But I'd sell if I were Spurs. One player doesn't make a team avd you could turn them in to a comfortable top four side with 85m. It's a staggering amount of money.

The problem is that all the other clubs would then know that Spurs had a staggering amount of money, so Spurs would have to pay a staggering amount for most players they wanted to sign....so might NOT be able to build a top 4 side with 85m. How much did Liverpool get from Chelsea for Torres? 50m, was it? They then allegedly spent 35m of that on Andy Carroll and have not built a top 4 side (not yet, at least). OK, maybe the Scousers just spent their windfall stupidly (Suarez apart), but if Spurs sell Bale for megabucks, they'll certainly be paying well over the odds for replacements, unless they can identify good players whose contracts are running out or who are in dispute with their existing clubs (not a good recommendation in itself).

Bayfox Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 If I was Spurs Chairman, Yes I have to say I would, I really rate him as a player, but spurs aren't in a position to surround him with other world class talent, but if selling bale helps you buy 4 players in the 20 million bracket I think you have to do it to strengthen your all round squad/first team. Giving you a more realistic shot at the top 4. For example say it means you can go buy/compete for, sneijder, benteke, rooney and damiao, instead of relying on adebayor having good games against his former clubs.

If I were the Spurs chairman, I'd rather sell now and buy several new players (anywhere between four to even ten new names) that add to the overall strength of the team. In the long run, they'd profit much more from a move.
Captain... Posted 11 June 2013 Author Posted 11 June 2013 It's a tough one, I'd like to see both spurs and Bale turn it down out of loyalty. Spurs aren't broke and a decent strikes to complement Bale and they would be champions league bound. But it is a huge amount of money. The problem is £85 can only attract so much. The lack of champions league football will mean many £20 million players will turn their noses up. Also I think this coming season is their best chance of champion's league qualification. At least one of Moyes, Mou and Manuel will fail, Martinez may do well with Everton but I can't see them challenging. They have a few years left on Bale's contract, so there is no pressure to sell, he will still be worth that next season. I guess it depends on how much champion's league football is worth to them.

Danizen Posted 11 June 2013 Posted 11 June 2013 He's worth about £50m. £60m would be impossible to turn down even for someone as stubborn as Daniel Levy. I don't think it'd be in installments, either. I'm pretty sure they paid it all up front for Ronaldo.
