No it wasn't! Vardy was level when Kasper took the goal kick.

You can't be offside from a goal kick hence how he wasn't given offside despite being 10 yards off

Disappointed at myself for feeling so shit about that result. I consider myself a rational and glass half full kind of supporter but that feels like the wheels have come off to me right now. Obviously they haven't and tomorrow I might feel differently but for now I'm annoyed

I feel your pain brother. It's only because you're passionate and you care so much. Have a cup of Horlicks and a good night sleep. Then wake up tomorrow, read the paper, and see that the mighty Foxes are top of the Premier League. And all will be good in the world again..

No Horlicks in the cupboard, will Jack Daniels work?

Just watched full replay after media blackout.

Decent first half except for the penalty miss. I was admittedly worried when Mahrez stepped up and was proven right sadly. We had alot of first half possession and at half time thought we would get the job done but we did look flat in the 2nd half however that is 2 points lost no matter how we dress it. We had a couple of of decent chances (Drinky) but failed to take the advantage.

Comments about us looking tired are on the money - the current schedule plus cup replay not helping but alll clubs are in a similar boat. Good thing is we are not losing and are top so the CL is still very achievable however we do need to regroup and find that "foxes" factor we had up to Xmas.

depends what your ambition is.  i am far more annoyed about tonight than bournemouth. we weren't the better side that day from minute 1 and we didn't deserve to win. today, villa were a shambles until we gave them something to grab hold of.  even then, they weren't good enough to stop us winning and yet we allowed them to do so.

Every time. Win, draw or lose, there's always the booze!!

I wasn't impressed by the subs, but would hesitate to criticise De Laet because he did as good a job as I'd expect a right back to do on the right wing. Ulloa, on the other hand, came on when we desperately needed an outlet and singularly failed to offer one. Again. It's rare that you look at a player's performance and conclude that having someone on the pitch has actually been counter-productive. He's managed it more than once recently.

My biggest concern was our failure to address the warning signs. It was getting far too compact down the right early on. It took us until after the break to encourage Mahrez to cut inside more. And as for the penalty, well, there have been enough warning signs from previous games to prevent Riyad from being given the nod. And for Ranieri to react to our offensive players failing to provide any respite for our defence by bringing on a second right back for our most effective attacker, is as eyebrow-raising a decision as I can think of.

One of the things which has struck me over the past four or five games has been the amount of space Albrighton, among others, has been granted because of the opposition's focus on snuffing out our threat on the right, and how - in spite of this - reluctant Albrighton is to gamble on attacking the spaces in front of him. He seems happier to hold the ball up or whip it in from deep. I hope it's not conservatism at a tactical level, and we can remedy the situation by giving him a rest in favour of Gray or Schlupp. And why they don't swap over during the game is beyond me; at least try to keep the defenders guessing. Oppositions seem to have our wide threat thoroughly sussed right now.

I also thought the work rate lacked something. People have rushed to praise Drinkwater (and there's no doubt he managed to make a few things happen in the middle), but he was a bit slow off the mark in his defensive duties today. In fact, second half, I thought we were very slow to second balls. Ulloa never helps this sort of thing earlier. Okazaki seemed to cause far more of an aerial threat than he did, and on top of everything Ulloa has shocking mobility, energy levels and, worse still, the touch of an earthquake and the turning circle of a small planet.

It looks to me like Vardy needed a few more days off after his op. Mahrez and Huth also look like they need a break. Depending on our ambitions, we might need to invest. Of all the sides at the top, we are the one that has the least alternatives available to cover for tired legs.

All in all, this is where Ranieri's season will either go the way of Ipswich's back in 2000-01, or Norwich 7 or 8 years before that, or it will go the way of Taylor's. Now the momentum has slowed for the first time he has to look at where to regain it. Still, I'm sure he'll learn from what went wrong today. Four points from the last two games - I'll take that, so long as we don't kid ourselves that we've played well in the process.

Think Kante has faded a bit of late......

and will Drinky ever score?

They were there for the taking today...... Let's hope Stoke and Liverpool win tomorrow....

Im not sure we should be concerned. Yes it was a poor performance and poor penalty and we were lucky to escape with a point but for christ sake we r top and have only lost twice all season with a team costing about 25 miliion as opposed to 250 million!!

4 points from 2 away games at Spurs and villa. Point away when villa had extra 24 hour recovery time and, but for a penalty miss would have been 3 points. Also not at our best for a while now and teams that go on and do well tend to pick up points when they're struggling.

We'll come again. Chin up chaps.

Drinkwater's miss was as bad as the penalty.

I don't even know what he was attempting with that flick shot thing, should have been going in with his head.

I notice that Vardy has now 5 yellows, so does that mean he's banned for the next match?

No, amnesty kicked in January 1st, so can get up to nine now (I think) before sometime in April, when another amnesty kicks in.

This Mahrez slating by some is getting a bit much. I actually thought he started the game brightly and initially looked up for it today. I think the penalty miss knocked the wind out of his sails and dented his confidence, and maybe he struggled a bit after that. He's entitled to a dip in form and a few off games - he's not perfect and we should give him a break. On his day he's a word beater and a match winner but it's unrealistic to expect this week in week out. Cut him some slack FFS. He'll bounce back - I've no doubt...

