It's probably the best way to do it. Given we roughly have two players per position, with a one or two extra in CM and at CB for cover, it makes sense to trim the weaker players out of each position and add better quality when we can on a 1 in, 1 out policy. Konchesky out and Fuchs in is a great example of that.

I'm usually sceptical about signing players from the continent, but I have to admit he looks quality. Has to be an improvement to the squad and he's at a good age for a defender.
