Leicesterpool Posted 21 August 2013 Posted 21 August 2013 Just been hard done by - Ivanovic could have got sent off and then went and nicked a goal minutes later. I know, normal service resumed the refs looking after the big clubs. Old Olly was right!
Corky Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 I know, normal service resumed the refs looking after the big clubs. Old Olly was right! Villa not a big club?
Leicesterpool Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Villa not a big club? Well the top four clubs then.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Arsenal apparently after Benzema and Di Maria. I wouldn't rate Benzema at £40 million though, think they should just splash out on Rooney tbh.
Dan Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 4th > Trophy unless it's the Prem or CL. I agree though, he clearly has the cash now and should be spending it. Disagree on that. 4th should be the absolute bare minumum for a club like Arsenal and it'd be better to actually put their name on a trophy again rather than qualify for the 'Champions' League.

What absolute Tosh! the monetary gains of reaching the Champions League far outweighs that of the league or FA cup! Due to the cost of building the stadium he's worked on a tight budget (by top of prem standards) and still qualifies every year. With the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Spurs - Thats 6 big clubs all competing for 4 spots and all spending alot of money to get there. 4th is an achievement under the circumstances! But..... i agree with Matt that he now needs to spend the money available and take Arsenal a further step forward to become genuine title challengers!
21st Century Fox Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 I think one of the best things to come out of the whole Bale to Madrid transfer is that Southampton sold their sell-on clause a few years ago for comparative peanuts.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Arsenal apparently after Benzema and Di Maria. I wouldn't rate Benzema at £40 million though, think they should just splash out on Rooney tbh. Can't see him accepting wages of 100k at Arsenal, tight wads.
Stadt Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 I think one of the best things to come out of the whole Bale to Madrid transfer is that Southampton sold their sell-on clause a few years ago for comparative peanuts. Probably £4-8 million then so too bad but imigamine it was like a 1/5 though?
21st Century Fox Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Probably £4-8 million then so too bad but imigamine it was like a 1/5 though? Apparently they sold the clause for £2-3 million plus a Spurs youth keeper called Tommy Forecast who was released by Southampton before making a single first team appearance. The clause was reportedly anywhere between 10-25% but they'll still get £1-2 million for youth development fees.
Jimothy Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 apparently, well according to SSN twitter, Anelka has walked out of training at WBA and told everyone he's retiring from football.
FoxLAD Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 apparently, well according to SSN twitter, Anelka has walked out of training at WBA and told everyone he's retiring from football. Just seen this.. WTF?
Super_horns Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 According to this article it might be down to personal reasons: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/west-bromwich-albion/10259885/Nicolas-Anelka-leaves-West-Bromwich-Albion-and-could-retire-from-football-completely.html Sounds like some sad news for him rather than the bloke just walking out in a huff. Poor stuff from SSN there...I presume they must have just got given some duff information. Or he went to training and didn't feel up to it.

Jimothy Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 His agent has died apparently. He's not retired just yet but been excused on compassionate grounds. Well that seems to be what most journos on twitter are saying. Edit: just realised after typing this, isn't his agent his brother?
Haydos Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Heard the same from a mate that works at Sky, could just be generic rumour that's been passed on. Unfortunate for all parties if true.

But..... i agree with Matt that he now needs to spend the money available and take Arsenal a further step forward to become genuine title challengers! What is 'absolute tosh' is the obsession with money. Has it really reached the point where Arsenal, one of the genuine powerful clubs when I was growing up, are happy to win nothing and qualify for the 'Champions' League due to the financial incentives? If anything it just sums up everything wrong with football today. OK, winning nothing and coming 4th every year may actually happen, but to actually be happy with it as a club like Arsenal? This myth that Arsenal haven't spent is getting tedious too and the majority of their players jump ship because their 'ambition' is just to play in Europe.
Harry - LCFC Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Do you know who this is? Everyone's best buddy, Ian! (Holloway that is, in case you didn't know) But that badge! Bristol Rovers had that badge once?! What's it meant to be anyway? Looks like an estate agents company or some other corporate thingy. Weird.
SystonFox Posted 22 August 2013 Posted 22 August 2013 Do you know who this is? He's a cvnt not a comedian. Not a football manager either
Stadt Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 Image from Madrids official website. I think the deal has been made they're just sorting out how they're going to pay the fee.
Jon the Hat Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 I think the deal has been made they're just sorting out how they're going to pay the fee.Spurs haven't spent all this money without the deal being done. Agreed a couple of weeks ago in principle.
Carl the Llama Posted 23 August 2013 Posted 23 August 2013 I just saw that Chelsea made a last minute move for Willian who was going to sign for spurs. That one came out of the blue.