Fully agree. It was a very odd decision to give him the penalty. His last spot kick was dreadful and cost us two points, if he'd have scored it might have given him a little boost, but the same applied to Vardy who has been fairly reliable from twelve yards, and needs a goal soon if we wish to regain the momentum. On the other hand, it was clear - after Bournemouth - that Mahrez (who also missed one in the Cup, of course, so is far from a sure-fire thing from the spot) was at risk of being severely dispirited by missing. I think the risks, and probability of it going wrong, outweighed the potential benefits.

He may well need a rest now. Whether Ranieri dresses it up as a punishment for a couple of sub-par displays, or whether it's an 'arm-round-the-shoulder-hey-lad-take-a-breather' moment, I don't care. That said, he's obviously a great player, and he has it within him - even when he's in the midst of a miserable run - to pull off something unspeakably brilliant. So I'd understand us sticking with him in the side, but only if we think of something more imaginative than allowing him to while away the game isolated on the right, or chasing shadows in the support-man role.

10 and if he makes it it'll be a two game ban.

Someone asked me, Solthewallbamba and Brockmeister if we are 'real' City fans in the pub tonight.

We've made it

I heard a massive "FUCK OFF ALBRIGHTON!" early on in the game, presume (Hope!) it was a Villa fan! lol

One of the best bits of entertainment today on my stream which luckily had no commentary - hearing all those scruffy Villa fans shouting abuse at City players (Albrighton in particular) and urging their own team forward in some unmistakingly clear terms. lol

Missing the penalty was key changed the whole psychology of the game. The home crowd seemed to wake up and their players were lifted. We started to look negative and De Laet coming on added to it although he did OK.

Mahrez Kante and Albrighton have looked tired for the last 3 to 4 games and we probably need to freshen up - Gray looked Ok when he came on and I thought he could have come on earlier. Vardy and Drinkwater missed chances but had good games overall.Remember last year we would probably have folded and lost the game although it does feel like a defeat which is a measure of current expectations.

We will need to step things up with Stoke and Liverpool coming soon but with a smallish  squad could do with a couple more hopefully Amartey and another striker to bring fresh energy but most of all we need to be positive still top and all to play for.

All in all, very much 2 points dropped. It was never going to be a 0-3 or 0-4 game, but even so at 1-0 with the chance to go 2-0, its 2 bad dropped points.

I thought the first half was quite good. We are a counter attack team but did a good job of controlling the ball and the tempo of the game, and for the most part we were playing a lot higher up the pitch and supporting the front two, who i though were very good on the night.

We got the goal from a bit of quick thinking from Schmeichel and Vardy, good anticipation from Okazaki to poach the rebound, and then had the stonewall penalty which would have made it 2-0 and game over at that point, with them having wasted the chance from the Huth backpass.

Instead though, the 2nd half was atrocious.

I know we are a counter attack team, and thats fine, but we are starting to over egg the pudding. Gradually throughout the 2nd half we were retreating deeper into our half leaving our forward players isolated, and the only outlet being a long ball forward. It was at that point we started losing the ability to control the pace of the game.

Yes, possession isnt everything, but there are times where you HAVE to be able to play short passes, keep the ball, and build through the lines of the team. Or else itll keep coming back again and again. The team HAS to play higher up the pitch and win the ball back in areas where we can move forwards, because currently we are asking for trouble.

As we dropped off, we started letting Ayew have more of the ball and he showed quality on it, while Kozak and Gestede after coming on started posing more of a threat. I dont think anyone could deny their equaliser was merited and you could argue Huth was lucky not to give away a penalty on Kozak.

The substitutions were strange too, Okazaki coming off early for De Laet where a ready made wide man was on the bench in Gray, arguably we could have made a straight swap for Mahrez there and then, whilst Ulloa doesnt pose enough threat or possess the ability to stretch the back 4.

All in all, a poor way to drop 2 points in a game where we really needed all 3.

Really bad performance I felt, another shocking penalty and from there on in we looked like we were begging for Villa to get something from the game. I don't like the way we've moved from a team that concedes a lot of possession and then strikes with numbers, energy and quality on the break, to one that concedes a lot of possession and then hoofs aimlessly. Yes we created chances, but today we played against the worst side in the league by a distance and still looked poor, a half-decent side would have put us away today. We couldn't retain the ball, we barely jumped for headers, some of our finishing/final balls were so poor and from what I could see, Huth's challenge was stupid and a penalty. Vardy and Mahrez have been amazing but they really weren't on it today.

Don't want to sound too much like a negative fan because we are doing beyond my wildest dreams, top of the league in January is indescribable, but on today's game alone it was the worst I've witnessed since we came up. Ref was abysmal too.

Knew this would be a dangerous fixture. Villa probably shaded it to be fair. Mahrez should not have taken the pen. Subs were odd. Everyone had an off day. Hangover from Wednesday. Should have battered them but seemed well off our normal game.

Think Stole will do Arsenal tomorrow.l, but we need to step the fook up.

Really weird to walk out of the ground having gone top of the Premier League, yet so annoyed that I didn't even think about stopping to clap the players. What a spoilt bastard.

I still think the aim is 3rd/4th though.

Just can't help feeling that we'd be right back on it with another top quality striker to share the workload. Surely it must be on the list if we've got two players for every other position and Kram is still locked in the basement.
