Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Excellent news, can't wait till August
Babylon Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Didn't know much about the lad, but having read up on him I've not seen one bad word said about him, injuries aside.
MPH Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Didn't know much about the lad, but having read up on him I've not seen one bad word said about him, injuries aside. Quite shocked about this too.... It has to be a first for FT!!!
Captain... Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 We make, by all accounts, a very good signing, and we soon descend into petty arguments about which player is better, without having seen any of them play in the new look NP LCFC2.0 NP may even play 3 centrebacks, he may play SSL as a right back we don't know. I just don't get this, as someone called earlier, marmite attitude we have to our players. We now have 3 solid players at CB and a couple of players who can fill in there if needed. Why are we arguing over who is better? is it not just great that we have 3 players competing for those 2 spots, each with strengths and weaknesses, but I expect all three of them to play a big part this season, with injuries, fatigue, form and suspensions all coming into play we need at least 3 quality centre backs and it looks like we have them Don't judge anyone on last season, it was a mess from start to finish, I am sure we haven't seen the best of the likes of SSL, Morgan, Beckford, etc and I fully expect the likes of King, Dyer, Gallagher etc to return to their best (whether that will be good enough to cement a place in the new look NP LCFC2.0 we will have to wait and see.) Bring on the new season.
breadandcheesebrother Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 A Naaaarch colleague wrote this to me when i asked him. "If he stays fit, you have a good player there. Good in the air, his best quality was he can pick a pass fairly well and we played better with him in the side. Having him and Vaughan in the side was a rarity given they get crocked easily. Think we offered him new terms but given his injury record he wanted more and a longer contract than we were prepared to risk. We therefore told him to do one." Nice to think we have a centre back who might be able to score goals. And some players who can put in decent crosses. Are we going to be picking up regular goals from set pieces next season???? Would be great to think so. It's been too long.
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Great, we can chant "USA! USA!" every time he does something well. Just like having Kasey Keller back. Yes let's....
MattyFromLE Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Excellent! Can't wait for the start of the season!
ealingfox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 OS not even that slow on this one. Schmeichel De Laet Morgan Whitbread Konchesky Like it.
purpleronnie Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 If the chap had been banned from driving in June, then he would not of been able to sign for us, he claims. ( currently has 17 points on his liscence!) Probably confused by our bendy roads.
ozleicester Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 http://www.lcfc.com/...2857988,00.html Leicester City have today (Monday) completed the signing of defender Zak Whitbread on a contract until June 2014. Zak, 28, joins the Foxes following the expiration of his contract with Premier League club Norwich City, with whom he spent two-and-a-half seasons and won successive promotions to the top flight. The former Liverpool and Millwall centre-back becomes Nigel Pearson's fifth new signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ritchie De Laet, Matty James, Jamie Vardy and Marko Futacs. City manager Nigel Pearson said: "Zak is a player of great quality that will add a huge amount of experience to the squad; I'm delighted we've been able to bring him here. "He will be a great character to have as part of the group and, having only won promotion from the Championship a little over a year ago with Norwich, he knows exactly what it takes to get out of this division. "We're really pleased with the business we have been able to do so far this summer, we have made some valuable additions to the squad and Zak certainly falls into that category." Born in Houston, Texas before relocating to England at a young age, Zak is a graduate of the Liverpool academy and joined the Reds' first team squad in 2003. Later that year, he was called up to the USA squad for the FIFA World Youth Championships. When opportunities were presented to him during his time as a pro on Merseyside, Whitbread invariably seized them with some outstanding performances both in the Carling Cup and in qualification for the Champions League. A loan move to Millwall in November 2005 offered Zak the chance to play regular first team football and he made 27 appearances for the Lions before making the move permanent the following summer. He spent a further three-and-a-half years at the Den, making nearly 100 appearances. He moved to Norwich, then chasing promotion from League 1, in January 2010 and played his part in securing back-to-back promotions for the Canaries - particularly coming to the fore during the second half of their ascent out of the Championship in 2011. He also featured as a starter upon Norwich's return to the Premier League last term and went on to make 21 appearances in the top flight. Zak joined the Leicester City squad for training on Monday but, due to his later start to pre-season training, is not expected to feature in Tuesday night's friendly at Hinckley United. Bloody shambles... look at that shirt all strecthed tch Good signing NP!
flowwolf Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Bloody shambles... look at that shirt all strecthed tch Good signing NP! Yes pull it any tighter and the logo's will peel off.
Toffee_Fox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Looked good against us last season and from clips against other teams, solid defender in the prem so I'm sure he will do well in the championship.

Would be great to think so. It's been too long. I'm not quite sure that's what he meant by good in the air? I think he meant defensively? Whitbread doesn't have that many goals in his entire career, so I won't be expecting too many from him.
breadandcheese Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Liked Whitbread when he was playing against in League 1 for Millwall. He stepped up with Norwich and excelled. So all in all, a good signing on a free.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Liking our defence now, cant wait for the season.
jock2612 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Think this is great!!!!! Does anyone think NP will still go after HM from Sheffield because of ZW fitness record?
Fox92 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Makes sense having another centre half, and the competition for places should be decent. Just hope we can keep Whitbread away from injuries, but pleased with this signing overall.

Fox42 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Think this is great!!!!! Does anyone think NP will still go after HM from Sheffield because of ZW fitness record? Not just for that reason but also because all our CBs are in their late twenties and I think Pearson might want to inject some fresh new blood into the back two. Also our youth CBs are League 2 level at the moment so we won't see them in the lineup for a while.
ARM1968 Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Good player and good deal. Would still like to see the Sheffield lad come in as well. But not at a Mil.
whoareyaaa Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Good signing, the squad is coming together nicely now and already looking forward to the start of the season good to get most of the signings in with a month of pre season behind them all. One or two more signings and I think thats our lot could do with a pacey winger and someone with some experience in the midfield as Wellens is injured and Gallagher isn't great and they featured a lot in the first team last season.
Guy Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Didn't know much about the lad, but having read up on him I've not seen one bad word said about him, injuries aside. Yes, that's the negative aspect of Whitbread that leaps out at you when reading up about his playing career to date, the amount of injuries he's endured in recent seasons. Am thinking is this why Norwich got rid?
ian the fox Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 good signing , will bring some presense to the back 4 , isnt likely to gallop off upfield like a wild-horse at any moment, we are now looking good at the back
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 24 July 2012 Posted 24 July 2012 Very pleased with this signing, the most pleased of our signings thus far. I remember seeing him for Millwall and thinking he looked a good player even before he was a success at Norwich. I think Whitbread and Morgan will be first choice but hopefully St Ledger won't spit his dummy out too quickly if this is the case from the start of the season because I can see him still getting a reasonable amount of matches with Whitbread's injury record. Another centre back happy to be back-up is probably needed (particularly with being allowed to have 7 subs again), not sure Maguire would fit this bill.
