Sunbury Fox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Heskey went. Collymore went.. Cottee...we are still here. True but Heskey leaving was the first step towards our eventual descent to League One. O'Neill realised then that he would never be able to take the club further and left himself a few months later. The rest is history. Of course, we had not just won the league then and we didn't have wealthy owners. If Jamie heads off - and it is still if - the key thing will be to get an excellent replacement quickly, so the other top players can see we still mean business and want to stay. If we go out and sign both Slimani and Musa we'll arguably have a stronger team even without Jamie.
Mezeker Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 My fear is this starts the dominos. I know Mahrez wants to stay, but if Vardy goes, Kante goes, what would go through his mind then. I keep saying we need to get a great player in soon just to signal intent and steady the boat.
nettle Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I can remember when Heskey went to Liverpool let's hope vardy's replacement is better than his!
indierich06 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I'll be desperately, desperately sad if this happens... it feels entirely different than if Kante or Mahrez were to leave. I'd still be gutted if either of them went, but I'd accept it. It just felt like Vardy had so much more of a connection with this club and this city, given the journey both club and player have been through together... was that not real? He was like an adopted son of Leicester. For me, Jamie Vardy is the heart and soul of this team. He typifies everything good about us, the qualities that have led us to defy the odds and claim the Premier League title. At times it felt like he was driving us forward through sheer force of will. Kante and Mahrez are both phenomenal, and they will be extremely difficult to replace... but Vardy? It honestly feels like we'd be losing everything that makes this team what it is. For everyone saying "if he goes, he goes, we have to move on" - honestly, do you really feel this way? How can it be as simple as that? Yes, he is only one man, but he's one man who has meant so much to every single fan of this team. For me it would be like losing a limb. Maybe Musa, or Slimani, or someone else will come in and replace him, maybe they'll score 15 or 20 goals a season. But will it feel the same? Can it, really? I don't think so. We might have a new hero, but we'll never have another Jamie Vardy.People might accuse me of being melodramatic, or overly sentimental. But this is football. Football is drama and sentiment, football is heroes and villains, football is legends and stories that are told for time immemorial. Without any of that, football is nothing. I understand that this career is a short one, and when you've got a family to provide for, and an uncertain future to prepare for, you have to make decisions that you believe are the right ones for you, your family and your future. But it doesn't make it any easier to accept for us, the fans, the ones with romance in our hearts.Desperately, desperately sad.
ARM1968 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 It's not greed it's reality. 99% of people would take that money. Loyalty is mostly gone in football now. If the team spirit here is what we've heard then he might stay with his 'brothers'. I'm not going to slag him off for a deal taking him to 33 or 34 on that sort of money. Better England prospects too. Arsenal will challenge for more than us in reality. London is a better place to be than Leicester if you're loaded. No brainer.
SecretPro Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 **** this, we all know he's going, otherwise he'd just come out and say he wasn't. Time to start shopping, and seriously.
FoxinNotts Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I can remember when Heskey went to Liverpool let's hope vardy's replacement is better this his! This.
Bazly Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 I can't imagine why people think any professional player owes an employer loyalty. OK football is an emotion led business but its still and entertainments business at the end of the day. When Leicester played Swansea without Vardy I was surprised when the cameras cut to Vardy as each Leicester goal went in and hardly a reaction. The crowd went wild, armchair fans went wild while Vardy didn't seem fussed in his box position. Players come and players go and if player move onto bigger clubs its usually for more money than we paid for them. If Vardy goes for £29mn that's a big profit over the £1mn transfer fee and £5mn in wages. That's great business.
HankMarvin Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Shit end to the Vardy Hollywood blockbuster this. If he leaves, will hire a Jap and say his been racist again
FoxesDeb Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Heskey went. Collymore went.. Cottee...we are still here. Vardy is still here too... All this speculation does us no good, until anything is signed lets try not to worry. I will be as disappointed as the next person if he goes, after the dream that has been this year I dared to dream about next year, and wanted more than anything the chance to build on our success and hopefully enjoy the CL with our team intact. Until anything changes I will keep dreaming
ARM1968 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 indierich06's - life is that simple, always has been. What can you do.

His attitude and general swagger represented us as a progressive club perfectly. Mahrez and Kante have more natural ability but JV typifies our never say die mentality.
Bazly Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Lets not also forget, Leicester City in the 2 games Jamie Vardy was side-lined in last season scored 5 times. Thankfully, its a team game.
HankMarvin Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Croatia hit 10 and no sign of Kramaric thank fck for that
49er Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Still think this might work out well for us. I'd much rather he stayed but if he goes then who's to say there isn't an absolute pearler of a signing waiting in the wings? It's worth remembering that JV was a very, very rough diamond when he joined, our coaching staff did an amazing job on him and can do it again. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk So we are signing Elkie Brookes to replace him?!
whitlock Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Just doesn't seem to add up. Arsenal just don't spend money on players, they've already bought that centre mid and 20-30£ million on a 29 year old just doesn't fit what Wenger does. Seems to be true just seems quite odd. Stay and be a king at Leicester or just become a mediocre nobody at Arsenal. Just a shame being mediocre is paid more.
weller54 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Heskey went. Collymore went.. Cottee...we are still here. Via league one!
Guest bennytwohats Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 Anyone who seriously idolised this guy needs their heads checked. He racially abused a guy last summer and has shown on more than one occasion that he is a bit of a dick. He's been a phenomenal player for us and nothing can change that. But those that are getting in a twist over him being self-serving are being incredibly naive. We will survive. I would love him to stay. If he goes then he goes having played a key part in giving us something I never thought we would experience, he doesn't owe us anything after that.

EastAnglianFox Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 **** this, we all know he's going, otherwise he'd just come out and say he wasn't. Time to start shopping, and seriously. Yeah, I know real life doesn't revolve around twitter and social media but with Mrs Vardy tweeting daily you would think he fully knows that fans/media maybe need some clarification on the situation and if their was nothing in it then he or the club may have said something by now.
weller54 Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 So we are signing Elkie Brookes to replace him?! I'll toast a glass of lilac wine to that!
ronnup Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 The interesting thing is who replaces him. Musa is clearly there for that reason and looks likely. He's probably as good, I just don't see Vardy doing it again. There'll no doubt be others in the pipe line.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 June 2016 Posted 4 June 2016 This reminds me of when Judas left. Of course I would have understood that he left us to manage the club he spent his best playing year with, but it was the fact that he categorically denied before it happened. I'm feeling pretty much the same about this.
