Poor example especially when he negotiated a clause which meant the player left for less than his market value.

I don't think that's fair at all. His market value when he signed was £5.6 million (what we paid for him).

Putting a clause in at £20 million was perfectly reasonable if that's what it took to get him to sign. This is in stark contrast to the Vardy one which was totally indefensible.

This would not be too catastrophic. Slight overreation over Walsh's talents in all honesty. We have a solid scouting across the world, with the statistical geeks and analysis monkeys doing more wonders than visual. It felt like Walsh's duties were hindered when Ranieri came in, i don't know it just seemed like Walsh's title as 'assistant manager' was only in pre-contract writing.

I don't like the constant phrase of "is this a Walsh signing," because Steve Walsh isn't the be all end all of our scouting and recruiting procedure. He will be replaced, it's just part of the process. If he leaves then I imagine Everton's new owner will be throwing a lot of money at us and Walsh because all they see is "Leicester won the league!, Walsh discovered Mahrez!" without taking in to account the full Leicester City picture, so he can go if he really does want to.

He's wanted here and is very important, I think consistency is always the key in progressing; he signed a new contract recently I can only envision him leaving for a lot of money, but I wouldn't be too worried if he left; his job really can be replaced.

I think you've underestimate Walsh. When he left for Hull, how many top ssignings did we make?

Walsh has been successful wherever he's been, and not just here. He was the one that brought top names to Chelsea in the Ranieri days.

Our scouting network is so good because Walsh has set it up. If he goes, then I'd imagine he'll take scouts with him, thus ripping our scouting network apart.

If this happens, then I would seriously consider looking at Southampton's scouting nnetwork. As I feel they ha e also been very successful in finding players.

I thought he was also Assistant Manager.

And do you know what his job entails?

Is it following the manager everywhere in case he is unable to do his job?

Walsh is so valuable and the club know it - hence when Raneiri signed for us he was told he had to keep him.

He signed his contract when we signed him for £6 million, so at the time his market value was £6 million. I'm sure Rudkin didn't insist on putting in a release clause that would be all down to negotiation. Btw this release clause is just speculation anyway.

Well either there was a clause (which as I've said elsewhere is not something you can blame Rudkin for in this instance) or whoever is in charge of negotiating a fee did a very poor job in only getting £32 million for Kante in this market.

Well if the release clause was £20 million as some have claimed, getting £32 million is pretty good business.

So if it has only just got to the approach stage why did Walsh not travel to Austria?

He might have been scouting players elsewhere

Expect him to be unveiled holding an Everton scarf anytime soon then.

Didn't Dorset and sky say it was bs about ng and a transfer being agreed... Day later it was all done, maybe we're leaking info about the approach being rejected to make it look yet again like we did everything we could to keep him

Surely by rejecting we're about to force Walsh to resign anyway. Surely we say yes you can speak to them but here is a fantastic offer for you and our grand plan for you stay at the club - which is heading for great things.

And then remind Walsh that Everton are looking elsewhere so dont see you as their only option - make the man feel loved!

Right out you were positing a scenario where there wasn't a release clause.

Youre right though if that was the clause then £32 million is fine - nobody seems to understand what this clause was though because if it was simply a case of a bidding war starting above £20 million for all clubs, in effect it's the same as any normal transfer and £32 million is not a particularly good return for the club. If it was a £20 million clause CL clubs then we've done well to get Kante to join Chelsea rather than one of those clubs.

Either way there's nothing which suggests any level of skilled negotiation with another club - if the "highest bidder" clause was true then we have that Chinese club to thank for the fee being over £30m rather than anybody at Leicester. If the second one is true, it's actually Kante who's done us a favour by not going to a CL club.

My point is is that it's all speculation so dishing out blame is stupid.

If Walsh wants to be a director of football, give it him here and let Rudkin be head of youth development again.

People have said Rudkin could replace Walsh but I've never seen any great evidence.

Reading comments on here, it doesn't sound as if Rudkin's particularly popular - not that popularity is necessarily a reflection of a man's ability to do his job - and, administratively, he must have something because our owners seem to have plenty of faith in him.

But Rudkin's main involvement at Leicester has been in charge of the Academy and, while we've certainly had our successes, I wouldn't say there's that much evidence of our recruitment and development being that brilliant, given our facilities and position in Midlands football .

Yes, there have been exceptions. Andy King is the obvious one, Schlupp has been a plus, Gradel was promising in a title winning under 18 team for all that he was inconsistent but, otherwise, there's been the odd flicker of light but  hardly a club being lit up with emerging talent like  Southampton.

With all the talent we've had to choose from I'm frankly surprised we haven't produced at least half a dozen more Premiership standard footballers in the last decade and I wouldn't say we've been particularly special in the FA Youth Cup overall either.

None of that suggests Rudkin could replace Walsh although I wouldn't say picking out potential Premiership talent from a world of young to middle-20s footballers was particularly difficult to be honest.

You'd have a check list of basic abilities, you'd compile the statistics to back that check list, you'd research a multitude of things like attitude, reliability, temperament under pressure  and responsibility within a team environment, then do your personal checks and find out if there was anything sets the player apart, anything he does better than others and that opponents found hard to combat. Like pace, heading or shooting accuracty, timing in the tackle.

Add all that to a little of your own instinct for someone who screams "quality" and the job's a good 'un.

I'm not sure we've always done sufficient homework or development given the number of players who fall sadly by the wayside compared  with the very few who actually break through even to Championship level.

I can picture Walsh walking into Top's office...."Boss i want to leave"....Top spins around in his black chair gently stroking a stray cat and then pushes the button revealing a shark pool 'neath the feet of our esteemed scout.
