Troy Deeney

Pearson will be absolutely livid that another manager is publicly mentioning who we are bidding for. Yes it's all over the papers but Pearson will still see it as poor form.

Yeah, it was Redknapp who blurted out that we'd signed Kevin Phillips before we'd actually completed the deal. Don't think Big Nige was too impressed if I remember rightly.

are you mental wood is a class player that hasn't been given a chance I'd have wood upfront more than deeney if wood started every game like nugent last season ( not having a dig at nugent ) he would of got more goals than him from open play, anyone who thinks wood is even near our worse striker is clueless, just needs game time !!!!

So Nigel Pearson is clueless then?

Who says Nigel Pearson thinks Chris Wood is our worst striker?

Wood was given game time at the end of last season and didn't look all that other than the Burnley match.

Useless lump is harsh but what isn't harsh is saying that if we are to be successful in the prem then he won't be part of it. Deeney>Wood any day of the week.

I usually like the teams promoted to the prem being underdogs and all that etc. Not this year, im really starting to hate qpr and burnley along with their managers. Ridiculously unprofessional from HR blurting out our transfer interactions

Harry's got previous with us,cannot remember the players name ,but he seemed to know the player was joining us.

Do you need a written letter from him or something... the fact he was behind Vardy and Nugent in the pecking order last season shows he thinks that.

No that really just shows that he thinks he's third best. Which isn't the same thing at all.

I assume Steve Walsh took the summer off then? I could have put these names forward to Pearson, quite disappointed we've not looked further afield for a few bargains (and a left back/winger).

This is what I don't get... Nobody knows who he wants or who he has bid for. I don't believe anything other than Sky and BBC because 99% of those rumours are not true.

We're only fans. We don't know who he is looking at. He made a great point yesterday about getting the right player.

Yeah, thinks he's the third best out of three... ergo... the worst.

We only had 3 strikers last season?

Who said that? But seeing as you bring it up, how many times did Phillips make it onto the pitch ahead of Wood.

Clearly he's going to be behind Ulloa, and he's obviously behind Vardy and Nugent.

So, going back to the original point I highlighted "anyone who thinks wood is even near our worse striker is clueless", clearly Pearson does rate him as nearly our worst striker, hence everyone else being in front of him.

The only one behind him in the pecking order would be GTF, and I wouldn't even rate him as a striker.

Last summer, if anyone had said Jamie Vardy should be anything more than third choice, they'd have been mocked. You have no idea what's going on in Nigel's head, or who he thinks is our best striker. Vardy and Nugent both absolutely work better in the system Nigel wanted to play last season, but that's not evidence that he thinks Chris Wood is one of our worst strikers.

In terms of the original post, Chris Wood obviously isn't anywhere near the worst striker at the club. He's above GTF, Hopper and Schlupp for a start. And based on their performances and records in the Championship, he's not a million miles behind Vardy, Nugent or Ulloa.

Posted

I'm not seeing it with Wood. We look a weaker side with him in that we do with GTF, let alone the others.

I hope we swerve this if Watford seriously want ten million. I'm not convinced we even need another forward, let alone one at that price.

So Nugent and Vardy work better in our System, Pearson prefers to play them, just signed Ulloa and keeps trying to sign another striker... there are signs there, I think you might be missing them.

So he's above someone who is our left back and has been for some time, a youth team player that nobody even thinks of as a first team striker, and some fat bloke who is more of an advanced midfielder than a striker.

Wood will turn out to be a decent player, but anyone thinking he's not currently at the bottom of the pecking order in terms of actual out and out first team strikers is deluding themselves.

I think people forget how young Wood is, no where near his prime. I'd like to see him loaned out somewhere, wouldn't like to see him go on a permanent.

Opps! forgot this thread was about Deeney.

Giving our rivals ten million to build a promotion possible squad that could stop us getting promotion is ludicrous.

Nige needs to look elsewhere.

Make a bid for Slimani or Delort who we should be able to get for half the price if Watford are gonna take the p***. We should potentially make one last bid of £8.5m if that gets rejected then we move on & laugh at whoever pays the silly money for Deeney. The rest of the money that we saved by buying someone like Slimani or Delort could be reinvested in other areas where we need improving like Left Back or Centre mid.

Posted

10 million for Deeney is just laughable in itself. I'll be disappointed if we do end up getting him because that money could have been spent so much more wisely.

I hope we do the classic eBay tactic and stick a £9.5 million bid in. Then let Redders steam in with a £12 million bid and we piss off in to the sunset laughing our heads off at CodPiece yet again.

Danny Graham for £500,000 would do me as back-up. We don't need another main striker.

I concur, but Danny Graham is crap man!, a back up striker that is pacey wouldn't go amiss.
