RedSoxUK Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Want someone in before the pre-season trip, want someone who will try and recreate Nigel's 3-4-1-2 / 5-3-2, want someone who knows the club and is tactically sound without being at clash with the DoF - I think Jon Rudkin knew/knows Martin O'Neil when he was here the first time, at a minor level but still. As long as MON doesn't want to appoint a whole new coaching team, gets restricted by the scouting teams targets, and has a plan to take the club forward then I have no problem in having MON here, and no one really should. Nostalgic past doesn't have to be ruined here; it is what it is, a manager/head coach taking a job with a Premier League team.
Nick Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Just to entertain the idea of Lennon coming aswell.... Its possible Oniell would agree to "help out " for a year or two with the possibility of Lennon getting some experience and taking over after that time. Ok maybe it isnt very likely but this is a message forum and... yeah we all share ideas... As long as he doesn't bring Roy I don't care.
Jimothy Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He'll be gutted James McClean's been snapped up. Doesn't use him much for Ireland, so I don't see why he'd be desperate to sign him for a club side.
Bagworthblue Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 i'm sorry but this squad of players couldn't have been built better for Martin O'Neill if we keep the existing backroom staff, there could have been no better replacement than Martin - highly regarded by his players, a man that looks after his players, will not tinker with our style as it is a style he has often played himself. he is a a motivator and a leader and if true will have what he didn't have here last time, money to spend and money to enable him to hold on to players. I imagine Cambiasso will sign on the dotted line too as he is known for being very persuasive. I didn't want Pearson gone but I can't think of a better replacement given the squad we have.
FoxinNotts Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Any credible sources yet? Doubt this is happening, I don't think anything will be happening for a week-or-so, personally. In the meantime Kante and Sako (the Franco-Malian connection) will probably sign via Walsh/Shakey, and the boys will crack on in Austria. Speculation will continue over a long two weeks.
suffolk fox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 This clearly wasn't the plan of the owners. It's surely just saving face because we ****ed up getting rid of Nigel, then everyone we wanted rejected us and now we're trying to get the fans back on side. Well we'll all be on side until we're bottom after 10 games with barely a point. With the same squad of players bar one, plus three new better additions? Some people talk some shit sometimes don't they Scouse? Perhaps you will be better off supporting, Liverpool, Everton or Tranmere Rovers.
Fox92 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Doesn't use him much for Ireland, so I don't see why he'd be desperate to sign him for a club side. Same people negative regardless. Thought they'd be happy now Pearson has gone, obviously not.

Perhaps you will be better off supporting, Liverpool, Everton or Tranmere Rovers. Just because we have the same squad doesn't mean we'll stay up again. We could easily be bottom after 10 games, he is right, just like we could easily be in the top 10.
Wymsey Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Martin's someone who would 'look after' the players, which is vital for team morale, and he's also kind towards the press (something which Nigel didn't muster as well as he could).
Darkon84 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I'm pretty sure more then 1 applicant will be interviewed, didn't Albert state that an interview will be conducted today? Seems very irresponsible to appoint the first interviewee, typically you look at everyone and then make your decision! Someone's seen him leaving an interview and some minted idiot has whacked a load of money on him getting it... This does not mean for certain he's got the role. Big money started going on last night, so unless it was a very late interview...........
Brenfox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Keep Walsh & Shakey then this is a brilliant appointment. O'Neill is a better version of Nigel Pearson.
AS78UK Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Squad is built for MoN. He's a motivator. He has a passion for LCFC. Fans love him. Better then most on the list we have been linked with, or at least no worse.
lcfcsnow Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Same people negative regardless. Thought they'd be happy now Pearson has gone, obviously not. I was content with Pearson after last year, he got the results on the pitch and after his sacking I was hoping for a proper replacement. I was there in the O'Neill years, as good as he was people forget there were some real drab games, long winless streaks admittedly we had a small squad and that probably had effect. But he rarely signed anyone that offered anything other than hard work and graft. His Sunderland side was negative even for their standards, can't help but feel it would be a backward step as we really showed some real pace and flair towards the end of last season, a joy to watch.
lgfualol Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Just get the contract signed asap Top & gang. The only people benefiting from all the waiting is the betting companies.
MPH Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 16 pages? What's happened? Some betting agencies have suspended betting as lots of big money has been placed on oniell. He was also ( allegedly) seen at the stadium
RedSoxUK Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 16 pages? What's happened? Hype, speculation, and negative jubilation - your average thread atm.
EnglishOxide Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Oh god. If this happens and we lose on the opening day Sunderland fans will be unbearable!
Rusko187 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Big money started going on last night, so unless it was a very late interview........... Maybe so but apparently there were more interviews to be done. I just think this plot could twist again! After all Ranieri is more qualified, surely he would have an interview too if he expressed interest.
Finnaldo Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 16 pages? What's happened? As usual, other than someone's apparently had an interview (haven't seen a source) we know fvck all and the bookies who know just as much have put him as favourite, so like Lennon, Hiddink and Preki before him, he's dead on to be manager. On the off chance it is him, why not. Risks jeopardising his legacy but the fans will give him more time, a win-win for the Thais as well as they'll likely be forgiven by most of the fanbase and won't be instantly turned on if we don't get results straight away.
Bagworthblue Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 O' Neill as boss and Matt on the radio - imagine
