Ric Flair Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 He won't come back and if he did then i'd be worried it's because his stock has fallen and his principles have changed.
foxfanazer Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 I could actually see the owners appointing him thinking this will appease the fans after sacking NP. Really hope not
ktfox59 Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 Having said no so many times previously, if he is indeed the man being interviewed then surely this will be our management appointment. The owners would have done their due diligence on him to persuade themselves he is their preferred choice now, and for him to accept an interview is an indication he is again up for it
Suffolk exile Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 No. It is a different time, a different club and frankly, it is pretty much a different game. It would be too painful to watch, seeing us fail under him. We must look forward, if success is going to continue.

ktfox59 Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 Also maybe he is looking from afar at the vastly improved quality of squad now to work with, as opposed to the one over 3yrs ago, and possibly the sunderland one too
escos Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 I am starting to think the board are planning on keeping all the existing staff in place and employing someone to oversee everything. I think MON could be a good fit for that position.

Ricey Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 I want progression and someone who will work well with this squad, not someone who will tear everything apart and try playing possession football. It won't work. O'Neill will work well with this squad as it already has the togetherness, camaraderie and work ethic that he likes in a team. He also likes 3-5-2 and playing direct at times (people don't like to admit it, but we were very long-ball at times last season). He would demand the respect of the squad instantly, I'm sure of it. He also shares something with Pearson, that air about him that players find infectious. So many times it was said during O'Neill's time here that the players would run through brick walls for him. This squad did that for Pearson and I'm confident they'd do it for O'Neill. We have to accept the facts and realities of the squad and infrastructure we have in place currently. Can we really see a Hiddink, Di Matteo, Ranieri etc honestly working well within it?
Strokes Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 Even if he failed he wouldn't tarnish his reputation with me. He would fit in well with the current set up and could go out with a bang here. Come home Martin.

Frank to be Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 People talking about him like he's some vestige of a bygone era. It was only 2010 that he led villa to their 3rd successive 6th place finish, a monumental achievement at a club like that. He did ok at Sunderland, P66 W21 D20 is 1.26ppg or 48pts in a premier league season, which last season would have been enough to finish 10th. Not bad for Sunderland. Royston. Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 If he came here and did a bad job it wouldnt tarnish his hero status with me. I see MON of the 96-01 era and MON of today as completely different managers. Put another way, when he was with us he was a God and one of the best managers in the English game but since then, Celtic aside, he has aged like a kebab and I consider him not good enough for us. teblin Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 Bloody hell. People are fickle on here. Far better than some we could get and not that long since he finished top 6 with villa. Look where they went.

Sir Fynwy Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 What happened between O'Neill and Robertson? Why do they not work together any more? Robertson was reported to have decided he didn't get along with modern footballers, said they are all arrogant and difficult to deal with, he was the link between MON and the players so decided that if he hated the players he couldn't continue in his role. Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 Football dinosaur now I'm afraid. Recruitment was awful at Sunderland paying massive amounts for average British players and his Ireland record is so poor. The facts the owners have been after him for 3 years suggests they have no idea.

Edingleyfox Posted 10 July 2015 Share Posted 10 July 2015 O'Neill as Director of Football shared with his Ireland role? Lennon as head coach?.After the speculation this week we could so much worse but it all depends whether he still has the motivation.
