davieG Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Nige is favourite according to SkyBet Leicester City's Nigel Pearson installed as the new favourite for the sack Nigel Pearson has been installed as the new 3/1 favourite (Sky Bet) in thePremier League Sack Race. The Leicester City boss had been priced at 6/1, however this morning (Wednesday) he has replaced Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers (now 6/1) at the summit of the market. Pearson miraculously saved Leicester from the dreaded drop last season after registering a remarkable 22 points from the club's final nine matches, which secured an impressive 14th place finish. The Foxes looked doomed in March, but that incredible late run of form meant they finished six points above the relegation zone, and 11 points ahead of rock-bottom QPR. Pearson was frequently in the spotlight last term; due to his bizarre clashes with the media, players and even supporters. The 51-year-old's infamous labelling of a reporter as an "ostrich" was just one of many memorable moments (see video). Pearson was also rarely far from the top cluster of managers in the Sack Race market. The ex-Southampton gaffer even reportedly suffered the sack back in February, only to be reinstated straight after, in one of many perplexing incidents involving the former defender. Pearson's achievements at the end of the last season means that he is undoubtedly safe for now, however a rocky start to the upcoming campaign could pile on the pressure. Leicester have been handed a fairly decent opening period, starting with Sunderland at home on 8 August, followed by games against West Ham, Spurs, Bournemouth, Aston Villa nd Stoke. Fox92 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Unbelievable how they can compile a sack list two months before the season starts.
Finnaldo Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 >Bottom and 7 points adrift of safety in March and not sacked >Goes into new season on the back of Premier League winning form, favourite to be sacked Thanks Sky
VLC86 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 This must be purely based on the thailand incident rather than actual results.
lgfualol Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 What rubbish. Poor run in 12/13 season - Not sacked, Poor run in 14/15 season - Not sacked. Can't the betting companies see that the owners have faith in him? Would say the Watford & Liverpool manager should both be top.
davieG Posted 24 June 2015 Author Posted 24 June 2015 This must be purely based on the thailand incident rather than actual results. More likely based on the fact that not only are media people ostriches but also plenty of them that compile bets are but I guess it's based a lot on where the general public are sticking their money.
yorkie1999 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 This must be purely based on the thailand incident rather than actual results. Or based on they want punters to put money on a bet that's safe for the bookies.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Rodgers at 6/1 for me. If they get off to another bad start he will be in trouble. Advocaat won't last the season either.
Gerard Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 I would lay Pearson at 3/1 all day long. I expect us to finish 10th-12th. Unless we look like getting relegated at some point then it would take another incident to get him sacked. We could be 18th at Christmas and he still won't be sacked.
RowlattsFox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 im not surprised he's high on the list, a bad start and the majority of this forum will be back on his case again. He won't get away with being in the same position this time. The Watford boss is probably a decent bet if he loses a few in a row.
Swarles Barkley Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Likely to be the rubbish that is "second season syndrome" causing people to bet of which we are the only team. Also the teams that have come up are all expected to have a difficult season. Therefore is they struggle its understandable and less likely to be sacked early on. IMO it does make sense as a neutral to bet on pearson based on these facts rather than actually knowing the team
ealingfox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Highly likely the media and many pundits are very bitter about us staying up. Id expect a few more things like this over the summer. We'll be tipped for the drop again by many no doubt.
Frank to be Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Some good odds there. Could place a bet on all of them excluding Pearson and be almost guaranteed not to make a large loss
Bayfox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 i'd suggest our owners intend to back pearson, they have tried and had plenty of reasons to get rid. however he is still here. I would say man city, liverpool, watford maybe even spurs are more likely to fire before our owners get trigger happy.
kingcarr21 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Surely the bigger teams will look to make a change if they get off to a bad start with Klopp looking like he is waiting for the first big Prem job to come along. With Liverpools fixtures at the start of the season i would certainly look to put my money on Rodgers biting the bullet first. Pellegrini must also be worth a punt with them odds. I can understand Pearson being up there. Expectations have certainly gone up after the way we ended the season. We go on another bad run the owners might look to change as we cant expect a miraculous recovery everytime were in the shit. Personally i can see Pearson having another full season and the owners backing him. Hes only up there due to lack of signings so far. Rodgers was top until Liverpool signed Firmino. See what it is at the start of the actual season.
SMX11 Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 I think the bookies should look at Watfords owners record and consider again.
shade Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Nit picking pedantic I don't want to be pedantic but technically it should be 'pedant'.
foxfanazer Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Rodgers Watford manager Alex Neil Pelligrini All more under threat than Nige if they have a bad start imo
iamafox Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Rodgers Watford manager Alex Neil Pelligrini All more under threat than Nige if they have a bad start imo Fixed that for you
Dan Posted 24 June 2015 Posted 24 June 2015 Last time he was favourite to be sacked was the 2013/14 season. All I'm saying.
