I can't believe anybody who was at Filbert Street for the Red Star game would turn their nose up at European football.

Oh my holy God people are genuinely saying they would t want to be playing European football. lol

You do realise why we watch this game, right?

Look at the group Spurs have got in the Europa league. Monaco, Anderlecht and Qarabag.

We'd take bloody loads to Monaco & Anderlecht though I don't know how much a pint would cost for us in Monaco lol

The Alliance ....

As above. Can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading.

Football is supposed to be about enjoying yourself, travelling and trying to win trophies for fans, not worrying about how much the owners will get from television money next season.

Plus we have scores to settle in European competition (on the pitch). Hopefully we'd get a kinder draw too.

Haven't Qarabag got to travel the equivalent of half the globes circumference for all there games or something. Long for man.

I don't know what a Qarabag is, but that is about 20,000km that's around 24 hours flight time, 3 away games, 6,666 km so around 8 hours round trip per game, 4 hours flying there, 4 hours back, add a couple of hours on for travel each end around 6 hours.

By the looks of it the furthest game is Spurs, 5 hours 30 minute flight the away side in some of Tuesday's league cup ties travelled for longer in a bus.

Qarabag, more like whingebag!

Yeah just to add to the Europe debate, I definitely want to be in it. The complaint that "it'd hurt our league form" doesn't interest me. The prospect of going far in a major competition far outweighs the loss of a few places in the league IMO.

If that's your biggest argument against it you probably to reconsider why you watch follow because it sounds a lot like you prefer monotonous stability and bank balances to glory and adventure.

But the worry isn't losing a few places in the league, but losing our place in the top flight.

Realistically we won't win the europa league, the influx of CL rejects pretty much guarantees that, if it is a choice between giving it our best shot, probably the best we could achieve would be getting out the groups, maybe even winning the first knockout game after the groups, or protecting our premier league status and maybe not putting out a full strength team in some of the away group matches. How would you approach it.

Would go for the chance of a two leg glamour tie against Juve at the risk of Rotherham on a Wednesday night for seasons to come?

Should the opportunity arise we should take it seriously, but we have to also consider the long term success of the club, and that will be in maintaining our premier league status over and above a European run.

Should we get into the Europa League and keep most of our squad then yes I would take that 'risk'.

If Fulham can get to a Europa league final and maintain their premier league status final for 4 years there's no reason why we couldn't.

Same applies to Middlesbrough who got to the final in 2006.

Of course, a good Europa cup run is no guarantee of relegation, but that is what would damage us the most and should be the club's priority.

I think it has been pretty pathetic from Southampton and West Ham this season, there is no need to rest players at this stage of the season. What I could understand is if it is December the last game of the group stage away to Qarabag and a win could see us go through, but not guarantee it. We are bottom of the league 4 points from safety with a busy Christmas period coming up and our next game is away to relegation rivals the following Sunday. I would understand resting players for the Europa League tie to be fresh for the league match.

Surely poor club management and/or complacency is what would cause damage, not the simple fact of being in a European competition... Logically it should make attracting new players and therefore strengthening the club more easy to do.

Look at Astana lol they've got some outrageous trips to make. Azerbaijan is one thing but east Kazakhstan is ridiculous. It's nearer to Tokyo than Madrid.

At what point though do you actually go for something? I'm all for building, but this to me seems like building and building and building with nothing to actually show for it. Football is ultimately about winning things for me. Maybe not others but that won't change at this end.

This is the right attitude. The way that the quality and depth of the squad is being continuously and quickly improved, should we manage to qualify for Europe then I believe that we will be strong enough to cope with the extra demands by then.

I'd rather win the Europa League and get relegated than finish 12th dreaming of reaching 7th and qualifying for you guessed it, the Europa league.

English teams aversion to the Europa league is going to cost the PL a champions league place as performance in that competition takes Europa league into account. Should we be lucky to qualify for Europa League, think we should go for it and see where it takes us. Doesn't necessarily mean relegation as most seem to imply...just good management

Everton have actually signed somebody - Uruguayan forward Leandro Rodriguez is lured away from River Plate (Montevideo) for £500k.

And Manchester United's Jonny Evans in very close talks with West Bromwich Albion.

Even the top teams with their ridiculous squads often struggle with the demands of the champions League.

We're building a tidy squad but even the Europa league would, I believe, require at least 4 more quality signings probably above those we already have.
