Bettsj2 Posted 29 July 2015 Share Posted 29 July 2015 Don't be silly. What's happening is more or less the same as last summer. If the media reports at the time were correct, we tried very hard to attract a number of top players then but were repeatedly knocked back, probably because we're simply not as well known or respected as the clubs we were competing against. One year later we're still in the Premier League but our 14th place finish has probably done very little to dent that image. The suggestion that all these players would have joined us if Pearson was still here is to conveniently ignores the basic fact that, at present, we're not well known or highly regarded enough to easily attract the kind of players we want. Whether we have Pearson, Ranieri or somebody else in charge, that's the reality we're dealing with. You can't blame the owners for trying to attract top talent. They are ambitious and want us to be an established top 10 Premiership club. But we're not there yet and are probably going to get knocked back a lot of times before we hit the jackpot. To assume that all would be different if Pearson was still in charge is to indulge in the worst kind of self-flagellating retro-fantasy. This. Shaun fvcking Maloney turned us down last year. 4everfox Posted 29 July 2015 Share Posted 29 July 2015 If Southampton can convince the likes of Wanyama, Lovren and Osvaldo to join them in their second season in the Premier League then we can with this guy. There's no way that the Southampton from back then were more attractive then us now, I'm not having that.
