I am Rod Hull Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 This is basically vengeance for the 1990s, where successive England teams were utterly humiliated by the Aussies series after series. Long may it continue. The young`uns on here have no idea of the feelings of total and utter humiliation we had back in those days and so tend to feel sorry for the Aussies. Sweet fvcking pay back is what I say

Sweet fvcking pay back is what I say Oh, I can vividly remember 2001, 2002/03 and 2006/07. No sympathy whatsoever. Hope we beat them by at least 400
stevelcfc Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 He's only been ruled out of the final two days; he could easily be fit for the 3rd Test. Sorry, I was told he'd miss the rest of the series, not match... As you were.
Bert Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 Never feel sorry for the Aussies. I'm sure they weren't feeling sorry when they were dominating us.
marko Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 Never feel sorry for the Aussies. I'm sure they weren't feeling sorry when they were dominating us. No, they were rubbing it in our faces and loving every single minute.
Brainy Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 Compton opens for Somerset. Recently perhaps, Trescothick and Suppiah used to open for them
marko Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 Recently perhaps, Trescothick and Suppiah used to open for them Compton has always either opened or batted 3 for Somerset.
Alf Bentley Posted 20 July 2013 Posted 20 July 2013 I don't think that I've ever met a nationality who enjoyed their victories so much or felt their defeats so keenly.....which is a sweet thought at the moment! That said, there's a match - and a series - to win yet. It seems unlikely that the current Aussie batting line-up could hold out for the best part of 2 days, but you never know, particularly if one of these summer storms strikes in the wrong place at the wrong time. It would also be hard to see them come back from being 2-0 down with 3 Tests to play, but you never know again. England need to be ruthless, just as the Aussies would be if the circumstances were reversed - and doubtless will again in future once they rebuild.
Super_horns Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Please Root got his 150 plus - will do him the power of good. Maybe get to lunch and then have a crack at them again with Swann's spin.
StanSP Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Please Root got his 150 plus - will do him the power of good. Maybe get to lunch and then have a crack at them again with Swann's spin. Some of the balls coming out of the rough yesterday - Swann will love that! Reckon it'll all be over by lunchtime tomorrow.
Corky Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Swann will be far more effective, he's got a bigger skillset than the Aussies, plus they were probably demoralised from the match position so weren't trying all variations.
davieG Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Can someone explain why we are still batting are playing for a draw? So it was just to give Root a chance at 200 doesn't seem like a ruthless approach to the game.

So it was just to give Root a chance at 200 doesn't seem like a ruthless approach to the game. I don't agree with it either, seems a waste now he's out, I would have declared last night. But if we cant bowl them out in pretty much 2 full days they we dont deserve to win anyway. Lets hope we can get some early wickets.
Swarles Barkley Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Can someone explain why we are still batting are playing for a draw? So it was just to give Root a chance at 200 doesn't seem like a ruthless approach to the game. I say give him a chance to get a 200. Hes only 22 and a double hundred against australia in an ashes series is one of those moments that people will look back as one of the greatest innings ever. Lets be fair australia arent going to survive 5 sessions on a much worse pitch than when they were skittled out for 128.

But if we cant bowl them out in pretty much 2 full days they we dont deserve to win anyway. Lets hope we can get some early wickets. Absolutely. Still 173-odd overs left if you look at it like that. The way the Aussies have been batting that should be plenty enough.
Super_horns Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Reckon it might be all over today...with the cloud cover helping.
darko2k7 Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Reckon it might be all over today...with the cloud cover helping. Agreed, as humiliating as possible please England.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 32-2 now. I just don't see anybody in the Australia batting order doing what Root did, or even coming close to it. Close of play is a tall order, but I do see this being all over by tomorrow lunchtime.
Aus Fox Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Haha these reviews are a joke... Have they got one right yet? Another happy Monday at work coming up

So it was just to give Root a chance at 200 doesn't seem like a ruthless approach to the game. I don't mind them giving Root the chance, we'd still have 170 overs to get ten wickets (well on the way). Also, it gives Australia a bit longer in the field and ten minutes to prepare for their innings, rather than a whole evening/ early morning.
AjcW Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 Controversial Post Alert: If anyone ever questions why sky get as many contracts as they do, it's the ability to make lunch breaks in cricket, analysis in football and build ups to major events as interesting as possible. Some great features during this ashes series lunch breaks so far. And the presenters, researchers, comentators and producers are constantly professional and well informed. I know they've got the money to spend on these things but good on them for making the effort and not getting complacent.

To suggest that all other outlets don't provide similar levels of interest, professionalism and good features is clearly nonsense. Sky just have a shit load more money to throw at it than the others.

Guest Posted 21 July 2013 Posted 21 July 2013 You've obviously never watched England internationals on ITV. I have, and their problem is predominantly one based in personnel (barring the odd technical fault) but AjcW was basically lumping all other outlets in together in opposition to Sky. Strikes me as a comment without consideration of the range and depth of coverage available on other formats.
