Cambiasso to stay? It depends on the Mrs

"Last season's player of the year has been offered a 12-month contract but Leicester are now understood to be preparing for next season without him."

So QWERTY & Fourth Official were talking out of their arses then? Expected it from the latter tbh, hasn't been exactly reliable since Sven left. Maybe Cambiasso is still having his medical with Jimmy Kebe.

I personally think it's quite rude from Cambiasso in making the club wait all this time tbh; we don't owe him anything and he's probably been told by officials that he's popular by both fans and players and should appreciate that at his age.

My suspicion would be that there was a deal agreed before Pearson's departure that included the option of a coaching role during the duration, or at the end of, the contract. Ranieri might not want to offer that option which is possibly where there is now a change in outcome.

You couldn't therefore blame Esteban for taking so long to make a decision, it's our mucking around with the manager that has caused all of this uncertainty.

I've tried not to comment in this thread, there's far too much hysteria for my liking. Yes, Cambiasso was absolute class at times last season but is it really going to get any better for him? I don't think it can do, so the sensible option for him is to depart having achieved what he has and with cult hero status.

That said, I'd be disappointed to see him play for another PL club and it would be a shame if he wasted his talent in a nothing league like the Indian or American ones. If he goes it'll be a shame but we've got the money and profile to go and get a couple of players that will be of use to us for more than just a year at the tail end of their career.

If we need to rely on a 34 year old to stay up we have more problems than we realise. Let's just move on and get Kante or Mendy in

We don't fully rely on him to stay up, but he is a big help. Anyway him being 34 didn't affect his performances last year, age is just a number

The newspaper is adding up the Mercury's 'thoughts' with us going for Ake and coming up with this. I'm not saying they are wrong, but nothing solid at all.

Thats the point i made as well, people should know newspapers will twist scenarios to get as much money as possible and if there made up transfer scenario ends up to be false then there is little damage to them. Im not saying John Percy is lying he could be telling the truth but I believe people should hold of on their judgements until more information comes out as people now instantly believe he is leaving just because one newspaper has hinted in that direction.

Ranieri is gonna send us down and there's nothing we can do about it :(

I'll call your gloomy sad face, and raise you 8 more:

We're going down. Its the end of the world as we know it.  Ranieri is a disaster already. How could the owners be such fools? Prepare for the champo.  We will surely challenge Derby's low points record.

Will you fold?

That'd be a shame and i'd be fucking fuming if it were the case as if Cambiasso were to sign a contract with the option of a coaching role at the end of the contract and Ranieri decided he didn't want that situation because i'm 99.9% sure Cambiasso would be here longer than Ranieri will be, for him to call those shots...I don't even want to think about it.

That said there's been quite alot reported about Cambiasso not being interested in a coaching role atm, now whether as you have suggested he'd be interested in one at the end of his contract, that's another question.

Sad if he doesn't sign after so much positivety on Wednesday about him signing (or singing) but with what has gone on at the club in the last 3 weeks and him being on a pretty long break maybe he hasn't had a chance to meet up with Ranieri yet and if he had an offer on the table from Pearson then it could all have changed with Ranieri coming in....

I know John Percy is one of the more reliable journalists, but I do get the sense he has jumped the gun a bit here. I get the impression he has seen how much interest we have in other CMs and jumped to the conclusion that Cambaisso must be off, when in truth, we need another CM even if Cambaisso was to stay.

Also, if he was that confident in this information he has recieved, surely he would have dedicated an article to it, rather than just merging it in at the bottom of a Nathan Ake article. Cambiasso leaving is more of a story than us having interest in Ake.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if we upped our offer now. Who remembers us signing Waggy for £3m to keep us happy.

Still, not looking great now.

If we have offered him a contract and he doesn't want to take it, then what else can we do? We move on and move forward. Feel blessed we had him for a season but come on he isn't irreplaceable. I fully expect a signing of two from CR. we are in a better position than we were last season already and still a long time till the window shuts.

I'd love him to re-sign and be the same player as the end of last season however, if it is the case he wants to move on let him what's the point in throwing money at him to stay if his hearts not in it like others have said it could also be a family decision - at this stage in his career does he need the cash probably not, does he need the adoration of the fans - I doubt it he's doesn't come across as that kind of a player. Is it a stepping stone to something better most likely not - so I would assume that making sacrifices ahead of what is right for his family won't happen.

Whatever he decides it won't take it away what he did at the end of last season, the man is a god amongst footballers and humble to boot. He saw out his contract with us and is not making any snap decisions for next season. If he stays happy days if not I wish him luck.

( unless he goes to West Ham then I'd be a bit miffed - just because West Ham )
