Inler on his way

Recommended Posts

I'd take the Telegraph article with a pinch of salt, quite a guessing game going on there, putting together odd pieces here and there to create something of a coherent story.

But of course, it's sad to see him not being part of the first team.

I still think he's a quality player and can't believe he would decline as much as it has appeared. Given time, I believe he would have adapted but when you have Kante, Drinkwater and King all at the top of their game, he didn't have a chance to settle. When he played for Napoli, he was immense.

Think tbf it just shows how far we have come in such a short time, he should have been able to get in the side but it didn't work out, we aim to be a top 6 side and would he get into any top 6/8 team No, look down the league, look were we got him from in Italy and the credentials and he looks the sort of player to do a job for a Hull,Burnley, WBA,Norwich,Bournemouth sort of team. There will be teams in the top 6 who have similar players who cost considerably more and on a lot more also nowhere near a match day squad. Lets put a positive on it and think of him as an upgrade on GTF and probably a cheaper option considering while here GTF had access to the training ground canteen. Certainly fitted in with the squad and didn't kick off which of course he shouldn't do with the wage he is on but plenty of other players do at other clubs.

I was arguing with someone on here when he signed that he was on a very quick decline at Napoli and he would struggle here. I mean peak Inler (who was a hell of a player) gets a lot more game time than 32 year old Inler. I don't blame the club for signing him after the Cambiasso signing worked out so well.

I wish Gokan well, seems a nice enough guy but just didn't cut it with us, he's never really challenged for a place in the side, just not quick enough on his feet for our style of play. Must admit I thought we'd made a great signing at the time and after a while I was thinking he would be useful for cup matches, with such an intensive season coming up, but as pointed out above, he's so far down the pecking order that the 50k a week is money that could be better spent elsewhere on a younger fitter player.

Inler's professionalism has been a credit to him.  There've been enough sulker's in dressing rooms even when they're getting top money yet Inler's continued to set such standards as he could - as squad member and local personality - despite all the disappointment of his playing time here.

He probably came here a year or two late. Even our fans didn't generally guess the potential we had or the level of football we'd be playing over the last year. Inler just couldn't make a case for selection even though a few on here did try to fly a flag for him.

I don't think it was anything to do with a lack of effort or Leicester's being wrong to sign him. The standards set by the first choice team were just phenomenal and there's every sign of wanting to maintain that.

Inler's just a victim of circumstances but I don't suppose he, his family or his bank manager will be complaining. Wherever he eventually goes I wish him well. For whatever reason, he never quite adjusted to Premiership football and seemed much more attuned to the style of the generally sunnier continental countries where they offer a bit more time and space.

Splendid post.

Strange one with Inler. I thought he'd get more chances than he did. He wasn't even on the bench, even when there seemed to be a clear opportunity for him to be there, last season. I genuinely thought he could have featured yesterday against Celtic. We looked short in midfield. He's clearly going now, so that's that. Shame, something's obviously gone down, but it would seem that looking in from the outside, he comes over very professional. Overall he was average.

Wish him well.  Never really had the chance to bed in and show what he's capable of but that's just a testament to how incredible Drinkwater and Kante were last year. Never really seemed to kick up a fuss and from social media clearly looked like he bought into the team ethos. Hopefully he has a good couple of years still left in him somewhere.

Did we sell Benni and I didn't even notice?

I think Fiorentina are holding him hostage until they get their loan fee back.

Drinkwater is twice the player he was a few years ago, thanks to training alongside and competing against Cambiasso, Kante and Inler on a daily basis.

50k a week seems a lot when you look at how little game time he had, but I have no doubt that he was pushing Drinky hard, and that in itself is money well spent.

It never ceases to amaze me re. the psychology of the football fan. Why one player should essentially be a failure at a football club, but be liked and 'understood' by fans, whereas others will have joined a club, got paid a kings ransom, played very little football and be despised for it.

How a player is treated when things don't go well essentially comes down to how they handle it. If the player isn't getting game time and is kicking up a stink then they are going to be despised, as you put it, by the fans.

When someone has had their head down and it just hasn't worked out I don't see why there should be any hard feelings.

Benny followed me back on Twitter and DM'd * me today to say he'd had an operation on his back in May. Due back at the training ground 4th August.

*Or at least the person running his Twitter account sent me a message to that effect.

He could still do a job, a conclusion I reach based upon one decent performance against West Ham in the League Cup!

THANK YOU for the info. I've been so worried about him.

When I saw him earlier in the season, I felt the games passed him by... However a bit later in the season when he came off the bench I felt he had something to give, and indeed was excellent defensively and his experience showed in defending corners etc

He was constantly Tweeting pics of being involved with the matchday squad & I felt he was very professional

Good luck to him, it's a shame we didn't see more of him but what Drinkwater & Kante did was as unprecedented as our title win itself

If he's to go and who could blame him, good luck and hope you do well

Thanks Gokan

Couldn't agree more with every word. It hasn't really worked out for him but he could've very easily had it go sour for him here and there's not been a word about him playing up at all.

It must've been quite a demoralising year for him in a way but amazing in another that he picked up a winners medal. It can't be easy taking what seemed a step down and then failing to get in that side, and then going from national team captain to not even being in the squad for the Euros.

I wish him well wherever he goes. Just doesn't particularly suit us. No more to it than that.
