2-2 draw at the European champions!?!?! If we hit a sticky patch, I just hope our owners don't act as swiftly as Saints' and Forest's have done in recent weeks.
Kitchandro Posted 18 January 2013 Posted 18 January 2013 Makes me sick teams doing that to a manager who did so much for them. I wanted them to stay up, now I hope they get relegated and piss off back to league one. Problem is I can see our bloody owners doing exactly the same if we ever got there Yep, same here. You just can't trust any of these bastards anymore, no one seems to have an ounce of class. Adkins is a hero for Southampton and such a top bloke too. Disgrace.
