Manwell Pablo Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 I don't wear a red poppy and wouldn't sing the national anthem (I'm a republican and don't have any desire for an imaginary sky man to save a rich old unelected woman), as a 'born and bred' English man, can someone explain where I need to **** off back to? This what I dont get. Whether he or anyone else likes it or not McLean is actually British ( despite his decision to play for Eire he is norther Irish) so i find his right to earn a lot of money in this country or rather strange.
bovril Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 He may or may not be a cvnt but I don't get how he's a hypocrite for "choosing to earn his money here" especially as he's been working for private companies often owned by foreign businessmen.
wurmer Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 I couldn't give a toss for his politics or what he does or doesn't do - he's an irrelevance to me. I won't give him any of my valuable headspace. He's just a footballer for gods sake. The only relevance that he DOES have to me, is that he's playing against us today and I want him to have a crap performance, that's all.
danny. Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 No problem if he doesn't want to wear a poppy, that's his decision. His other behaviour is pathetic though; if he can't stand properly and respect an anthem he has issues and probably should think about plying his trade somewhere else. And Danny you do realise that most people don't literally believe the words of an anthem when singing them surely? I don't believe in God either but it would never stop me singing my countries anthem I doubt the French genuinely want to start slitting the throats of people in the countryside either when they sing theirs. Thanks for being patronising. Yes I am sure many atheists and agnostics sing songs about God and use phrases mentioning him/her. I personally, as an agnostic and someone that is against a monarchy, would not want to sing lines about God saving it's head though. My point being, as someone from England how does this no longer make me from England? On a side note, we are all humans, I couldn't care less about policital borders or the geographical location someone happens, by utter chance, to pop out of their mother's vagina, patriotism can be a hugely negative thing.
Voll Blau Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Weird how much of their time our end devoted to him today. Imagine if people actually put as much effort into singing songs about Leicester. I get trying to get under the skin of oppo players with the odd chant but going from mates who were there it seems we went all out obsessive on him. Strange.
Fox92 Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Three men basically sang 'fvck the IRA' all game and booed McLean all game. When I turned around, none of them had Poppies on. No need for those chants today. Leave all that out of football.
ScouseFox Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 yeh we kept singing the national anthem an their fans kept cheering it and it was all a bit weird
Collymore Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 yeh we kept singing the national anthem an their fans kept cheering it and it was all a bit weird I hate it when the national anthem is sang for political reasons. If you don't like him , ignore him.
Voll Blau Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 I hate it when the national anthem is sang for political reasons. If you don't like him , ignore him. I hate it when the poppy is used as a political tool, rather than the symbol of remembrance it was intended to be.
C-man Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 90% of those singing 'fvck the IRAAAAAAA' weren't old enough to remember a single active attack. Embarrassing.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 90% of those singing 'fvck the IRAAAAAAA' weren't old enough to remember a single active attack. Embarrassing. Agreed. Some little chavy kid behind me kept shouting and swearing other shit also. Was 14 max. Doubt he knows even what IRA stands for. Embarrassing really
The Doctor Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 He looks like a cheap knockoff of butthead from beavis and butthead, but people moaning about him not wearing a bit of fabric (having fully justified himself) are even uglier.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Why wasn't Danny Simpson wearing a poppy on his shirt?
Bert Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Why wasn't Danny Simpson wearing a poppy on his shirt? He changed his shirt at half time
Voll Blau Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 Why wasn't Danny Simpson wearing a poppy on his shirt? Dunno. Hope we just sing anti-IRA songs at him all game, then he'll change his mind.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 He changed his shirt at half time Fair enough, ta
Stevosevic Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 The "f**k the IRA" chants came across loud and clear on the game of the day. Sounded like a majority not a minority singing it.
Stevosevic Posted 31 October 2015 Posted 31 October 2015 And picked up by the media: West Brom winger McClean barracked with anti-IRA songs http://dailym.ai/1RFtw78
Guest MattP Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 Nothing wrong at all with our fans yesterday, appreciated by the West Brom fans as well who only had kind words for us, feel for them as they are clearly deeply embarrassed about McClean.
C-man Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 I love how singing loyalist shite is fine but bringing in a 'refugees welcome' banner would have been too political to have a place in football... Please don't interpret this as me being an IRA sympathiser. Just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy people accuse McClean of.
GaelicFox Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 Quite disappointed that there were anti Irish stuff yesterday The IRA DONT even exist anymore and James McClean has no IRA connections and has grown up when the IRA ad disbanded Most Irish people despised the IRA , like most Basques hate ETA or Columbians FARC Leaving politics aside the reason we use the poppy is to symbolise the ultimate sacrifice made by soldiers to ensure we the future generations have freedom to act and freedom of thought (something the nazi army didn't believe in) McClean is exercising that freedom and ultimately he is actually paying a massive complement to those who died !!!! he is utilising the gift they have given us the gift of freedom !!! it's that freedom that allows Him to make a choice and express it , his actions prove that those brave soldiers never died in vein. I respect his right to exercise his rights ! The irony is if it's forced on people to wear a poppy and people's rights are oppressed then really every soldier who gave his life for this counties freedom did so in vein To the idiot who kept shouting "you piky Irish c**t" behind me next time I might not have my 9yo daughter with me ! Bigotry should never be allowed , thankfully city is a wonderful club with amazing fans idiots like that don't represent my club they are embarrasing to themselves only !

Pretty much my thoughts on this, regardless of where people stand on McClean.
Voll Blau Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 Nothing wrong at all with our fans yesterday, appreciated by the West Brom fans as well who only had kind words for us, feel for them as they are clearly deeply embarrassed about McClean. If they were that embarrassed they'd be singing those songs themselves, but they're actually there to support their team so they don't. Like I say, I just find it weird more than anything else that we'd spend that much time singing about him. It's not like he's ever particularly wronged Leicester before.
Kitchandro Posted 1 November 2015 Posted 1 November 2015 Weird how much of their time our end devoted to him today. Imagine if people actually put as much effort into singing songs about Leicester. Strange. 3 quarters of the end was silent apart from singing that. What a bunch of fvcking weirdos.

There was plenty wrong with our end, why don't these people sing our other songs? They're going to support our team, not to barrack some bloke on the opposition team.
