Beckford - will he go or will he stay?

I love that when we like players who work hard and are on a fraction of the money Beckford is on, we're stupid because we like rubbish players just because they have 'passion' (That is actually censored? lol), yet when Beckford works hard and adds absolutely nothing he's our best player. I didn't think that Beckford was that bad actually seeing as he was coming off the bench during a spell that Blackpool were obviously going to be dominating, but it would be nice if people were consistent with how they judge players.

What did the Huddersfield CEO actually say? I haven't seen it. If Beckford wants to go then I'd rather have somebody who wants to be here. However, I wouldnt want him to go as I believe he still has something to prove!

Think he has A LOT to prove. Not holding my breath.

I'm not his biggest fan but he put a shift in yesterday. Probably tried to hard. His execution was off but I don't his effort can be questioned.

He didn't play for the team yesterday, he played for himself. That one where he tried to volley it and sliced horribly? Pathetic. He had so much time and players in support, he opted to go for a screamer when he could have passed or controlled it and got a bit closer.

As for his effort, he didn't track back when he was needed in the last 10 minutes, yes he ran after the ball in their half but strayed offside needlessly when we were clean through on goal late on - we would've scored and wrapped up the game if he had stayed onside. I wasn't at all impressed, he isn't worth the money we're paying him.

Huddersfield Town boss Simon Grayson is not ruling out a move for Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford when the loan window re-opens on Friday.

The Terriers looked set to bring in the 28-year-old before the Foxes changed their mind about the deal shortly before the transfer window closed.

"It took a lot of hard work and desire and we almost had it over the line," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He wanted to come and we might re-visit it in a few weeks time."

Grayson added: "We're in the hands of the other football club but Jermaine is a player I know well and I like."

Beckford, who played under Grayson at Leeds United, came on as a late substitite in Leicester's win over Blackpool on Saturday.

Beckford's contracted to leicester we should only let him go if we've a suitable replacement else we would end up short of "goal scorers", if they want him that bad, pay off the remainder of his contract and then pay all his wages and stop acting like a bunch of chisellers. I bet they thought season long loan and 10 grand a week should cover it, well how about stump up or shut up.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised -

we won't know why the original deal failed but fair play to NP for pulling the plug on something he wasn't happy with- didnt they mess about with the Peltier deal too?

It's a shame we couldn't bring in a replacement in time for him to go out on loan. I personally wouldn't of minded Delfouneso back as he never really got a fair chance due to Beckford and Nugent always being in the XI but he's at B'pool now. Same with Kane actually, he would have been good to acquire but we missed out to Norwich there.

This problem was created by whoever decided to pay him way over the odds in the first place.

Course it was, but we can't do anything about that now, all we can do is put it down to experience and either get Beckford scoring or sell him. Loaning him out and still pay some/all of his wages is just stupid unless they agree to buying him at the end of the loan period and pay all his wages.

This was the crux of the deal. There wasn't enough time for medical so loan was the only option, but we were apparently holding out for 'loan to perm' and that was the sticking point late afternoon, I don't know if that hurdle was overcome later on, it must have been because the papers were signed, I can only assume we didn't give it the final thumbs up because our own target didn't materialise & thanks to NP being so secretive regarding transfers we have no way of knowing who it was or even if that was the reason.

I still expect him to go and for us to get a few players in.

Even if JB was going to go.... Why would NP just let him leave without any back up plan, Not one championship club are giving us any favours/deals!!!! NP is obviously sticking to what is best for US. Me personly would have sent JB onto the pitch told him to prove he wanted to play then if he still failed, would have got rid and tried to bring in Cox or Maynard earlier in the window.......

Stringer just played Huddersfield's chief executive on the radio.. Something along the lines of "we dont want to buy Beckford, it's not part of our plans".

cox & billy sharp already gone out to forest & maynard at cardiff

I know, i was saying i would of given JB the chance to prove he wanted the jersey right at the start, then got rid of if he failed then tried for Cox or Maynard....too bloody late now...... But still in NP i will trust we are playing well and a little more luck it would have been us sitting at the top with 12pts....FOXES TILL I DIE

Oh, so they just to borrow him, probably have us subsidise his wages and stuff

that's alright then :frusty:

No wonder we pulled the plug, we need to do what's right for us

Did anybody hear Nigel's post match interview on Saturday?

When Stringer asked him about the Huddersfield's CEO's comments, he said something along the lines of: 'People from certain clubs need to learn when to keep their mouths shut'. You could tell he was peed off with them.

Could it have an affect if they come back in for him? Maybe they've blew their chances of getting him now by making the comments they did.

The Chief Executive actually stated that they didn't want to spend the money they got from the Rhodes sale on Beckford.

He stated they have other plans with that money.

Some big money loan deals like us paying Everton £1m for Yak (plus his wages) maybe?

Who knows though, he could just pocket it

Let him go hes been below par since he arived hes a good footballer but hes not a Pearson player which is showing now. He let us down again on Sat two very poor shots on goal and if he had played the easy pass just infront vardy it would have been 2-0 game over! I do like him if the teams set up around him like it was at Leeds but he doesn't look like hes going to settle at Leicester!

Exactly.

Thing that worries me is, and taking into account his reported high wages, if we wanted to get rid of him, what club (especially at this level) is going to pay his wages, as well as the fee!?

Posted

The thing is, there might not be any clubs who want to buy Beckford. Our only option to cut our losses on him at the moment might be to loan him out. I don't think we have a choice whether to loan or sell, only a choice of loan and subsidise his wages, or keep hold of an expensive reserve player.

Even if a club wants to pay only £10-15k a week towards his wages, that will still mean we can go out and get a better replacement. Obviously, it would be much better to sell, but I'm not sure there'll be any buyers.
